October 10, 20159 yr I have to mention, Im happy TLG chose the approach it did, with a complex reveal instead of just teasing us with a minifig or poster. Bravo and thank you, to whom it may concern in TLG.
October 10, 20159 yr A set that retails for only 25 dollars probably wouldn't contain five figs, especially since the NK figure distribution is fairly thin (As evidenced by the 3 figs for 60 bucks in the Jestro set). Also, Axl will probably remain exclusive to Fortrex for the first wave, so more people will buy that set to get him. My predictions: King's Mech: King, Queen, Good guy soldier, Lava monster and lava golem (The little ones). Merlock's library: Merlock, Purple Princess, Lava monster, Lava "Ball" (The ones that stick to Axl in the trailer. True, I had no idea on the prices of these sets, what exact price do we know for these sets? I was thinking one would be $40 and the other like $30.
October 10, 20159 yr Author True, I had no idea on the prices of these sets, what exact price do we know for these sets? I was thinking one would be $40 and the other like $30. I think that the Merlock one was 24.99 and the Mech was 31.99, but the prices were in British Pounds. Guessing that one is 25 and the other is 35 bucks. Dannylonglegs mentioned having the other Giant Lava guy in the Mech set. I like that idea! Edited October 10, 20159 yr by BrickJagger
October 10, 20159 yr I'm just gonna leave leave this here without comment http://brickset.com/sets/8779-1/The-Grand-Tournament Wow did he see in the future or what?

October 10, 20159 yr honestly the Castle is the best part of these. I've never wanted a big set so much!

October 10, 20159 yr <p> But as for the „childishness“ debate, I do think that by pursuing the „coolness“ factor, like sticking jet engines or glowing energy weapons or hoverboards in historical-themed settings is a mark of this theme being childish. In other words, the practice of incogruously mixing „cool“ stuff from various areas (or historical periods, in this case) to keep kids with short attention spans excited, instead of focusing on well-rounded themes with their own pluses and minuses – like for example, accepting that a characteristic of castle/medieval/fantasy settings is a low tech level, which creates is own opportunities and challenges, distinct from sci-fi. I disagree quite a bit with that, because the general theme is the one of warhammer 40.000 : medieval esthetique in a sci-fi universe. Or, in a less pronunced way, like Star Wars or Dune (or Metabaron, or ...). Sci-fi being actually a reskined medieval time is everywhere.
October 10, 20159 yr My guess for: -King's Mech: King, Queen, robot knight, lava guy; mech and some type of prission cell for the queen. -Libray: Merlock hologram on a tile, Robin, Princess, small lava thing; something like the 2011 ninjago blacksmith with some type of play function and some books. October 10, 20159 yr I hope they do end up making that new skirt piece, looks better than the original slope piece we get for some female minifigs Let's avoid quoting a bunch of pictures when you just want to make a comment about one. Thanks.
October 10, 20159 yr This looks like it's going to be an interesting theme, but I think that LEGO went overboard with the new molds and figure designs. They're starting to look too elaborate and un-LEGO-like, almost like Mega Bloks. LEGO should probably keep a limit on the number of molds they make for new themes to make sure that people can still afford them.
October 10, 20159 yr LEGO should probably keep a limit on the number of molds they make for new themes to make sure that people can still afford them. They do have such a limit, but it varies from theme to theme depending on the number of different sets and the quantity of each set that they plan to produce. Incidentally, this is why LEGO Ideas can't include new molds, since its sets are released individually in relatively small quantities. As the LEGO Group continues to grow they can afford to produce more new sets per theme in greater quantities, and consequently, to produce more new molds per theme. The first year of LEGO Ninjago had at least 24 new molds, and that's counting the pre-assembled spinners as one piece rather than counting up each molded piece individually. The first year of LEGO Legends of Chima had at least 29 new molds, not counting the molds from the constraction sets and again counting the pre-assembled Speedorz chassis as one piece. So far, if I'm correct, only 29 new molds have been observed for this theme so far? The 30 parts from this post, minus the four that were actually pre-existing parts, plus the king's sword, Axl's axe blades, and Macy's plume? That's not so bad. I'm sure there will be more in the second half of the year, but I still don't expect it to be a huge increase from what we saw in Chima and Ninjago.
October 10, 20159 yr I think the hover horse that comes with the monster pod racer looks great too. Other than Fortrex and that horse, I feel kind of meh. I like the new parts and the new good guys though. But that castle puts everything else to shame. Such a nice mix of Castle and Space.
October 10, 20159 yr I would so not care about this new theme if it wasn't replacing the good old castle - I don't get it. Kids don't like castles anymore? Fine, they just had to bring a bit of fantasy, like LotR but without a license. But this thing looks like a comeback of the 80's bad taste. Or maybe the whole idea started as a Warhammer ripoff, but failed? Edited October 10, 20159 yr by anothergol
October 10, 20159 yr So her plume is identical to her ponytail? Because I could swear that it has exactly the same color and shape. In one of the videos LEGO released for Nexo Knights they show her having that exact hairpiece, and not as a plume.

