dzidek1983 Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 So we have a black falcon, a bull knight, a red dragon and a wolfpack guy It's nice they were able to come up with at least one new logo idea with the white horse. Quote
Schreeuwwitje Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Meh this is most definately not for me... I do get that this would be fun for the kids! Quote
x105Black Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 (edited) Just noticed that the teaser videos show the Nexo Knights embarrassing Classic Castle knights in various tasks. In other words, Lego knows full well that some of you hate this theme, and they couldn't care less. I didn't think of it as embarrassing so much as showing off how their tech is advanced. And I don't think it has anything to do with the Castle fans that hate this theme. You'll notice they did this to other characters as well, not just classic Castle knights. However, viewing these videos showed me a few more things. They're showing a new skirt piece here for Macy in her princess gown: The outfit is a bit futuristic, but possibly still useful. I wonder if we will be seeing this type of skirt in the future, or this version of Macy in a future set. Here's this guy again, this time as an archer: I like this guy, and wonder if he's a recurring character on the show. If so, maybe we'll see a set with him in the future. He looks a bit more like the Robin Hood figure a lot of people were hoping for, albeit slightly futuristic with that bright blue color and line pattern. Still, he's one of the better looking characters so far. Then there's this guy: That's a nice design that could be very useful for Castle themed building. I hope we see more of these civilian type characters, as they have a lot more potential for me than any of the sci-fi knights. building techniques, functions, and overall shape This is not what makes them childish. It's the design aesthetic. It's the personality and tone. And yes, there were some more childish, unsophisticated sets in Castle (and definitely in Space) over the years. As a whole, however, I feel that Nexo Knights is considerably more childish, thematically, than most Caslte waves. Fair enough. I don't have any problems with the building techniques, I just can't get over castles with tank treads, flying rocket "horses" and rocket sled shields. It has less to do with the bricks and more to do with the concept. Basically this. The concept itself is what's more childish. And about the idea that this theme is or isn't a Castle theme: In my opinion, this screenshot from the LEGO website is as close as we can get to an official statement on the matter, which is that they are not the same. It also highlights the glaring differences between the concepts, which are only superficially similar. I'm hoping that by keeping the Castle theme there, we can expect an actual Castle theme sometime in the near future. That gives me a lot of hope. Then again, they only show sets from the 2013 wave, and neither Castle nor Nexo Knights appear on their shopping site. Either way, I'm holding out hope that they will release a good Castle wave sometime soon, maybe 2017, since it will have been 4 years since the last one in 2013. bungeshea Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 (edited) The two different images on LEGO.com don't mean that they're not both 'Castle' themes; they simply mean that they are different themes. Knight's Kingdom and the 2013 Castle theme each had different images as well, though I'm sure we are in agreement that they are both 'castle' themes. Edited October 9, 2015 by bungeshea Quote
x105Black Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 I suppose I was hopeful for them to be different, since they clearly are. I thought that the inclusion of 2013 Castle theme, which is now gone, meant that there was a clear differentiation between them. Quote
gedren_y Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 I believe it has more to do with having the existing material, including games, kept available while the new theme is being rolled out. Quote
ZCerberus Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Merg. Obsessed with were it belongs we are. Movement commenced. Quote
CM4Sci Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Alright, were in Action Themes! Thanks ZCerberus! Does anyone think we'll see something more today? I think today's reserved for a Angry Birds. Quote
ZCerberus Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 I think you have plenty of "old" to chew on already. Jestro evil jester pulled catapult demon monster truck is by far the coolest thing in the theme. Everything else- meh- I could take it or leave it. Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Ah. How relieving! So, yeah, I totally agree that this theme seems to be LU derived in a major way. I never played that game, but I see the influence. I love those civilians! And the princess dress makes me very hopeful for the future!... I need to change my CMF guessing game answer real quick... ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote
Dorayaki Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 (edited) Haven't got to remember all characters and story details so some may be wrong, here's my first impression: There are many new cool items and some of the combinations of classic castle and combat machines. The castle tank is something I've wanted. My minor concern is that Nexo would be too similiar with Ninjago in its story how they portray the main characters, overuse technologies, etc. Hopefully it can turn out as different as possible. I also worry that LEGO is not giving a real damn to the continuation of Elves. There are obviously more characters and storytellings in the first wave of Nexo than we had in Elves 2015. Hopefully Elves can also go bigger in 2016 so that both can go together. I suppose I was hopeful for them to be different, since they clearly are. I thought that the inclusion of 2013 Castle theme, which is now gone, meant that there was a clear differentiation between them. Well so hopefully they could leave some room for regular Castle things based on the storyline, like the temple of Airjitzu. I love the parallels in the art style between this and LU. Yes, that basically says LU could be made. Edited October 9, 2015 by Dorayaki Quote
x105Black Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 It would be nice to see official reveals of the rest of this theme, rather than looking at the poor leaked catalog images. But I'm very happy with the reveal so far. They've shown us a lot of stuff. And I'm happy to see this topic where it belongs. Quote
Mandate Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 My minor concern is that Nexo would be too similiar with Ninjago in its story how they portray the main characters, overuse technologies, etc. Hopefully it can turn out as different as possible. Overuse of technology? Maybe in Rebooted, but anywhere else in the show anything that isn't the Destiny's Bounty is seen for only five seconds. I also worry that LEGO is not giving a real damn to the continuation of Elves. There are obviously more characters and storytellings in the first wave of Nexo than we had in Elves 2015. Hopefully Elves can also go bigger in 2016 so that both can go together. Elves is not meant to be a big bang theme like Nexo Knights is. LEGO was not expecting Elves to be a runawary success like NINJAGO or BIONICLE, and that's the difference between the marketing budget of Elves and Nexo Knights. Well so hopefully they could leave some room for regular Castle things based on the storyline, like the temple of Airjitzu. Probably not. NINJAGO's roots were in oriental Japanese structures and mythos, and it continued that trend each year with notable sets such as the Fire Temple, Dojo of Spinjitzu, Destiny's Bounty, the Temple of Light, the Battle of (for?) Ninjago City and the Temple of Airjitzu. Some of them had technological features, but none of them were overwhelmed by technology. The Destiny's Bounty can still pass for an oriental ship, whereas the Fortrex cannot pass for a simple castle. Sorry to burst your bubble, but it probably isn't going to happen. Quote

