Dannylonglegs Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 There are three. The goofy one that's plain red in one of the sets, and the magma-belly and a really wicked-looking one both in Fortrex. Do you know which set? I didn't see any in the Jestro set which is where I most expected to see them. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote
DraikNova Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 After taking a closer look at Jestro's other minions, I'm absolutely in love with all the new weapons and armor they have. That piece that looks like someone tore a piece of granite in the general shape of Ninjago's blade piece looks awesome (and the idea of a spidery monster using them as legs sounds intriguing), as does the helmet that fig is wearing. And the guy next to him is a masterpiece of demonic design style, like a fissure opening up directly to a magma flow. That figure is one I have to get like ten of to stock my Army of Armok. Then there's the King's sword, which is very beautiful and sleek-looking. Plus those little ball monsters (which the things drawing the Chaos Chariot are probably either an uber version of or the adult version of) are really, really cute. The fact that Jestro decided to call his crushing death crusher of death "Jestro's Evil Mobile". Really speaks volumes about how bad his jokes must have been when he was a normal jester. I wonder what that little target in the Fortrex is for. Quote
x105Black Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 I wonder what that little target in the Fortrex is for. Target practice, no doubt. Quote
BrickFit26 Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Check out my fantastic photoshopping skills! I sure hope we get this hat in a later set. Too cool! I hope we get it in a later set also. Quote
DraikNova Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 (edited) I think the young girl is holding a gaming device (or a Game Boy, if you're old like me). Good god, the mental image of how that might be depicted in the show is hilarious. The stereotypical snotty princess...who won't look up from her gaming console. I've just noticed the king's full armor. That looks remarkably cool, actually. I like azure as a detail color a lot, and it provides the necessary contrast for a primarily golden minifigure quite well. And the Ultimates apparently have robot arms attached to their backs. I'm going to be really excited to see how they do that. Edited October 8, 2015 by DraikNova Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Ok, just looked back at the original list of set names and it appears that there is an Ultimate Macy. Thank goodness. Also, the black molten lava guy appears in "Moltor's Lava Launcher" meaning his name is Moltor. The cool armored guy standing next to him also appears in the Clay's blade cruiser. He might also appear in the Chaos Catapult (Cheapest set), Making him a very good army builder. I love his face from what I can see of it. Very simple. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote
Aanchir Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 (edited) I am not looking for total confirmation, but more just trying to gauge whether Lego would produce a castle set alongside Nexo Knights. I know people who aren't fans of this theme are getting stomped out of this thread, but it is important for there to be open discussion about what this theme gets right and doesn't get right (IMO). If this theme was coming out simultaneously with castle sets, I doubt any exclusively castle fan would care about what Nexo Knights is doing. I think most would admit that this theme is getting a lot more care and attention given to it than the last castle line—even just the new heraldry (as opposed to rehashes of lions and dragons) and number of sets is enough to show that. I mean, LEGO Castle and The Lord of the Rings coexisted. So did LEGO Ninjago and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In fairness, both of those are examples where one theme was licensed and another was non-licensed. But overall I don't think LEGO strictly limits themselves to one theme per category, especially if they can count on one or both of those themes being strong enough that a competing theme won't be a problem. Since you quoted me, I'll address this directly. I don't recall using the word "childish". But not because I don't agree with it in principle. To me, the term is a way to express "goofy, unconventional, unsophisticated, etc.". I think the word "childish" is not the best term simply because we are talking about toys here, and they are childish by their very nature, so we can agree to some degree on that one. That said, from an aesthetic standpoint, some sets/themes are more sophisticated (read: appeal more to adult design sensibilites) than others. It is my subjective opinion that this theme is unsophisticated in that way. I never said you used the word "childish". But it was you who replied to a theme where I argued against calling Nexo Knights "childish" saying you disagreed with my position. So it sounded to me like you were trying to defend the use of that word to describe Nexo Knights. Sorry if I misread that. I don't think there is any strict definition for what is "sophisticated" or what are "adult design sensibilities". That depends entirely on which adult you're asking. When I look at Nexo Knights, I see a lot of sophisticated building techniques — the brick-built "face" and intricate hinged wheels of Jestro's chariot, for instance. These are the kinds of techniques I've also admired both functionally and aesthetically in vehicles from other themes like Ninjago and Legends of Chima. These kinds of techniques, which use slopes and hinges extensively to create a more complicated shape than could be achieved with basic bricks, are part of what bumps up the age range for these sets. By contrast, typical LEGO City or Castle vehicles and buildings tend to be constructed with traditional studs-on-top building on a rectangular grid, resulting in much more ordinary shapes. Ironically, the things many AFOLs consider "childish" are only such because they aren't familiar from those AFOLs' actual childhood experiences. I've never seen 497 or 375 called childish, despite their building techniques, functions, and overall shape being utterly simplistic by today's standards. Yet the much more complex and detailed 70003 and 70010 are regularly called "childish". Not because they're less sophisticated in any way, but simply because they're less conventional. Vorkosigan Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 IGN has high resolution images of the two sets: http://oyster.ignimgs.com/wordpress/stg.ign.com/2015/10/70317_The-Fortrex.jpg http://oyster.ignimgs.com/wordpress/stg.ign.com/2015/10/70316_Jestros-Evil-Mobile.jpg Quote