Also, take off all the awesome spacy details and you still have a beautiful Castle. Loosen up Lego is all about imagination.
October 10, 20159 yr I wonder if the plume piece attaches via a pin (just like previous plumes). Do we have a decent picture of that piece?
October 10, 20159 yr I really hope that someday I wont accidentally thro away some of the parts thinking they're megabloks or something

SW has fairly normal sci-fi characters with a vague knight/paladin order veneer laid over them, while Nexo Knights is Castle with a sci-fi touch. Although I dislike SW, there is one thing that SW currently has that Nexo Knights doesn't: properly monstrous creatures. Seriously, a book of monsters should be able to spawn stuff more creative than generic, if nicely-done, humanoids made of lava and living fireballs. Edited October 10, 20159 yr by DraikNova
October 10, 20159 yr I really hope that someday I wont accidentally thro away some of the parts thinking they're megabloks or something Yeah, I kind of get that feel too. At least from the castle. but I still haven't thrown away my Megablocks. maybe I'll burn them Nexo Knights is kind of the flip side of Star Wars. October 10, 20159 yr LOTR is Castle in the same way that Starwars is Space. exactly - so if LOTR was still a Lego theme this/next year, then I'd say yes, ditch the castle, because it's redundant. But it's not - I'm not seeing anything to replace castles this/next year. It's pretty weird IMHO, to me Lego has always been about 2 main themes: castles & spaceships, the themes you'd think would never disappear. Also, take off all the awesome spacy details and you still have a beautiful Castle. I'm not really seeing it, I see something that looks like a Duplo castle here. But it's not - I'm not seeing anything to replace castles this/next year. There doesn't have to be a castle theme every year... There isn't a Space theme every year (Star wars does not count). Or a pirate theme either. And I wouldn't worry about Nexo Knights precluding a Castle theme. Nexo Knights might actually inspire Lego to make that Roman theme all the AFOLs have always clamored for. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Edited October 10, 20159 yr by Dannylonglegs

And I wouldn't worry about Nexo Knights precluding a Castle theme. Nexo Knights might actually inspire Lego to make that Roman theme all the AFOLs have always clamored for. This. I find it a bit ironic that so many people are complaining about Nexo Knights being more sci-fi than they expected. The more sci-fi it is, the better chance it has of NOT being in direct competition something truly historic. Back when this theme was still in Historic Themes, somebody also brought up the possibility that Nexo Knights could coexist with a Vikings reboot. That still seems like a pretty viable idea to me! With so many pre-industrial cultures and time periods to choose from, there's got to be at least one that the LEGO Group could use this opportunity to explore. Let's also not forget that LEGO Ideas is still out there as an avenue for medieval European sets, and a LEGO Ideas set based on medieval history might actually stand a better chance without the prospect of a full Castle theme springing up in direct competition with it.
