ChristopheQ Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 My son got Ultimate Aaron, Lance horse and Clay blade from friends for his birthday. I am not impressed by the Ultimate, nice armor and shields, but not enough for the price tag (especially if you compare it to the new Cole Dragon for example)... He will try to exchange the 2 others sets for bad guys vehicles. Hoping Flame thrower and the Scurrier will come back in wawe 2 in a set we like... Quote
DraikNova Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 The Clay blade cruiser is one of the best sets, though. Quote
ChristopheQ Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 (edited) The Clay blade cruiser is one of the best sets, though. Indeed, I like the cool design. My son love it, super playability. But (except some 10$ boxes) it has the worst price/pieces ratio of the sets. And to display I prefer the Fortrex. The most emblematic set of the wave. Plus I am into heavely modifying the sets, and the Fortrex has more rooms for that. By the way, they kind of mess up the differention between the 2 big good guy sets. Both having scurriers, Clay and Ash Attacker... I feel that if you invest 80$ in the theme, the Blade cruiser is a very legit option. But if you want to make the best of 150$-350$, it could be a pass... (Fortrex, Evil Mobile and Chaos Chariot give you all the knights and the core of the bad guys for 190$, then for good guys : King Mech or Library over the Cruirser for the figs... But then Wave 2 will arrive and change the equation... (with Axl tower transport probably pairing well with the Cruiser over the Fortrex) Edited January 18, 2016 by ChristopheQ Quote

In a way you're paying for the 'free' merlok 2.0 app with the Ultimates. It's kinda like Dimensions (and Skylanders, Amiibo etc). You pay a premium on the toy to get additional content in the app. What's great about this however, is that you can read all the nexo powers from videoreviews. So even though they want you to pay for the app (via lego purchases), you don't really have to. Edited January 18, 2016 by NotMegalodon Quote

thetang22 Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 While I'm not a fan of the mech-knight look of the good guys (I'm one of those medieval fantasy fans), the bad guys do have a decent amount of usability with my existing Castle Legos. I decided to buy Ultimate Lavaria while at the store. While the majority of the non-minifig parts seemed very inconsequential, the minifig itself was good. The head will also serve double duty as an Old Republic Sith quite convincingly. My biggest criticism is the handle type for the new shields. The handle of the larger oval shields has always been superior to that of the old traditional shields, because the older shields were held out way too far from the body. The oval shields could rest closer to the body in a manner that looked much more natural. These new Nexo shields take the problem of the old shields and amplify it. Quote
CM4Sci Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Finally got my Fortrex, and I love it! Now I've got all the knights in their normal suits, and Merloks Library to attach. Oh, and 4/6 Ultimates, more... I love this theme! I've also been noticing the cone piece has been an extra in a few recent sets, any reason why? Quote
8BrickMario Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 So far, I'm really wanting the two largest sets. Jestro's vehicle is one of the best-looking things I've seen in ages, and its play features seem really nicely done. And the Fortrex is also a great set, with lots to do. And if I get both, I have an idea for the two sets... Quote
Mr Greeble Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 So- Quandary here: Should I buy A: Clay's Rumble Blade. On one hand I really like the looks of this, but I think it's too expensive for it's size. I also don't have Clay yet. or B: Fortrex. I'm a little hesitant about laying down $100+ on this, but It looks really nice, and I don't have most of the figures in it. What do you guys say? Quote
Ookami Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Does anybody know, whether there are going to be new suits for the Knights in summer sets or not? Quote
DraikNova Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 (edited) Yes. We're getting a vehicle for Macy, something called the Globlin Thrower, a flying vehicle for Aaron, a mobile tower for Axl and a huge volcano base for Jestro. EDIT: Oops, could have sworn that read "sets". So- Quandary here: Should I buy A: Clay's Rumble Blade. On one hand I really like the looks of this, but I think it's too expensive for it's size. Exetrius Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Does anybody know, whether there are going to be new suits for the Knights in summer sets or not? I believe that is not known yet. Some folks here may have seen prelims from retailer catalogues, but generally they are not a very good guideline to the final minifigs. Ultimate Axl will certainly be new though. Quote

