The whole thing is arbitrary and subjective. When does a car stop being a regular car and become a sports car? Is the cutoff, power, power to weight ratio, or design intent? Which sports cars are muscle cars? What is the line to make one a supercar? Is there any overlap between sports cars, supercars, and muscle cars? You'll get a different answer from every person you ask and therefore these terms have little practical value, though each person is likely to have a general impression of what the terms mean to them.

Any car I can afford to buy is a "car". Any car I can't afford to buy is a "supercar".

I know from this that it is impossible to buy a supercar.

A Corvette is not a muscle car. The Viper and Corvette are High Performance Sports cars and the Corvette ZR1 is in the list of the the top 50 Supercars of all time.

Trust me being partially American I know that these cars were originally muscle cars and they still are. Their bulky shapes and sometimes heavy weight add that with a healthy amount of Horsepower means thy they are muscle cars.

This is completey not true at all...

The Corvette has nothing in common with any typical "Muscle Car" and neither does the Dodge Viper... Muscle cars are normally heavy sedans(meaning room for 4 people)with big horse power... Corvettes(and Vipers) are 2 seaters engineered from the ground up to compete in circuit and track racing agaisnt the European cars like Ferrari and Porsche... "Muscle Cars" are mostly about high horse power striaght line 1/4 mile racing...

The 2015 Corvette ZO6 is in the Supercar group...

That is a well supported argument but they still have some good old american muscle in them.

I have gone to hundreds of car shows over the years and have yet to see a Corvette or Viper in the "Muscle Car" class to win an award... They are usally in the "Exotic" or "High Performace Sport" class...

HERE is a listing of what cars are in what class...

Okay I see your point, Vettes and Vipers are not exotics, You win :cry2:

But anyways what about the GT muscle or Super?

The Dodge Viper is an 8-liter tire shredding stripped out monster. It's not just a muscle car, it's the ultimate muscle car. The vette on the other hand could be called a sports car.

What crowkillers said is true. They were originally muscle cars, but the modern versions are supercars. As for blakbird, you'll find that car reviewer's and car enthusiasts can agree with the terms 'hypercar' and 'supercar'

How on earth can you guys call two 600hp+ high performance cars, sports cars?!

They might of been muscle car before but now they are not supercars. They sports cars, they may have large horsepower but You do not need high horsepower to get a supercar such as the Alfa Romeo 4C and it is only one aspect. If you look at the weight of those cars, gearboxes, handling, weight distribution, aerodynamics, drag, suspension, traction, friction, and many more aspects this is really how you define which is which. The viper and vette are simply more sports cars than supercars.

Actually just checking on this, most major car blogs and websites list the Dodge Viper as a supercar and also exotic. This is right from Car & Driver.

The Viper is both all-American and a true exotic, with lots of curves and bulges to let you know it means business. The long nose, bodacious body, and predatory stare give the Viper menacing looks, while its 645-hp, 8.4-liter V-10 can catapult it to 60 mph in about three seconds. For 2015, the price drops by $15,000, so the Viper is even more of a deal than before. It’s also easier to drive on the track and more comfortable on the road, too—wherever you drive it, the Viper will never be boring.

In the end, these are just arbitrary terms. What might an "exotic" to you might not be to someone else.

Top Gear called the Dodge Viper the bargain Supercar of the decade.

So someone either has it right or wrong.

Well as I said, everyone has their own definition of whats a "supercar" or an "exotic". For the me the front-rear drivetrain configuration, the long bonnet and the noise all scream muscle car more than supercar.

Technically the viper is more of a GT car, front engine, rwd. Also that was from a non american point of view. Who else is waiting for Top Gear season 22!

What about the Lexus LFA? That is considered a supercar and it has a front engine rear wheel drive.

A gt car with more than 600hp is definitely a supercar, that viper and vette have supercar performance, supercar looks and more, therefore it doesn't deserve to be in the same class as an Alfa Romeo 4c: 'sports car'. The viper and vette are faster than the Lexus lfa, and everyone knows the lfa I a supercar. Both cars make enough downforce, otherwise they wouldn't be able to reach speeds of over 200mph. The Aston martin one77 is a gt car, but its a hypercar despite being slower than some supercars. The one77 is a hypercar because it uses expensive materials found in modern hypercars, has an aerodynamic shape, but most of all it costs 1 million pounds which is more expensive than an agera r, huayra, laferrari, p1 and 918. Also hypercars can be based on previous supercars the manufacturer has made, but a more extreme version. For example the huayra is an extreme version of the zonda, the agera r is a hyped up updated version of the cc series koenigseggs. And the one77 is an extreme version of the supercars that Aston martin made before.

Sorry but there are a lot of mistakes with what you have said. First, supercars aren't all about horsepower, top speed, looks, they are also about handling, driving experience and other aspects. The Alfa Romeo 4C is basically a supercar or the cheapest Ferrari ever. The Viper has the same top speed as the LFA (202 mph) but the vette only has a top speed of 190 mph. Just because the one77 uses expensive materials does not mean it is a hypercar. Hypercars are the best performing supercars read more here: http://www.zeroto60times.com/2013/01/supercars-vs-hypercars-definition/

The agera r costs more than 1 million pounds, and the laferrari cost almost double that. You did get the fact that Hypercars can be based on another car but the konigsegg agera r is not a hyped up version of the CC, it is from the agera. The huyra is a new car, if you want a hyped zonda check out the Zonda Revolucion.

Any ways where's the Lego?
