Vaionaut Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 I also already saw some pictures of the sets (more than the leaked ones). There's a complete castle on giant wheels... who does really want something crazy like this? Ok, you can see it like this: You get a castle. And some wheels as extra parts. But this doesnt really make sense to me... Quote
8BrickMario Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Add me to the list of fans! I love the wacky designs and the bad guys. Quote
kabel Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 It's interesting to observe this devide over the theme across the Atlantic with the Americans being really excited and us Europeans very reluctant to accept this as a Castle Theme (myself included). It sorta serves as further argument for my thesis that Lego designed the theme mainly for the American market thus kicking their European fans into the butt big time. Quote
8BrickMario Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 I think the real problem is that many traditional Castle fans have stayed here even though it's very clear thisis not a Castle theme like they wanted. I don't think it's fair to generalize the U.S./European mrkets that way. Quote
kabel Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 I guess I should mention that I'm not generalizing but merely observing tendencies. And, as a pirate/castle fan I'm just really dissapointed about getting the boot this big! Quote
x105Black Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 After reading all these hate comments I have to say is I'm glad that now Knights Kingdom II won't be the most hated Castle theme ever It still is, as Nexo Knights isn't a Castle theme. Quote
gedren_y Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 (edited) Part of the problem was the expectations that arose from the reporting from a manager that the upcoming theme was similar to Fantasy Era. In certain respects it is, but not in the way most were hoping. Then there is the issue of the non-historical nature of the theme. Some people are unable to divorce the idea of Castle from historical, even fantasy historical. I think the American/European divide on this has more to do with the fact that Europe is filled with actual historical castles. Aside from a few disputed sites, there are no European style fortifications that predate the Age of Exploration in the US. American adults are less likely to be bothered by the idea of a castle with technology because we have less exposure to castles in their historical context. I type adults because children have a less defined sense of the world, so I doubt the target audience for the theme's media is very geographic in nature. I personally don't understand the hang-up on TLG's designs. They have always paled in comparison to what I wanted to build, so I don't concern myself with the intent of a set. I rarely see the attendant media, therefore it's quite easy to ignore. I regularly buy across the various themes for parts. I also have no compunction regarding the dismantling of minifigs, so even the overly colored minifigs of KKII were no problem to remedy. Edited September 30, 2015 by gedren_y Quote
BrickTamland Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 I guess I should mention that I'm not generalizing but merely observing tendencies. And, as a pirate/castle fan I'm just really dissapointed about getting the boot this big! If I were to guess it seems like the people who are most optimistic about this line aren't hung up on the fact it's not the historic castle we want. I'd much rather have more middle earth sets with a earth toned medieval civilian-centric line coming in a close second, but the hobbit (or 2013 castle for that matter) sets didn't really leave the impression that sales were good enough to justify a big bang line. It's partially preference, but just ignoring visual motif there are some parts incoming that look great in these sets, for my taste. But the farther from castle this gets the better right? So lego can have a more historical and earth toned line that doesn't compete. Quote
thetang22 Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Americans being really excited and us Europeans very reluctant to accept this as a Castle Theme Hmm...I suppose I'm an exception. I'm from the US, and I'd prefer a traditional Castle theme. Are you basing this purely off of the post in this thread, and whether or not someone has a location labeled on their profile? I'd say that's likely an inaccurate measure for making a generalization. Quote
DuckBricks Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 (edited) I think I am the only person on here looking forward to this theme. As a fan of Ninjago and Bionicle, I am very, very hyped for this theme... I still think that this belongs in the A&A forum to be more well-received, but I won't continue to talk about that... Dr.Cogg Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 (edited) I'm a fan of many different themes (Ninjago, marvel, DC,ect..) and I will most likely buy a few Nexo Knights sets (Jestro and some of the other villains), but the main reason I don't consider this theme Castle, is the technology, because theses Knights you can't mix with fantasy or regular knights. Take the moving castle for example, at first I was going to say it was a castle on treads, but then I realized, its not, because the thing looks like it supposed to be made out of steel plates, which means its actually a tank shaped like a castle, don't get me wrong, some of the things in Nexo Knights are cool like Jestro, Fortrex and the Knights, but the knights are just knights in name only, it would be like Master Chief fighting along side the 300 Spartans, because he's called a Spartan. P.S. I'm American Edited September 30, 2015 by Dr.Cogg Quote

Itaria No Shintaku Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 I think I will buy parts from lego shops / bricklink, but not the sets (or, maybe the sets, if I find them at 50% discount). Quote
ZORK64 Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 (edited) As for this "European vs. American" thing I'd like to mention that I'm German, and yet, I am super-excited for Nexo Knights. The last time that a LEGO theme that is not Constraction caught my interest as much as this was probably the Lord of the Rings line. And even while I haven't seen the actual set yet, a Tank Castle (because the whole "castle on wheels" thing sounds like a friggin' Tank Casle to me) sounds like the most hilariously badass way of creating a huge mobile base. It's got treads, actually. ;) And guns. So yeah. Tank Castle is pretty accurate. That's probably the set I'm most excited for. Even better that it contains that orange Bull Knight. Quote
gedren_y Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 The art image has what I'm sure is the "Tank Castle", and it uses the thick link treads instead of the rubber faux treads. I like this because those treads are good for the interior structure of round towers. Quote

The_Cook Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 (edited) What would be interesting would be to know TLG internal mapping of what they think the Nexo Knights are? Is it the next Ninjago, Chima or is it an instance of the "evergreen" Castle/Pirates loop that they go around every few years? If it's the Chima successor (which the pre-release product codes indicate it is) then there may well be a chance for an "evergreen" Castle to exist alongside at a later date. Mark Stfford would know, but probably isn't allowed to comment as it could divulge future business plans. Personally I'm fairly non-plussed by the range. I'll look at it again once the part listings are published and perhaps consider which ones to partake of as I have done with the Ninjago and Chima sets. This all reminds me of the Elves speculation and the subsequent horror from the assembled Historic Fourm when it turned out to be Minidolls. Again, Minidolls aside, Elves has been a good series and I've been actively buying the sets for parts and for fun. It only seems to be the history forum that gets this worked up about new sets, I done feel the same angst from the other forums. I guess Town is Town and a new Adventure theme will be a new and unique Adventure theme; there's not the same weight of history (sic) as there is with Castle. Edited October 1, 2015 by The_Cook Quote

I agree with you, and hope you are right. This could be the only way to have a "soon" release of a classical Caslte theme. But I tend to think this will not be next year we'll see Castle theme. I am not found of this new Nexo Knights theme btw, so I'm not sure I'll buy some, it will depend of the part lists of course. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 (edited) An official picture has surfaced (even though it's the same as the one on the cover of the leaked catalogue): http://brickset.com/...o-knights-image Looks wacky and quite bonkers to me, in other words awesome Edited October 1, 2015 by Lego-Freak Quote
gedren_y Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 (edited) The finished image, though larger with more of the actual scene has some added effects that obscure more of the Fortrex. The outer edge of the image shows part of what looks like the outer wall of the castle from the background of the preliminary sets image. I will be very happy if Fortrex is only part of the larger castle, which we could get at a later date. It appears that the creature that faces Clay's vehicle in the preliminary sets image may simply have the wrong helmet. Either that, or the big-fig(?) wasn't ready for the shot. Kraby Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Nice to see the full thing. Big lava monster in the top right corner looks interesting. Plus, some parts from him might help me build a balrog. Can't wait to get official images.Bull knight especially, he looks awesome on that art, but I fear he might in fact look really odd with minifig legs and such big arms / torso. Quote