Based on the episodes, his most notable characteristic is going to be an additional pair of large arms ending in the Chima gorilla fists in black. Quote
ChristopheQ Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Does anybody know, whether there are going to be new suits for the Knights in summer sets or not? I guess the general opinion would be that new armors are very unlikely. 1 or 2 knights should appear only once in the 7 sets, it would be kind of a waste. 2017 much more probably... Quote

Still I will go for the Fortrex without an hesitation. Be part of the History ! It could/should become an iconic and classic set, the incarnation of the theme. The comparison would probably be more fair with the coming Volcano Base... Closer price point, probably more impressive, but probably less original design wise... gunm Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 I just bought the Blade. I like the look and the play features a lot. Quote

I own both and somewhat lean towards the Rumbleblade. The fortrex is an iconic piece, but the piece count was inflated by the tracks and the numerous 1x1 trans orange ammo bits. Of the three main "good" vehicle sets, the Rumbleblade comes first for me, then Fortrex, then Lance's horse-bike. Ofc, the 'evil' sets rate much higher so take this with a grain of salt. :). Infernox Captures the Queen is a must have imho. Quote

Infernox Captures the Queen is a must have imho. Interesting, thank you. I would be happy very happy to see a photo with the blade, the horse, the Fortrex and the King Mech together. I am not fan of Infernox. But to be fair, except the Fortrex and the hover horse (and maybe the king Mech, even if Lego Mecha are not my favorit), I love the playability of NK sets but am not too fond of the design (very difficult to have both, I know), I prefer the last Ninjago one. The chaos Chariot has huge potential for exemple, but the back is a bit boring, etc... It's mostly the minifigs and their equipement which got me, and especially the lovely bad guys... (and the books !!I will buy all of them, I am even considering buying the Elves secret market place for the book and the purple stair, perfect for a Ava room/library on my planned "improved" Fortrex) Edited January 18, 2016 by ChristopheQ Quote
NotMegalodon Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 My son really wants the Chaos Chariot... Which surprised me a bit. He wants it's more than the Rumbleblade or Mecha Horse. We might get the Fortrex one day, but i'm really hoping/waiting for a 30% discount. Quote

(8 years old), but what is not to love about 2 giants awesome globlins... And Macy !! and a red hover horse !! And he likes Beast Master (who has a nice head but is probably my least favorit vilain). Got it today and Jestro mobile. Will open them tomorrow. Quote

It's the HQ for the knights, has two Scurriers, and some really nice figures. It's also packed with play features. Fortrex is a great set. Main build is impressive and is the "Signature" set for the hero side. However, the secondary builds (the knight builds in particular) are very mediocre. Good selection of minfigs/characters. Piece count is exaggerated by track and stud launcher ammo as others have mentioned. It's also the highest priced set in the wave. The Rumble Blade is, quite simply, an engineering marvel. 4 separate vehicles that can be played with individually and combined into 3 different configurations (Rumble Blade itself, base and Clay Bot bikes and base and Clay's fighter jet). The engineering is even more impressive when you consider the size of the fully combined vehicle (it is not very large) and the fact that not a 1/4 inch/mm of space was wasted. This could have easily been a $60USD set, but Lego gave it to us at a $40 price point, which is just amazing. This is by far the best vehicle set of the wave and an excellent value when you consider the points I just made. I bought this for my son for Christmas and we both love to fiddle with it! So, in case my gushing didn't give it away - you owe it to yourself to get the Rumble Blade! Also, consider this: In the next wave we get a set called "Axl's Mobile Tower" or Axl's Tower Carrier (depending on which site leaked the set names). If you take the first name at it's face value, what you may end up getting is a smaller version of Fortrex at a price point of around $50USD less than Fortrex. I'd get the Rumble Blade now and hold out until we see pictures of the summer wave and wait for Fortrex to come on sale. Quote

Lyichir Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 (edited) So, we should know more details about summer sets when London toy fair begins at the end of this month right? End of this month? Try two days from now. We probably won't get comprehensive information about the full theme, considering the lack of photography, but we'll probably get plenty of anecdotes and maybe even a full set reveal, if one of the sets is lucky enough to win an award at the show.
