BrickSev Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Hello fellow AFOL I recently bought 33 packs of Series 13 and I make a little overview of my findings I don't know if anyone is interested but I noticed several persons have an interested in "Minifigures packs opening videos" I hadn't the time to create a video so I made a photo version to give a look at the Minifigures, chances etc (even though 33 packs are not very statistically significant) Sorry if I posted in the wrong place or anything. If you are interested here you can find a quick overview with the photos with a brief comment: Minifigures Series 13: 33 packs opening It may not be of supreme quality but it took me a while to do it, so if you find it useful let me know. Few words always motivate Thank you for reading, I hope the article will be useful Quote
telaruhn Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Not bad! Before I read the article, I was hoping you would get all 16, but 15 is almost as good! And I feel the King should be rather easy to find. Your duplicates aren't so bad, either. Having a second fencer means the two can duel! Since you have so many, I was wondering... are there any that you feel are good to get duplicates of? Quote

Since you have so many, I was wondering... are there any that you feel are good to get duplicates of? Thank you very much for your reply I hoped to get all 16 too but I can't complain So the King should be rather easy to find: that's good to read Good point on the fencers: all I'd need to do is to put some colored electric tape strip on them and I got "red" and "blue" team Answering to your question: First, I think all the Minifigures that could be used for army building are good to get duplicate of. Alien Trooper, Egyptian Warrior and Goblin are a good option. Galaxy Trooper is meant to be an "elite soldier" but that does not mean you can make a squad of them, so it's another option. The Samurai is a bit more "complicated", we could say. Without an helmet or changing her headpieces they will look like "clones" of the same person. The Egyptian Warrior has a more "generic" face expression but the Samurai looks "unique" but if you have additional head/hairpieces you can get very nice results. Even the Evil Wizard can be useful if you want to create a "guild" of wizards ( One with the beard, one without etc) The Sheriff has potential (and he also has an interesting side leg printed holster) but more than two will look "repetitious" without changing headpiece. Fencers can be used to create fencing teams, so if you're interested in Olympic games settings they have much to offer. The second reason to welcome duplicate of a Minifigure is its "market value", if you are interested in such things. From that point of view it will depend on what the market's demand but I guess Galaxy Trooper will be very popular. I hope my info have been helpful. I think I should write an article about the "duplicate/army building" matter. You just gave me the idea Thank you again for you comment Quote
telaruhn Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Hmm... There are so many I want to get duplicates of now, I may as well get another set of 16... Hey BrickSev, what's your favorite part in this series? There's a lot of great parts, so I'm wondering if there's any in particular that you like most. Quote
BrickSev Posted January 15, 2015 Author Posted January 15, 2015 Hmm... There are so many I want to get duplicates of now, I may as well get another set of 16... Hey BrickSev, what's your favorite part in this series? There's a lot of great parts, so I'm wondering if there's any in particular that you like most. Good luck in finding the duplicates you look for then Regarding parts: well that's a very good question I hadn't the chance to give them a detailed look but I really like Galaxy Trooper armor (I can't recall if it was already used in the old Galaxy Squad sets as the robots' armor, though) It has nice printings on front and back plus a place to store the two blasters. The Hot Dog mold is quite detailed but honestly it does not look breathtaking to me. The Alien Trooper headpiece is very impressive. Since I'm a Star Wars fan it reminds me of a certain alien species from that Galaxy, far far away. It's a very detailed part with an interesting color scheme. Even the body of the Minifigure it's very interesting. I don't like the Disco Diva headpiece. I think a different headpiece would have make the Minifigure look better. The Samurai has a nice armor but surprisingly her torso part does not look like one of a female Minifigure. I believe they thought "You can't notice under the armor" but if you don't use her armor it looks like you put a female Minifigure head over a male body. Another article I should write, I think about the unique parts. It may be useful for anyone interested in using those Minifigures for their own custom projects Quote
TheLegoDr Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Galaxy trooper armor is brand new. Definitely an appealing figure. Be careful with the female samurai armor. It is so flexible, if you push too hard on the front (like when feeling bags) you will permanently create stress marks and it ruins the look. Quote

It is indeed an appealing figure. Nice printings and also a "storage" for two blasters. If we want to find a flaw in the Minifigure the only one is the lack of printing on the torso. So if you remove the armor you have a "plain" torso while the Space Miner from Series 12 has printing on the body. I noticed that too regarding the Samurai armor. That's one of the reasons I want to get more packs before everyone starts to carelessly feel bags at the store Quote

The armor piece is new but it also appears in the Ultra Agents theme: (By the way, there is already a discussion thread for S13: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=99525 ) Quote

I'm just sharing my findings inside the bags (I explained it in the original post) mostly to provide statistical info etc. EDIT: There is also a distinct thread about Series 13 review because it's different from the rumors/discussion one. Just my opinion. Btw it's interesting to see that armor, even in a different color, is present in the UA sets Edited January 16, 2015 by BrickSev Quote

Was not aware about the samurai armor - I will have to watch out for that when I feel up bags. Are there any other pieces that could have stress marks from being felt through the bags? Quote

Btw I got t10 more bags ( local store has a promotion with discounts etc ) The were the last they had there (they said more are coming) and still no trace of the King. I got another Alien Trooper and Goblin, which can be both useful for army building Quote