The high-tech Nexo Knights are unlikely to have medieval styled buildings. Quote
Kraby Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 My only fear is getting mostly vehicles. Is first wave only constituted of vehicles? - Fortrex might be a bit of a stretch, but is still technically a vehicle - Excluding "ultimate" sets - Except maybe library? I do hope that we will get nice locations further down the line. Quote
Space Police XVIII Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 This is turning out pretty awesome. I'm definitely getting the tank-castle. Neat design, tons of parts I want, and TANK CASTLE. Axe knight's been skipping leg days. That bothers me more than it should. The little 1x1 pyramid piece is neat, promising, but all I can think is, hooray, a cheese wedge that'll split in four directions. Quote
8BrickMario Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 I like that the Book of Monsters is considered to be its own character. But if the face on the cover is animated, that ruins the whole idea for me. Quote
ZCerberus Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Hey- shouldn't this be in Historic themes? Quote
just2good Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Hey- shouldn't this be in Historic themes? Honestly, it's as fitting there as Ninjago is in my opinion. I think its place is here. Quote

Nexo's structure is still very similiar with LEGO's past commercial marketing ways while Elves is still original to LEGO, so I understand that LEGO could do more analysis and predictions for Nexo and less for Elves. But IMO, despite we might not really see armed combat vehicles running around Elvendale, I think Elves is able to pull out a bigger character roster and some battles with special weapons and new dragons in physical sets, alongwith a bigger storytelling as Ninjago season 1. So this should depend on how LEGO treat it. I do think there are nice building style and artworks in the cartoon trailer. The theme is "buildings with technological supports". Yeah. it's not traditional Caslte designs old fans might expect, but would like to see some of them become real sets. Edited October 9, 2015 by Dorayaki Quote
8BrickMario Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 I'm really liking these robots. They're sort of the good-guy version of The LEGO Movie's robots. The chef's face is perfect. Quote

So this should depend on how LEGO treat it. No. By "new dragons" do you mean the baby ones, or full-scale ones? I don't think we'll see full-scale dragons outside of NINJAGO for a while, seeing as they're still a central asset to the line and it could cause brand confusion/sales cannibalism (admittedly not on a huge scale, but it'll probably be a concern for LEGO anyway). There's a multitude of dragons in NINJAGO that have not been made in set form... sorry, it's gonna be a while before Elves gets any. Unfortunately, what would be "best" for a line isn't always actually going to be the best for it. If LEGO has enough confidence in Elves, they'll give it a greater media presence. Similarly, if Nexo Knights turns out to be a flop (which I very much so doubt), it's either going to be canned, given a much smaller budget, or at worst join Galidor in the incinerator room. Quote

Rhodes81 Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Obviously not what traditional castle fans were hoping for, but this line looks absolutely fantastic for Sci-fi and Star Wars mocers and maybe at least a few parts will be useful for Castle. Most castle fans are strictly mocers anyway, so it's the pieces that matter, not the sets. Quote
