You know what would be funny after all this Action vs Historic forum discussion?

If the storyline says this is taking place in another planet, this would go to the Space forum

Hmm... What if the storyline says it's taking place on an odd shaped island inhabited with robotic warriors?

Perhaps a constraction theme?

I jest.

I don't care much for the look of these sets, but I'm sure I'll be able to find something I like in them. I will probably purchase a few for parts.

This is where you are wrong, you think if we get another traditional castle theme like fanstasy era it would be great? It wouldn't compare to those sets. Trust me when I say this, if Lego were to give you another fantasy era theme, you would find something wrong with the sets and most of you would say how it doesn't compare to 2007. You guys are asking for something that won't happen in a long time. Lego will focus on kids and that's how its going to be like for the next couple of years.

I can see your point, but still think you're wrong. Kids are not only five years old, Lego can target older kids. A ten-year-old won't like a set designed for nursery-aged kids. I admit that Chima has it's own charme and as time goes may will be remembered as a classic theme by those who played with it as small kids despite I don't like it at all. A classic Castle theme's targeted for the 8-12 years old and adults can see value in theese type of sets too. So I think we don't want a theme for adults, just want a more sophisticated theme primarly targeted for the 8-12 years old kids. Lego already has every moulds to make it just needs to give the green light for the designers.

I don't hate NK, actually looking forward to it for new moulds.

I don't think these designs are particularly juvenile, or at least, not in the Juniors range. I rather enjoy the off-the-wall designs for some of these, but I don't see them as too childish. I'll need to see the official pictures to make a final judgement, though. There are other LEGO themes to satisfy older audiences, too, and other themes as well. There's something for everyone if you're willing to expand your horizons a bit. If not, feel good! You're saving money that could be used in a better way!

I find this very imaginative. Ever since the Lego movie I've noticed the sets having a more imaginative... not so formulaic feel. Hard to describe, but I like the direction. Picture the castle set from the movie sets for example.

For the record, I actually liked the 2013 castle sets, even if they weren't as creative and imaginative as some of what came before. And I definitely did my part to boost sales.

Regarding Nexo Knights, I'll share a quote I left elsewhere on EB, before I even knew this discussion existed. I think it fits: "Sadly, this is what much of Lego has become: just another action/fantasy/sci-fi hodgepodge." It looks like the themes are gradually going that direction, to the point that a lot of it runs together or overlaps in some way. That's the type of stuff that sells, because young children (boys at least) seem to be more enthused by it. I don't get it at all... but then I'm an adult, and my preferences are different. But I wonder how unique Lego can really remain among toys if or when the majority of the stuff looks like this. City, Friends, Technic, etc. probably won't get this treatment, which is part of what makes them so appealing to me. But I won't proclaim this to be a bunch of "stupid crap" the way I refer to one very popular theme; it's a new twist on an old theme, and I'm okay with seeking out older castle sets to fill the void. I prefer building historically correct material, so no one lineup within the historic themes really stands out to me and it doesn't really matter. I suspect Nexo Knights will be popular... but there's not a snowball's chance in Hades of me buying any of it. Over and out.

I don't think that themes are gradually going on any direction

They just need to try different stuff each time. Otherwise it would be boring and repetitive

We already got a theme like this one: KK2... and it got 3 waves. LEGO is just revisiting a specific style of Castle already made

At some point, they will revisit Fantasy Era and everyone will be happy again

Also, I don't understand why everybody is complaining about the direction LEGO takes with Nexo Knights. It's not like there's a shortage of traditional Castle or Fantasy stuff out there...

Currently, there actually is a shortage. When I go to the LEGO Store, I see no traditional Castle stuff (save a few remaining Hobbit sets). Nexo Knights will actually be very likely to impede the development of anything further in this area during its lifetime. Of course, that's an assumption. They might just have a new line of Castle sets in 2017 that fit that perfectly. And yes, there will likely be something to complain about with those sets, because nothing's perfect and we all have ideas for how to improve them.

If you're a castle fan, this theme has things just for you.

I disagree. There is little to nothing that appeals to a traditional castle fan in the Nexo Knights theme.

Having said that, I may pick up a few things once I see the final designs, but it will likely be through BrickLink or some other aftermarket where I can find the very few pieces that appeal to me because I think most of the sets are laughable.

Nexo Knights is great for people who are into that kind of thing (Action themes / Sci-fi Fantasy hybrids). I just don't call it Castle and would really like to see something that I'm into. The biggest complaint I've seen is that this is (as far as anyone can tell) being passed off as Castle when it is really only a veneer or facade of Castle on a bunch of Sci-fi sets.

Oh, boy. Remember the days when we had to pretend that out minifigure weapons shot things?

That was, what, a year ago?

Those were the days...... :cry_sad::grin:

Great, folks around here are making jokes again. :classic: By the way, I think it's cool that LEGO has invested a lot in the past years in designing many new projectile launcher parts. The spring-loaded shooter, three different stud shooters and the 1x4 disc launcher brick all work fine, better than the good (bad?) old flick fire missile. I am curious as to how that crossbow piece will perform shooting both studs and missiles!

The release of the NK theme will probably mean that there will be no regular castle line for at least three years, which is quite sad. However, I think that this does not eliminate the possibility of getting regular castle-themed sets.

A few years back, the Creator theme reinvented itself with introduction of minifigs and desireable new buildings. Some more innovation will keep this theme fresh. Therefore, why not put castle buildings in this line? I'm talking detailed, more serious, fully closeable, Creator standards, but a little up-marketed. A nice watchtower, a mill, a market scene, bakery, blacksmith, inn and ultimately a castle. Not all at once, two per wave max. How about it?

I would be all for it. They did a brick-built Dragon in the Creator line, so it's not unfeasible to do Castle concepts there. Personally, I'm hoping for Expert level builds.

In the last few episodes of the Ninjago TV show, alternate dimensions/realms were mentioned. Would LEGO dare to make a connection between themes like that?

I think it the idea is cool.

Duuuuuuude. That is a delightful thought.

That said, maybe that's the plight of anyone with a sharp focus to their interests. Unless you're a city/town enthusiast, not everyone is going to be getting their favorite theme every year. I may just be spoiled because fantasy and kingdoms had so much to offer.

Or if you're a Ninjago fan. At any rate, considering that you're not spending much on sets, doesn't this leave you with a reasonable amount of money to order parts via bricklink/Bricks and Pieces? In my experience with other themes, sets rarely offer many pieces that are useful to make things in the same style, but at a larger scale. Since less of your money is going into these sets that are less than optimal for MOCcing, that money should allow you to get exactly the things you need for MOCcing. The more specialized pieces needed for Castle MOCs are still offered in Nexo Knights as far as I can see.
