January 21, 201510 yr Very fine MOC, I love it! Great atmosphere, good architecture and great army. The only thing I think you could make a little better is the wooden tower. The one from last photo with close-up. It doesn't fit really well imho. I don't know why, maybe it need some randomness with tiles or different proportions? But it is just small detail, overall great MOC. Good job!
January 21, 201510 yr I've been a bit Japan obsessed recently and have been watching a ton of Japanese historical movies with lots of these castles recently. This is truly excellent work. I'd love to have something like this on display at my house - if only I had the skill (and parts) to build it.
January 21, 201510 yr Very nice MOC one of the best I have ever seen in the Japanese theme. The stonework is superb as well as the building and how it raises straight out of the ground. ice collection of mini-figures as well! Happy Building, Sir Valiant~
January 21, 201510 yr Really nice MOC a bit overcrowded entrance. Are this guys in hat from same fraction as the one without ? Cos i don't see any closeup and i don't know if they fighting or they all running inside.
January 21, 201510 yr Author I'm overwhelmed! Thanks so much guys! Some pics seem to be a bit dark (ok, I am always struggling with picture improvement myself... ) Yeah, I know. Sadly, photograpy is not one of my storgest sides. And the swedish dark winter makes it hard to take good pictures with natural light. I'd been thinking about doing one of these castles for a while, but I had no idea where to start. This is really amazing, and is inspiring me to give it a crack. Really just top notch stuff. Any chance you could give us a closer shot of the courtyard and (if there is one) the interior? Thanks! The building is just hollow, so there isn't much to see. And unfortunately, after I had taken some photos I began to tear it down.
January 21, 201510 yr This is absolutely beautiful. Excellent work. Would love to see more models based on this setting!
January 22, 201510 yr Wow, that is a really nice castle. You have my respect! The details on the walls are outstanding. It is a funny coincidence because I am preparing a presentation on a related topic right now. The Meiji-Restoration. (The events that followed the 250 years of japanese isolation.) I like it that you give a little background. That really helps to get the feeling of the time your Moc takes place in.
January 22, 201510 yr Thanks! The building is just hollow, so there isn't much to see. And unfortunately, after I had taken some photos I began to tear it down. Ah that's a shame. Still, thanks for taking the time to share this with us.
January 22, 201510 yr As someone who spent nearly 5 years in Japan and visited more than a few castles there, I have to say, this is spot-on. Excellent attention to detail, and the use of SNOT one the walls is brilliant--though I have to say, those Europeans must bet absolutely atrocious fighters to be losing to invading troops; every last detail of the Japanese castles, from the slope of the staircases to the width of each individual step, is meticulously designed to make defense easy for the defenders while making every inch gained a true struggle for the invaders. Having done my fair share of running up and down the steps, I can definitely attest that the disadvantage the invaders are facing is most intense. They should make this an actual set to buy, I would Agreed, even a scaled-down Architecture line version of Himeji Castle would be amazing.
January 22, 201510 yr A slightly smaller scale Japanese castle, with the same Japanese-style detailing but not so huge a base, would make an excellent LEGO Ideas project. I'd buy, for sure.
January 22, 201510 yr A slightly smaller scale Japanese castle, with the same Japanese-style detailing but not so huge a base, would make an excellent LEGO Ideas project. I'd buy, for sure. I'd buy it too. Currently the only "Japanese-style" official building is the Ninjago temple so a proper Japanese castle would be very appreciated
January 22, 201510 yr Best Japanese-themed build I've seen! Would it be okay to steal some of these techniques? (of course it is). Clever use of the minifig plates, my brother and I have quite a few of them. Nice to see that they can be used for Asian roofs. :)
January 24, 201510 yr Amazing! Love the castle's roof, though the lower walls seem a little bland compared to the white and black upper section
January 24, 201510 yr Beautiful architecture with very nice roof and a differente way to build the rocks. Congrats!
January 25, 201510 yr Brilliant work! It is very aspirational. Makes me want to try my hand at MOCing events from history.
