Anton D'Oro was scared. When Masa had first told him that his first lesson under Masa's guardianship was to steal some treasure from an old dragon, he had been full of enthusiasm. Now that he was within feet of the dragon, his courage had disappeared. The old dragon was larger than he had imagined and looked invincible. But he would not run. He would never be able to face his father, Lord Raphael, again if he ran from his first training. Whatever the outcome, he would follow Masa's instruction.

Masa could sense that the young D'oro was scared. He was glad. The old dragon, whom Masa had nicknamed "Old Bones", paced back and forth in the cavern as if he knew some thief was there to steal his treasure. He would never let any harm come to the lad and that is why he picked this dragon to begin the lad's training. He wanted to see how the lad would perform under fear and whether he would follow Masa's orders even if it seemed those orders would cause him harm. It was important to establish early on complete trust and obedience in this lad because if there was any real danger, the lad must follow his commands without a second thought. He had purposely failed to inform Anton of some important information about this dragon. Years before, no telling how long ago, some necromancer had raised this dragon back to life with an incomplete spell. The poor creature had no sight, no hearing, and no smell, couldn't even breathe fire and was practically harmless unless by some accident he managed to step on you.

Very interesting, Mike S!

The story is captivating with an interesting end and the build supports it well! Interesting parts usage for the dragon, especially the tail. The stones and columns give a great cavern feel to the presentation. It is always nice to see great piles of treasure, especially with a dragon guarding!

Wonderful little story. Nicely executed build. The only thing that had me confused for a moment was the third image. The straight on shot made the dragon look almost like a spider. :hmpf_bad:

Very cool build. Interesting take on a black dragon. I like that it looks a bit like the xenomorph from the Alien franchise. Those columns are also very cool, great work on the breakage point.

Thanks! I had that tail piece put together for some time and when I put the rest of the dragon together it seemed to fit...

This is nice! I like the Dragons head, it looks great and a lot like a beak!

Thanks! Ha, I'm trying to find some other uses for the Hero Factory pieces. Not a traditional dragon head but gives the dragon category some deviation....

Nice build! The dragon looks neat, and the columns are a good addition. Also great story!

Thanks for the comment!

Lovely dragon, and great story!

Thanks! I have another dragon in the works but waiting for LEGO to make a certain piece in black.

I love how you've made those wings, it really feels like dragon scale armor!

Thanks! The wings are what gave me incentive to photograph it. I'm still trying to figure out a less bulky way to attach them and be as sturdy.

The shape of those columns is great! Hope you don't mind if I borrow the idea someday!

Thanks! The columns were just a quick throw together to give the dragon a scene. Definitely don't have a problem with you borrowing the idea.

Love those columns and great dragon design! I also love the story you've written to go with the build. Great work!

Thanks! Glad you liked them!

Thanks! Haha, my wife said the exact same thing when she saw the pic. At first glance it definitely does kind of look like a spider. I was trying to show the brick built skeletal underbelly but the angle shot is not quite right.

Really great job on those ruined columns.

Thanks! The columns were actually just a quick throw together to give the dragon a scene.

Thanks! If it wasn't for the wings, I probably wouldn't have bothered photographing it or building the pillars to make a scene for it. This is one of those builds that came together without meaning to build anything. One part led to the next.

I like the giant column, though the dragon I'm not sold on. I think its lack of a well defined/detailed head is the only thing that's holding it back for me, or perhaps the camera angles with respect to the head. I dunno. Great work for an unplanned build and it's got a nice story to boot!

Very nice job on that dragon and the broken pillars! It feels a lot like it could be a scene from the hobbit, with the dragon sleeping on his treasure, and the people hiding behind the pillar.
