talos Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 I was wondering how many of you fans go to the trouble of posting a product review on the S@H site? I have only done a few personally, but am getting more interested in doing it. I think the more feedback Lego gets, assuming they read it, is a good thing. I also used to not really read any of the reviews, but again, am becoming more interested in what everyone thinks of something they wanted and then bought. A lot of them are not worth much, the one line type reviews. I find it useful to see the ages and country the reviewers are from, puts attitudes into context a little more. Something its hard to judge on Eurobricks where you can hide all that information. Reviews can be voted upon as well there, thumbs up or down if you agree or disagree with the review. I personally only vote on a few here and there. I was wondering too if you posted a review on there and then added a photo. I have tried doing that twice, and as far as I know, followed the guidelines and have yet to have a photo actually be added to the reviews... Strange that there are a few customer photos here and there, but they all seem pretty much identical to the official photos used for a set. Maybe there is just a huge time lag for things being posted...I don't know. Quote
Darth Punk Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 I posted a similar question here http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=104273&st=25 My response would be that reviews on s@h are pretty useless. The format greatly limits any real useful information other than the usual I loved it, hated it, I'm happy or sad. Plus there are generally a very small number of reviews because most people don't take the time to complete one thus it's more likely someone has a particular motivation for completing a review. Not to mention to knowledge level of the average s@h user is not going to be at the same level of the average eurobricks user. Here someone can take a good deal of time and put forth much effort to provide a detailed look at a set. They can include a wide range of photos of details that people here care about. Provide information on new pieces, minifig variations etc. Not to mention questions can be asked for further information and people can add a variety of perspectives and thoughts that can enhance the overall review. This is only a small snapshot of what can be find here but you get the idea. It is also what someone who has more than a general interest is going to want to know. Quote
talos Posted January 15, 2015 Author Posted January 15, 2015 Thanks for that link, I did somehow miss that thread. Interesting reading people's take on that situation. I am inclined to think that there is a lot of editing going on in the background with reviews on S@H, which is kind of bad, not very fair to those that take time to read reviews there. I agree, if you want to really know about something Lego, its much more valuable to look here than on the Lego sites. Its too bad they don't really put a lot of effort in keeping their sites up to date and accurate. I am thinking more of Lego.com than S@H. If someone went to the Lego.com site, and tried to look for the modular buildings, they would have to spend a lot of effort, and when finally found, would find that they still show the Fire Brigade as a set that you could still buy. The DO is not even on there yet. Its been out for a couple weeks now... Quote
talos Posted January 15, 2015 Author Posted January 15, 2015 This is an interesting coincidence. I got an email asking me to post product reviews for sets I have bought recently. I think this is new, not sure, I don't recall ever getting a message like this before. Quote
talos Posted January 17, 2015 Author Posted January 17, 2015 I was just trying to access the tablet version of the S@H site. What a disaster that is! I am using an iPad and when you use the tablet version, nothing works reliably. I wish they would invest some development money on getting it to work right. I tried to go to the 'Customer Reviews' tab for the DO set. I posted a review there over 3 days ago and its still not there..but what is really annoying, when trying to page through the reviews, (says there are about 20 pages) I get to the bottom of a page, and then it changes the tab back to the Product Description. So you have to reselect the Reviews tab, and it goes back to where you were. OK, I was doing that, but then you get to about page 8 of 20, and then all the reviews disappear and it says: There are no reviews posted for this product.! Really... Quote
TheLegoDr Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 I have read some reviews on S@H, but I mostly stick with reviews on Eurobricks, mostly for the depth. I like the variety of angles of pictures and the more describing of what to like/not like. Although, I have also done a handful of Brickset reviews. That gives some insight into sets. I think with the little time I have, I end up not doing reviews only because I have other things I could be doing. But if I had more time, I would certainly do more reviews. I like reviewing things. And it is usually longer than "best set ever" or "worst set ever." Quote
Faefrost Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 If I am going to do a short form personal opinion type review I am more prone to do it on Brickset or Amazon, as those have a better interface and mechanism, and I think even if people don't read the specific review they at least easily get the aggregate of everyone's feelings. The S@H site I always found very clunky. How come I can write reviews for some sets but not others? Even being able to see the reviews seems random from product page to product page. And I only allow a site to devour what I have written while attempting to post, twice before I say the hell with it. Quote
