Robert8 Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Thanks por the pics! The Headless Horseman looks..... well.... not as spooky as I was expecting I hope we'll get a darker version in a CMF series Quote
Ultron Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 I must say I'm quite disappointed in the lighthouse. I really wanted Captain Cutler. The lake monster or whatever looks to be just a recolor of the monster fighter one. I love the little boat though. Thanks por the pics! The Headless Horseman looks..... well.... not as spooky as I was expecting I hope we'll get a darker version in a CMF series He's really not that spooky to begin with. Quote
K-Nut Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Plane looks like a pass to me, but I'll probably pick up the lighthouse. It's not the best set, no, but with some mods I bet it could look pretty cool. Quote
8BrickMario Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 (edited) Interesting. Yeah, the Horseman is a bit too bright, but it's accurate. The Lighthouse Keeper reuses Balin's beard to an interesting (though perhaps not terrific) effect. That Swamp Monster looks good in Dark Green, but the lavender looks odd. The sets themselves look good. They look suitably cartoony, with the heroes' things being bright and simple, and the villains' stuff being darker. Edited February 1, 2015 by 8BrickMario Quote
strangely Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Awesome sets. The builds are pretty terrific and I actually love the way the vehicles are colored. I am wondering what monsters the swamp monster and Lightouse keeper are based off of. Quote
TheLazyChicken Posted February 1, 2015 Author Posted February 1, 2015 These sets aren't that bad. The lighthouse is pretty good though! Quote
Legoman123 Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Both look very interesting but I think I'll give the Headless Horseman set a miss. Quote
Robert8 Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 (edited) He's really not that spooky to begin with. Well... you are right. But the biplane wasn't lime green and blue in the episode, it was gray. I was hoping for a slightly recolor of the Headless Horseman to make him look more menacing. Peasantseverywhere Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 These sets look freaking fantastic !!!!!!!! Quote
Pulp Detective Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 (edited) The lighthouse doesn't disappoint!!!The skull rock is a nice touch and that swamp creature is looking surprisingly good. The Headless Horseman set is a must buy!!! Even thought I wish the hourse had those scary looking eyes,it would also make the hourse unique and exclusive to the set. The Headless Horseman looks..... well.... not as spooky as I was expecting I'm sure the Ringwraith horse from the LOTR line might fit him well, you know to make him look like Tim Burton's Headless Hourseman from Sleepy Hollow. kelceycoe Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Finally! Awesome sets. You could tell you were looking at the Headless Horseman in the first leaked photo of the Mystery Machine since the horse could be seen in the corner and it was on the same color of pedestal as the Mystery Machine. Isn't it strange how the design concept and many of the theme's colors matches the Scooby line from COBI? Quote
strangely Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 I just noticed the printed goggles on Scooby, I really like this detail. I was initially a bit disappointed that Scooby would only have one point of articulation unlike the Cobi version which had five. Honestly though I think the Lego version is far superior now. The head is perfect and the variations of the printing are pretty awesome (I'm glad they took the Spongebob approach to the mold rather than sculpting the expression on as most other brands do). And the two molds for Scooby really works well (The Cobi version couldn't sit properly). I'm hoping eventually there's a standing version (On two legs) as Scooby often does that. I really think there will be more waves. The monster selection oddly seems to give us only a few of the iconic monsters as if they're saving some for the future. I am wondering if Shaggy is different in the lighthouse set, his torso seems to have some orange on the front, though I might just be seeing things. Quote
Dorayaki Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 (edited) I know it's somewhat related to the formula and problems of the original show, but in the view of LEGO's commercial strategy, I think it's not good to see all sets coming with Shaggy but other human members weirdly become exclusive or rare, something usually displease FOLs. It's interesting to see some variations of locations and monsters. A Hobbit beard is reused and a pumpking head finally comes (but not sure if it minuses a place for CMF series). It's the third time for us to see such kind of modern lighthouse, so hope that the playability is different. Edited February 1, 2015 by Dorayaki Quote
kelceycoe Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 The Lighthouse also has a sign. Finding out what that says could be a "clue" to finding out the inspiration for these sets. Obviously this isn't fully based on "A Clue for Scooby Doo" since a swamp monster appears. It also doesn't appear that these sets are based on SDWAY entirely since it's already suggested the Headless Horseman set is based on a later Headless Horseman episode from another series. Quote
CM4Sci Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Those look cool! Plane is smaller than I expected, but it's a $20 set. I love how that entire part of the lighthouse ground flips up! Awesome! Quote