fred67 Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 WOW! Think of all the money I'm going to save not buying these! Awesome! Quote
DaleDVM Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 I have sat silently by until the official announcement which came today. Here is a link to photos of a pair of the official sets. http://lego.gizmodo....egos-1735385185 I have looked them over closely. The new pyramid piece is very interesting and when it comes out in other colors I am sure I will want some. The new book is interesting but looks less like a book than the past version. It is nice this book is at least designed to be held by a minifig. Most of the minifigs have prints that are useless to historic builders. However a couple may be interesting, the queen and maybe the king for instance. The villains and monsters in particular can be very useful for fantasy castle folks. I think the small logos in the armor may be printed onto 1x1 tiles and put onto the armor from the inside? Similar to the one on the little robot in the below photo. Those 1x1 tiles might be nice. The same logos on the shields, flags, banners, etc. may also be useful to me. The king's sword looks interesting too. However, the shields themselves appear to be very bulky. they may be more useful for larger creatures like fantasy era trolls. Just not sure about them. Other than a few parts and figs here and there, this theme is a disappointment to this castle fan. For those that are into this, enjoy. To be honest, although I hate where this went, I think kids may very well like this theme. If so castle is likely dead for quite a while. I know we are not supposed to mention the thread moving but... When this gets moved to the action forum can we open another thread for us castle fans to discuss the future or lack thereof. I need a shoulder to cry upon! Quote
1974 Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 It's not about the building techniques. It's the theme and figs. CS is serious biz, animals on dope is not Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 I wonder if TLG will add a chainsaw wielding knight name Ash later . Quote
DaleDVM Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 It took me 15 minutes to type my post and that darn Hinckley posted everything. I will get you Mark! What I want to know is what Mr. Larson thinks of these sets? Quote
gedren_y Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Fortrex has rubber stud pieces! Or possibly technic half-pegs?! Quote
Gadzooks Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 I don't know if this has ben mentioned yet, but I feel like this is Lego Universe Sentinels 2.0, which I am very excited for. had little interest in this them up until this point.... Lego stop making me want all themes! Felt this the moment I saw the catalog art. The translucent orange squares everywhere also remind me of Assembly. Quote
BrickJagger Posted October 8, 2015 Author Posted October 8, 2015 *Checks email* *253 new replies* Good to see that NYCC was covered in Nexo stuff! Looks like they are trying to push this theme even more than Chima and Ninjago. Fortrex and the Evil Mobile ( ) look great, although I don't like how there are only three figs for 60 bucks in the latter, although one is huge and another is Jestro. Can I get a list of names for each baddie? How many are there, six? TV show looks a lot better than Chima's, that's for sure. King and Queen are great, and we actually get regular soldiers. Just noticed that the teaser videos show the Nexo Knights embarrassing Classic Castle knights in various tasks. In other words, Lego knows full well that some of you hate this theme, and they couldn't care less. Quote
Umbra-Manis Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 I wonder if nabii can tell us about these and their design process now. Quote
Admiral Khan Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Well this was exactly what I was afraid of... I suppose my wallet will stay in the pant pocket for the tenure of this theme. Quote
Takanuinuva Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Okay, Scottish? I haven't seen the videos, but that makes me like Jestro even more. I'm only in it for the sets, though. I'm not surprised that the show isn't fantastic. Although it shouldn't be lazy just 'cause it's a kids' show. Ultimate Lavaria will apparently have several of them as her legs. That's good to know. Any idea what its price will be? Quote
Dhivael Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 These are... ugly. Easy to pass, although it is nice to see nods to the Classic Castle Black Falcons, Black Knights, and Wolfpack in the stylized symbols. At least as a castle fan, I can save my money for other enterprises next year. Quote
KotZ Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Yeah, I'm gonna pass on these sets unless they're on a massive discount. I do like the armor and minifigures though. Quote
Lyichir Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 It's not about the building techniques. It's the theme and figs. CS is serious biz, animals on dope is not Yup, when I look at a bunch of smiley-face men in pajamas, "serious business" is the first thing on my mind. Contrast that with a story of a fantasy world filled with anthropomorphic creatures, where friends are divided against one another in a war for scarce resources. That's kiddy stuff. See? It's all a matter of perception. Quote
gedren_y Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 This theme gives me stuff for my GOH, and also makes me want to get some sci-fi builds done. Those Fortrex pieces make me think of some space habitats. So many ideas. Quote
