Vikings would be cool, but I'm not a fan of brick-built animals. Still, I think the sets would be nice and hopefully offer us some great parts and minifigures.

Good point. So while it may be fun to talk about Vikings, it should probably be done in a separate topic.

I hope Nexo Knights doesn't get into robo-dragon territory. It's too robo already. Maybe a dragon that they can attack with their robo-weapons.

After reading all these hate comments I have to say is I'm glad that now Knights Kingdom II won't be the most hated Castle theme ever :classic:

I think I am the only person on here looking forward to this theme.

*Raises hand eagerly*

Me too! Me too!

I think that the amount of hate that this theme has supposedly gotten is greatly over exaggerated. It's getting better reception than Chima did, but not quite as good as Ninjago, which was to be expected since Ninjago was the first of its kind and NK is the third.

A few unhappy users here aren't going to change the fact that this theme will run three years at minimum and churn out tons and tons of sets, so we should be well stocked in the coming years. :classic:

I think they're just a bit upset they're not getting their nostalgic, classic Castle again :poke:

The shields, all the new pieces, I just love it.

I am! I love the wacky color scheme and hover-shields.

Also like your new profile pic. The only image I have of the cover cuts Aaron in half. :hmpf_bad:

I like this theme far more than Chima or Ninjago (that huge new temple set being an exception). I also like this theme more than KKII.

I think that depends on the reception of the first wave

.........and Robert8 doesn't like you.

@Sci I feel like these "Classic Castle or Die" guys in this thread don't realize exactly how much they disliked the 2013 line until Lego brings it back. After that, they will be up in arms screaming for a return to Fantasy Era. :purrr:

Chalk me up as someone excited.

I've been staying away as I don't want to rub my excitement and joy that there is a genuinely good looking, modern, and refreshing theme on the horizon to the purists.

You can also chalk me up as some one who ADORED KKII. I seriously don't get the flak it gets.

Great story.

Great characters that looked unique (due to their vibrant colors).

Heck even the set designs were unique. Chomping snakes. A transforming Castle. A set that was short lived that served as the first substantial battle pack that goes for exorbitant amounts of money on the internet. :cry_sad: Buildable figures that used the LEGO System! It's genius!

I'm cautiously optimistic about this line. I liked Chima a little--I think it had some great minifigures and a lot of cool ideas, but a lot of sets felt gimmicky. Ninjago I grew to really love--the figures especially, but even the sets as well. Lots of great parts and interesting designs to bring over into whatever else I feel like building. However, I think the first wave or two were not very good at all. Skeletons driving monster trucks and snake-themed wrecking balls weren't very appealing (at least from an adult perspective). From a kid's perspective, they might have been great fun. Regardless, that's what Nexo Knights seems like so far, based on these early scans. It feels like the first couple of Ninjago waves. The chain chomp podracer thing, the castle moving on treads... feels kind of gimmicky.

I do like the idea of the different knights, though, with different armor and weapon designs, etc. Those could be really cool to add to an existing kingdom.

I am still on the fence on this one because I wanted to get back to castle but I am also glad that it is not the classic castle that everyone is waiting for because that buys me time to focus more on other action themes and collect my backlogs since my darkages.... but this theme is shaping up to be a melting pot of different genres like castle - space - action - adventure... so I might end up collecting the minifigs and part out the sets for my action/adventure MOCs.

What they already released in the 2005–2006 Vikings line is mostly irrelevant since that was a decade ago, and kids today wouldn't have had an opportunity to find any of those sets on store shelves. If they wanted to stick with the whole mythology-inspired fantasy monsters idea, we'd surely get new sets of Jörmungandr, Fenrir, and some of the iconic dragons, just as we inevitably get a new Tyrannosaurus Rex, new raptors, and a new pterodactyl in any new Dino theme.

I realize that, but I was talking about the long-term sustainability of such a theme. After the first wave or two, it'd just peter out.

Anyway, I'm also one of the people who likes both KKII and Nexo Knights.

I think I'm seeing a pattern here. Ninjago, a whole different take on a Ninja theme came out in 2011. Nexo Knights, a whole different take on a castle theme coming out in 2016. 2021, a whole new take on a western theme.

Not really, tbh, most Classic Castle fans consider the Dragon Knights/ Dungeon knights/ Forestmen and Wolf clan guys as the best era of trully classic castle in terms of variety and interesting faction and number of factions overall not to mention that the Dungeon castle is probably still top 3 if not the best looking classic castle out there in LEGO terms.

Kingdoms are on par with that era but mainly because of the building techniques, but is lacking heavily in terms of faction variety. The fantasy era with dwarves, trolls and so on is again on par with it, but for faction reasons.

For Classic Castle fans, myself included i believe the best LEGO line would be to mix faction variety of fantasy and Dragon knight era and mix in the great building techniques and useful sets like MVR and MMV and Kingdoms line. It would be the jewel of all Classic Castle wishes really.

As A Classic Castle fan i must say that when i consider Castle in LEGO terms i seek for earthly colors, so loads of green, gray, brown and black use, sand use can also factor here..... some additional colors are ok, but mainly these 4 are expected in color variations liek dark and light green etc.

This is also why outside of perhaps shields and some troop looks I will find Nexo Knights dissappointing, this is also the aspect i believe 2013 Castle was better in, but 2013 Castle was bad to me mainly because of another blue vs red and the kinda not on par with Kingdoms design and heraldry, with perhaps the dark wizard exception.