BrickSev Posted January 17, 2015 Author Posted January 17, 2015 Funny, by luck I randomly grabbed a bag today and it was the King. Really pleased as it was my favorite mining of the wave... Lucky you Honestly I'm not dying for that Minifigure (I may change my mind once/if I find it) but I'd like to complete the collection. I'm quite pleased when I find duplicates of Alien Trooper and Goblin so I can build a little army. I have 5 Carpenters so I a "Clone Army of workers" lol is being created In my experience, it may vary from case to case of course, I noticed the Carpenter, Disco Diva and Alien Trooper are the most commonly found. I'm pleased with the Alien, much less with the others Quote
BrickSev Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 I finally completed my collection! I found the King! Actually I found 4 of them lol. I got 20 more packs (which I think will be the last ones ) and they were the luckiest packs I ever opened: even three more Goblins for one of my army projects! I'll post some pic and edit the first post because I think with 64 packs I can provide some useful statistic data on the Minifigures chances. Right now it seems Hot Dog man is quite rare: I found only 3 (if I'm not mistaken) of them in 64 packs Quote
MAB Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 You cannot really gain any significant statistical information on packets from already opened boxes, other than what someone else has left. Whitefang's review contains the correct statistics for sealed boxes. Quote

Whitefang's review contains the correct statistics for sealed boxes. Sorry if I try to help with the little info I can get. Btw if we all gather our findings we can get some more useful date. Btw never mind, I'll try to do something else instead. Sometimes it's better think about themselves than trying to do something for others lol Anyway thanks for the clarification EDIT: Just for the records, not even several sealed boxes are enough. Since given the amount of Minifigures produced content may vary greatly from box to box. Like I said, just for the records, if we want to be accurate, let's be completely accurate In the end it's just "home made" statistics, it can be useful, it may, likely, not but it's an effort. Made out of curiosity, surely but it's not made to bother others lol But if everyone would share their finding, then the data start to become more accurate. There are many factors that can affect the chances but the more data we gather the better. I'm aware we'll never gather enough data but share few info cannot hurt. Just my two cents on the matter. Like I said, just for the records, if we want to be accurate, let's be completely accurate Have you got proof of that? Since virtually every sealed box of 60 that I have ever opened has had exactly the same distribution as reported in Whitefang's reviews. The only difference was for Series 3, where the distribution was changed to increase the number of fishermen. Quote
BrickSev Posted January 21, 2015 Author Posted January 21, 2015 Have you got proof of that? Since virtually every sealed box of 60 that I have ever opened has had exactly the same distribution as reported in Whitefang's reviews. The only difference was for Series 3, where the distribution was changed to increase the number of fishermen. The proof is "statistics science". Since they are randomly packed in one packs we can find more "Minifigure A" then "B" and in another pack more "B" than "A" You ask proof but you don't provide any of them a part "those I opened". Beside every series has different Minifigures so how can the chances to get a given one be the same in any series. Unless we are talking about different, things I'm not saying the date you quote are wrong. Of course I didn't say it. I was just intrigued because unless they intentionally follow a given scheme during packing, which could be I don't deny the existence of what I didn't know (I'm aware it may look strange in this world lol), any box randomly packed will likely differ in its content from others. This is what science says. Unless, like I said, they intentionally want to keep a certain ratio in every pack. That would change everything, of course, and would make the packs less random. Like I said I was intrigued. Then I realize you don't find my original post interesting lol No problem: we don't have to like everything we read Quote
m0dulo Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 CMFs are not distributed at random. The reason you find fewer hot dog guys in opened boxes is because that is the minifig everyone wants, especially if they can only have one. My wife and I went through every pack in six almost-full but opened boxes — there were no hotdog guys but we found all the others. Only when we got access to a new, unopened box did we find hotdog guys. Quote

Since they are randomly packed in one packs we can find more "Minifigure A" then "B" and in another pack more "B" than "A" You ask proof but you don't provide any of them a part "those I opened". They aren't randomly packed though. We know that because if you open a sealed box and do the counting, every box is the same. Whereas if you take packets from an already opened box, then what you get depends on what someone else has already taken. If they chose packets truly at random, then your distribution will not be the same as Whitefang's but probably not massively different. If they cherry picked, then you could find that you have zero probability of finding one particular minifig - if they took all of them. I could go and get an opened box and have completely different statistics, as someone else cherry picked a different minifig. Open boxes do tell you something - what other people have left, not what was there originally. Of course, there is some information in there. You can tell if a particular figure was cherry picked for example, if the percentage of that figure occuring was way below Whitefang's statistics for the complete box. Quote

If I'm not mistaken a box contains 60 bags. Is it correct? Quote

Lego will say the one you get is random if you just select one from the box, but it is not from a uniform distribution. Quote

Like I thought, brainstorming and sharing what we know always lead to interesting things. I'll write down what I found and compare the results then. I have 4 more bags I took from another box, though and I don't remember which they were but I should have taken pics in the order I opened them, so I should be able to identify the ones that were not in the sealed box Quote
m0dulo Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 And by checking the dots and using process of elimination, you should be to get a complete set of 16 when selecting only 16 packages, without any duplicates, and without feeling what is inside. Quote
