lightningtiger Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 (edited) DW?? But I don't buy it...why would they want to replace Chima with a SD line??I mean what the heck??Even thought I would mind if Lego replaced it with another non-licensed theme but SD??No just no...Chima is way better. Yes, 13 doctors.......blue police call box...... Now Chima is being finished next year I have told by secret sources. Edited November 20, 2014 by lightningtiger Quote
PenPlays Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Yes, 13 doctors.......blue police call box...... Now Chima is being finished next year I have told by secret sources. Secret sources? You mean the Russian concept video that circulated three years ago? To be honest. If it's Doctor Who, there is still little chance that I'll get into it. However they will sell well, and when I don't "feel" for a theme, that's all I could ask for TLC. Quote
gedren_y Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Chima is also a TV show. Since the theme is ending, and the original Brickset post mentioned a franchise, it is plausible that TLG is reworking Monster Fighters into a brand that would work as a TV show that could be spread throughout several seasons. This could have nothing to do with DW. Quote
Artanis I Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 And said what, they will not make it as it clashes with a currant licence. That would kind of let the cat out the bag. And said nothing. They don't have to say why specific projects are rejected. No one could figure out why the wild west project didn't get any kind of go-ahead, but then shortly afterward we get Lone Ranger sets (that were already in production). 2+2. Quote
lightningtiger Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Since we had Monster Fighters last year, remember back in 2009 and pirate theme.......then what happened within two years......POTC. Based on that logic SD would be a shoe in, but we'll need to wait and see right ? Quote
rodiziorobs Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 (edited) My main concern about this theme being SD is that I bet my money that Lego will make it very kid friendly. So in the end I'm afraid the monsters will look hideous and not in the good way. Yeah, probably something along the lines of the TMNT monster molds. Hopefully not, but I too am afraid that's what we'll get. If, on the other hand, the monsters are good then that might change my mind about the sets. Now Chima is being finished next year I have told by secret sources. I would be surprised if Chima ends so abruptly, what with the Cartoon Network tie-ins, the apparent success of the theme, and the whopping Chima-themed waterpark that opened in Legoland a few months back. Chima will be around at least awhile longer. Edited November 21, 2014 by rodiziorobs Quote
lightningtiger Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 I was told by a retailer that Chima would be ending next year......and theme park rides, well I think the Wild West ride at Movie World is still going and when was that film out ? Plus add to that the Ninjago cinema release in 2016 I would say for an in house brand Lego would stick to just one but have a whole heap of other licenses to cash in on. Quote
Leewan Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Yes, 13 doctors.......blue police call box...... Now that's interesting... I'd be glad to hear more. Anyways, I don't think I like the idea of a Scooby Doo license. I was a big fan of What's New Scooby Doo when I was a kid, and I'd love a Lego Mystery Machine, but besides that, I don't see the point of the license. Quote

I remember back then on 2012,I heard about a Monster Fighters TV show but after that nothing else.I don't know if this was true but if it was, maybe now with this new theme that was said to be a replacement for the MF theme, maybe this time we'll get a TV show based on it. egg roller Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 It would be sooo cool if they made an original theme in the vein of what Boudin sketched. Their own version of Scooby Do. Ive always been a fan of his concepts and a line based on his designs could go far! Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Yes, 13 doctors.......blue police call box...... I think I just died and went to AFOL heaven... All thirteen doctors? I wonder how that's supposed to work... Unless they're planning to release 13 sets with one doctor each (I know, extremely likely ), including several incarnations in one set (based on the special episodes) or by releasing a CM series *Dalek voice* Explaiin!! Explaiiiiiiiiiin!!!! B2T: I have to say, I would never have expected a theme dedicated to Scooby-Doo... After all these years TLG still manage to surprise us on a regular basis Quote
Pulp Detective Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Yes, 13 doctors.......blue police call box...... I don't want to sound stupid but I have no idea what you're talking about. Quote
Faefrost Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 I tend to believe this rumour as I have also been told that DW is happening next year.....all 13 of them. So Lego need to replace Chima with something too....right ? Yes but Chima is a big in house multimedia IP that Lego outright owns. They would not replace it with somebody else's license. They have literally printed money with The Lego Movie, Bionacle, Ninjago and (to a lesser extent) Chima. Heck Hasbro's recent explorations into buying Dreamworks reflect a desire to own the full lifecycle of their own IP, much the way Lego has been doing in recent years, or Marvel. If Scooby Doo is in the mix it will be a small experimental thing, more to satisfy politics Cartoon Network than to be a major planned Chima replacement. If Lego is going to do anything monster related it will be in house. Heck I am more worried that it will be minidoll based than Scooby Doo. Has anyone noticed what Mega Bloks huge new line is for 2015? Monster High. If anything could trip up the Friends Juggernaut that would be it. I'm betting if it is a Chima replacement it will be some sort of Monster battle game tied to a show. Quote
Faefrost Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Yes, 13 doctors.......blue police call box...... Now Chima is being finished next year I have told by secret sources. I am much much more leery of an expended 13 doctors DW series. Much like Scooby Doo, I don't see Lego being that anxious to jump into a license with a competitors product still warming the shelves. At least not with something that doesn't have a huge movie tie in. Scooby Doo and Dr. Who are not PotC and Iron Man. I just don't see them jumping that way. Scooby Doo I can kinda almost see as a political thing. Also remember the rumor might simply mean they investigated it, did a little test work and moved on. Let's not forget that Chima began life as research into a Thundercats theme. So everything we are talking about here might be true. They may have worked on a Scooby Doo theme, opted against it, then taken the non licensed portion of their work and rolled it into a Chima replacement. We will not know until it hits. Quote
Pulp Detective Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 I heard that Universal is planning to make a Cinamatic Monster Universe. So maybe this will be the base for this new theme. More on the CMU: http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/nailbiter111/news/?a=111401 Quote
Cagast Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 I would like this, but I've heard that somebody said he has seen Scooby Doo sets. Only a rumor but it will probably be SD. Also Chima discontinuation? Yay, this means will possibly get another replacement unlicensed theme. Quote
Robert8 Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Where does this Chima ending rumors come from? Is it a reliable source? Cause I think is unlikely And it's even less plausible that it will be replaced with a licensed theme Quote
PenPlays Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Where does this Chima ending rumors come from? Is it a reliable source? Cause I think is unlikely And it's even less plausible that it will be replaced with a licensed theme There was a Russian video full of preliminary Chima stuff detailing a "three-year storyline." The video even specifically said "2015" when referring to it. Quote

tfcrafter Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Monster Fighters did not do well. All the stores in my area still have them shelfwarming. Quote
Robert8 Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 (edited) Yes, here they are still on the shelves too I guess that's why there wasn't a second wave Edited November 24, 2014 by Robert8 Quote
Thelegomaster Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 I'd rather not have Scooby Doo as a full fledged theme. Maybe they could do what The Simpsons is doing and release a UCS like a haunted house and include a mystery machine. We could also have our minifig series. Quote

That's exactly what I said.I can't see SD having a whole wave, especially since it's not a action themed show like other cartoons(TMNT). When I asked how well the MF series did I meant worldwide or atleast domestically like in the US for example. Edited November 24, 2014 by LOTR343 Quote