Benny benny BENNY Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 so I'll get the mansion, the van & now the plane set the kids went mad for the first two sets. Ill need a couple of scobbys and shaggys so they can both play as them plus the plane scooby looks like its a different print. The rest of the villains I can pick up on brink link Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Why has Scooby got a bone in the back of that speed boat.......everyone knows he prefers Scooby Snacks ? Serious Lego is trying to make me spend my money again right ? The plane is cool, even though it's in flower power colours ! Quote
Captain Nemo Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 I don't find either of these to be amazing--neither gave me any emotion reaction upon seeing them (as the last ones had me practically jumping up and down, these were far more...boring). And in comparison to the other two perfect sets we've already seen, I find these are a bit lacking. The Headless Horseman is indeed accurate, but he's just not scary looking, and that white horse isn't helping either. Considering that we get two identical pumpkin helmets (which are the most distinctive part by for the character by far), I think I may skip that set and just make my own Headless Horseman. The dock set seems a bit flat to me--there's just a lot of, just flat, everywhere. Each level just has a splash of flat, where it seems like something should be--or at least for some of hte rocks to come up higher for a more realistic look. Neither of the two monsters seem interesting to me (especially since we already got a Lagoon monster before). However if the set came with a glow-in-the-dark Captain Cutler I'd buy it in a heartbeat (I think if we ask for it enough it'll happen, that's how this works right?) Quote
SMC Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 I feel the same way wanted to like the plane set but does seem a bit boring, an excusive horse or better plan would have got me. Quote
8BrickMario Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 I just wish the Horseman had a Dark Blue suit. It would make him look more imposing, and it wouldn't sacrifice too much in terms of accuracy. And the lavender hands and belly on the swamp monster both perplex and bother me. It just doesn't look right. What bothers me about the Mystery Plane set is that it looks worth $15 at most. The set's mostly basic plates, and doesn't look like it has enough parts (or licensing fees) to justify a $20 set. I'm still on the fence about the Lighthouse Keeper. I'll need to see his face to be sure what I think about him. Quote
Robert8 Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 (edited) I was thinking to buy the Mystery Machine set and the Headless Horseman set, but after seeing this pictures I think I'm going to get just the Mystery Mansion instead The Headless Horseman looks like a preliminary set. The colors are just not matching. They even gave him a regular horse, but the horse had red eyes in the show. Edited February 1, 2015 by Robert8 Quote
AFOLguy1970 Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 The lighthouse and plane are not bad. I will probably buy them because I really am a fan of Scooby and the different variations of Scooby interests me. I do however find the mansion and the MM to be the best two sets so far in appearance. It is hard to tell what the primary colors of the lighthouse are. The "swamp" creature does look more like a deep sea creature, especially since it is holding a trident. The presentation is not bad, but perhaps I was hoping for a bit more on the lighthouse itself. Still, I will probably buy all the sets. Quote
8BrickMario Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 The lighthouse is dark red, white, and a lot of grey pieces. I hope the small Mummy Museum Mystery set looks good enough. I can't see the Scooby-Doo mummy being a very interesting-looking minifigure, though, especially compared the the CMF and MF mummies. Quote
strangely Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Neither of the two monsters seem interesting to me (especially since we already got a Lagoon monster before). However if the set came with a glow-in-the-dark Captain Cutler I'd buy it in a heartbeat (I think if we ask for it enough it'll happen, that's how this works right?) That's my biggest reservation about the lighthouse. I'm a little perplexed about these two monsters as I can't seem to find any existing monster that they're based on. It seems a little strange they'd make up their own monsters or pick two that are so obscure that nobodies ever heard of them. Perhaps these two are from the new show or even the Lego special that's set to air later this year, that might explain it. Otherwise I find the lighthouse to be a great looking build. I wish the top were a bit bigger, but that's easy enough to fix. The Headless Horseman looks like a preliminary set. The colors are just not matching. They even gave him a regular horse, but the horse had red eyes in the show. I agree to some degree. The villain and his horse seem oddly bright in comparison to most of the other monsters. And I can't help but think they should have gone with the CMF king cape instead of the generic one included. I love the plane but admittedly I think the set looks a bit bare, almost like it's meant to be part of a larger set rather than something on it's own. Quote
gedren_y Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 I remember the swamp monster. He is color correct. It's a long shot, but I wonder if the mummy set gives us a bandage wrapped Scooby. He gets wrapped up by accident in at least one of the mummy episodes, but I don't think it was in the first series. As for the headless horseman, there are existing prints that would make a scarier figure. And the Eye of Sauron head will give you the fiery eyes. The character is correct, though, and I am happy that Lego is trying to capture the nostalgia of the older fans. Given that there is a TV show in production and a new movie in development, I think we could see several waves in the foreseeable future. Quote
