Hello,

as a kid I was a huge fan of Space 1999 (Mondbasis Alpha 1 in German).

This led me to trying to build an Eagle out of bricks:

The colours are not correct, as the enthusiasts will know, but my kids needed white & others so only red and blue were left for me at that time. :cry_sad:

Basically this was an exercise in stability & design, as I can lift the whole thing in the middle - and it does not fall apart.

Also, it does not bend.

These two modules are also not 100% like the original (there is only one module underneath an eagle) - I tried two for playability reasons.

However, as you can see on the in- and outside they were never finished.

Reason: My kids showed no interest in this model at all. So it went to sleep ....

Still: I like those Eagles.

Looking at the pictures right now I'd say the "legs" need some more improvement (too small).

... and the two modules look too bulky (but they can relatively easily be attached and taken off).

The different parts of the Eagle are linked by sliding doors.

Unfortunately for me, I have seen some other "Eagle-creations" here on the forum and I liked them much better than mine (both design & choice of colour). :sceptic:

In any case: Your comments are welcome!

Nice try 'Captain Braunsfield'.......they are white normally but I do like the red and blue colours......you can see the design came from the same minds as Thunderbirds can't you ?

Brick On 'Captain Braunsfield' !

Well, my Dinky Toys models are blue and green (with white) but the colour was actually never too important for me. I just loved the design of those space-thingies.

I must be getting old to remember the show.......they were trying to hard......twenty years into the future.....moon base and tiny hand laser weapons ?

But the Eagles totally were awesome and cool.......only Blakes 7 was better in some ways.

Cool. It definitely looks like the Eagles did. I like the way the red and blue look, white would have been better, but I totally understand kids needing certain colors or pieces.

Good try, Captain. It is playable, function over form. I had a Revell model of it back in the days. You can find all episodes of season 1 and 2 on YouTube for those who want to refresh their memories. Season 1 was better. Season 2 got weird.

I even bought the stuff and showed it to the family.... everyone but me was bored. :cry_sad:

I had made preparations to have the cockpit accessible and playable too.

I love this. Although I never watched the show, I love the modula deployment ability and it reminds me of a toyline called Starcomm.

Makes me want to attempt some starcomm mocs from seeing this!

Wish I had the parts!

Why didn't you post the openable cockpit in the original post? That makes it even more fun. Maybe let the kids watch the series. I'll play with it if your kids won't and show them how much fun it is with a monkey pilot crashing the Eagle into the nuclear dump pile. :classic:

Very nice! Instantly recognizable. You use the colors you have and you did a great job with the shapes.

I agree, its a great effort! I used to watch Space 1999 every saturday morning when it was on in the 80's. My favourite episode was the one with the octopus alien in the spaceship graveyard. You couldn't make it up! More please!;D

Pretty cool!

Nicely done

It reminds of Starhip Troopers landind pods a bit, i guess that those were inspired though  well everything is inpired

I built an Eagle back in 1988 . It was my last MOC before my Dark Ages. It had yellow landing pods, a blue cockpit, a grey "spine" (made out of space Lego plates) and probably other colours which I have mercifully forgotten. (Sorry, no pics. It's been 27 years, people!)

I blame the Dinky die-cast toys, which had green cockpit and landing pods, red engine nozzles and thrusters. Eagles in "accurate" grey and white look wrong to me.

I also blame black and white TV. We didn't get a colour one until 1980. I used to think the TARDIS was red, just like the actual police boxes in Glasgow.

So this is pretty cool IMHO :classic:

Yeah, the landing pods could do with beefing up, but that's about all. You did a good job on the shape of the cockpit, and I love the split module!

Ha! I can't believe someone else remembers that episode! I still have nightmares about that octopus. I had the Dinky model of the Eagle and played with it constantly. I love this Lego version, it looks great!

Thanks, ScottishDave.

I also saw everything (initially) in black and white. It was the seventies!!

This is what we are talking about, right?

Somebody wants to buy them?

Ah, yes. That's the ones. I'd forgotten about the blue version.

Not if you're going to swap the passenger and cargo modules around, I'm not  .

Seriously: I have one of these somewhere. If I want any more, I might follow your example and build one out of Lego.

How much?;D

This is great! I can't believe people are bored with this. I would have played with that for months when I was a kid.

I spent many hours detaching and reattching the passenger module on the one I had. Proably the one toy from my childhood that really regret losing.

Amazing MOC of the Eagle!

I too am a great fan of that classic sci-fi show!

But I watched it in early 2000s on DVDs LOL because when it was aired I wasn't still born.
