Robert8 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) In the original show scooby and shaggy often wore disguises to hide from the monsters. So there is potential for clothing variation at least for shaggy. So wave two could consist of some variations and a different distribution of figures. Beyond that I would they would have to include some of the other characters that appeared through the years. Good call. In "The Headless Horseman of Halloween" they were all disguised for a Halloween party Plus there was never really a ghost or monster or alien or whatever just someone in costume getting trapped in the end.......so generic ghost is perfect for a regular minifig to pretend to be a ghost right.....? I could be wrong, but I think this Dracula minifigure wasn't a guy in disguise, but an actual monster "Watch the pretty coin of gold And you will do as you are told In Wave 2 we will get A Lego Scooby-Doo circus set!" Loved it! Edited January 28, 2015 by Robert8 Quote
8BrickMario Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 From what I've heard, the Horseman is the only monster in this theme who is a human and designed to be "unmasked". The Vampire's white head and the Zombie's baldness rule out them being humans, and the Mummy should be bald too. I don't recall if the Lighthouse Keeper was a human, but he could have a double-sided head if his hair or beard are wild enough. Seems like this theme chose more of the real monsters and fewer of the disguised criminals. Quote

Ultimately just because Lego didn't put in a secondary head for some of them doesn't make them real monsters by default. Plus it would make the included clues pointless if each monster were real. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the monsters had alternative faces that are actual human faces peaking out of a mask. It would make the most sense. At least with the Vampire they could do that--or they could include extra heads (Which they did for Batman in the Sinestro set) but I don't think that's a likely. I feel like there should be something to show they're human--since the whole thing about Scooby Doo is finding out that the monsters are not actually monsters (well except for the few times they are actually monsters). lightningtiger Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 In the original series there were no real monsters......just crooks trying to put one over everyone else except those meddling kids and a dog. More recently SD has been dealing with real-ish monsters......I dislike those episodes, I want that I'll watch Harry Potter instead. Quote
gedren_y Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo had actual monsters, and Shaggy wore red. There are so many ways Lego could go with this theme, I am pleased that they are beginning with sets reminiscent of the original show. Hopefully the upcoming show will live up to the legacy. Quote

(Gaggle of Galloping Ghosts) and all other vampires wouldn't be unless they were in any Scrappy series with no gang. Quote
Faefrost Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I don't mind the mini figures in their classic Iconic outfits, I'm more interested in the Villains and the Locations, because the SD gang go all over, here are some of the places and villains: Okay, now that is an interesting picture. It is fascinating how many of those old classic Sd villains we can do with already existing parts and molds. the ghost diver and ghost spaceman are particularly easy. Just stick one of those glowing MF skulls in a CMF hard hat diver or an Atlantis fig. They have a witch doctor mask from CMF's. They have gypsy hair mold. put the new prospector beard on a pirate and you have the Pirate Ghost. Quote

I hope this theme gets more waves/sets, since I would love to get some of those characters in brick form. The Ghost Diver would be my favorite for sure--especially since I could see him being entirely cast in glow-in-the-dark colors; which would be amazing. I am a bit surprised that we did not get the Creeper though (Bottom left corner on the picture). He seemed like such a memorable iconic Scooby Doo monster; heck he's the only monster I actually know by name and I've not watched Scooby Doo in years. Quote
Darth Punk Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I'm hoping for the ghost diver and the space kook. Everything else would be a nice bonus. Quote
AFOLguy1970 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I'm hoping for the ghost diver and the space kook. Everything else would be a nice bonus. If a full glowing Captain Cutler were made, I would nominate if for minifig of the year. Space Kook is entirely possible. The helmet could be done the same way they did Buzz Lightyear. If his "ship" was to be included, kids would probably really enjoy building it. Scooby Doo really is the perfect theme to me. It appeals to people of all ages for different reasons. People like me will draw on nostalgia and the classic look. It will make our town setups quirky and more interesting. Kids will enjoy the play features and the colorful variety of parts offered here. So far, between the Mystery Machine and the Mystery Mansion, I think the designers have nailed the essence of Scooby Doo. Quote
8BrickMario Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) I feel that way too. It captures the spirit, look, and creativity of the classic show, and it gives us more LEGO monster minifigures! Here's a great closeup of the evil Count: He looks fantastic, doesn't he? His face reminds me of the classic Studios vampire. Edited January 28, 2015 by 8BrickMario Quote

Here's a great closeup of the evil Count: He looks fantastic, doesn't he? His face reminds me of the classic Studios vampire. He does have the Studios Vampire vibe. Unlike the other two more recent vampires who had a more "kid friendly" face. This vampire also has a similar cape design. Personally I love collecting Lego vampires, so I'm really excited for this figure. Although I doubt he'd be able to beat the Studios vampire in a fight for the vampire kingship! No one beats the original Vamp! Quote
Ultron Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 He does look really good. A bit plain perhaps but very accurate to the character design which is all you can hope for! Quote
8BrickMario Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) I like the vampire's cape a lot. The collar looks good, and the red color inside is nice and striking. His face is nice and creepy with the red mouth, yellow eyes and cheekbones. Looking at the collar of the cape, it looks like it's a separate piece, rather than the double-fold style of the CMF and MF Vampires. I wonder what his coffin will look like. Hopefully it won't be identical to the Monster Fighters one. And I expect the Mummy's sarcophagus to be different (in color, at least) from the gold/blue Pharaoh's Quest ones. I hope the Black Knight has nothing else on his head except those eyes. That head could be really useful for hooded creatures. Edited January 28, 2015 by 8BrickMario Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Both the Gypsy and vampire are a guy named Big Bob Oakley. Quote

Ultron Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 I'd love to get the creepy cat people from Scooby-Doo Zombie Island. Love that movie. Also the Phantom Virus would be sweet! Quote

The Jersey Brick Guy Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Talk about a throwback to my childhood with all those Scooby Doo villains. Quote
8BrickMario Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 I hope the Creeper and Captain Cutler are in our future. The only problem is that LEGO would need to develop a new lens (shaped like a grate) for Cutler's helmet. It would be great in Spring Green, but perhaps they could make it glow, too. Perhaps the Ghost Clown could happen. Quote

Perhaps the Ghost Clown could happen. I'm surprised we didn't get those three as the molds needed already exist. We have a diving helmet for Cutler, it just needs to be recolored. We have a clown hat for the Ghost Clown. And the Creeper requires no special molds. Redbeard would have been easy to do as we have the prospectors beard and pirate hat. The Gorilla and the green ghosts could have been done very easily too with existing pieces. On a side note I suddenly want the wax phantom as a bigfig. Quote
