Kwatchi Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 (edited) I have to tip my hat to Lego marketing team. The 'got to get them all' collecting instinct is nicely tied into the ancillary products with those shields. "Clever girl" /wallet gets eaten Btw, does anyone know how you can set it up to automatically ignore someone's posts on this forum? Edited November 10, 2015 by Kwatchi Quote

Lind Whisperer Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 That seems to be most peoples experience with NK XD Not mine. I'll probably get a couple of them, but the world isn't as worth investing in as Ninjago's was. Ninjago, even during its first year, had a definite storyline that made sense. This...this is basically(and literally*) a LEGO fan mashup of two different themes, released "because it looks cool". It's flashy, but I don't like the marketing, and the story does not interest me enough to invest beyond a few purchases for parts.*Spastle. Quote

When Ninjago first debuted, it experienced a lot of the same criticism. Sure, there were traditional ninja elements, but what the heck was up with those high-tech motorbikes and monster trucks that the skeletons were using? Only once the story actually got going did we have some much-needed context for what at first looked like a very silly mash-up of themes that was done "because it looked cool". Nexo Knights could do the same thing. The story literally hasn't even started, and as such it's really much too early to make any judgements. For my part, I've loved what I've seen of the sets and marketing so far—but if the story falls flat for me (as Chima's ended up doing), it's unlikely that I'll collect the theme with any sort of regularity. By contrast, you might not like the marketing so far, but the real meat of the story (or in-depth reviews of the sets) might yet win you over. Quote

Rayskull Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Uh this is way better Ninjango's first year already. By all means leave them on the shelf. Definitely more for us :D Quote

I like the Chef-Bot. Any robot with a moustache is a cool robot. How does it grow a moustache anyway? Quote

I did end up liking Atlantis.Nexo Knights could do the same thing. The story literally hasn't even started, and as such it's really much too early to make any judgements. By contrast, you might not like the marketing so far, but the real meat of the storyThe thing is, Ninjago, Atlantis, and Chima all took their story seriously. Sure, there were joking bits, sure there was comic relief - but there was a real story to back them, and it showed in the advertisements. Here, all I'm seeing the advertising media say is, "Hey, look at our totally radical knights, and their craaaaaaazy adventures! LOL, isn't this theme totally craaaaazy, and totally raaaaaad?" It could just be me, I suppose, and maybe they'll turn a 180 - but so far, based on what I have seen, and even taking into account past themes... (or in-depth reviews of the sets) might yet win you over. I buy solely based on story, or by parts. Very, very rarely do I buy a set just based on its build. Also, let's not pretend that Ninjago's first year story was any more riveting than Nexo's...... Actually, Ninjago's story did promise to be, and bids fair to be more riveting than Nexo's. Nexo's is very loose, and silly, without anything solid to it, whereas Ninjago's story, although it did have elements of comic relief, had a solid core. Uh this is way better Ninjango's first year already. By all means leave them on the shelf. Definitely more for us :D *Ninjago Ironically, all of the members that know the answer to this have blocked you and cannot see this desperate plea for help. Squire-Bots are weird. Chef-Bots are cool. How does it grow a moustache anyway? The same way Wreck-Gar does. Quote
jonwil Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Do we know from the information available whether this theme is based around magic or around science? I know there was a debate earlier about that but I dont want to wade through 150+ pages to find out if it was resolved or not... Quote
dannallcorn Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Do we know from the information available whether this theme is based around magic or around science? I know there was a debate earlier about that but I dont want to wade through 150+ pages to find out if it was resolved or not... Its a mix of the two lots of science tech but also magic in the form of the book of monsters and the "digital" knight upgrades are magic-esque but with the computerised sciency bit....it comes from a techno wizard so that gives some idea. dannallcorn Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 There is a new trailer on the teaser site called Heroes wanted. It shows off Jestros demon hoards plus you get to see the Knights suit up :) Quote

The villains are using traditional dark magic, while the heroes are using it to power their technology. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 I would go for one of my favourite not-words: Magitech. Spellscience, MageTek and other staples of Science Fantasy work too. Quote
Takanuinuva Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 (edited) There is a new trailer on the teaser site called Heroes wanted. It shows off Jestros demon hoards plus you get to see the Knights suit up :) I think I spotted another female baddie. She's wearing a knight lower visor and has Aurra Sing hair. You can see her around 0:10 in the video. Edit: Scratch that the figure has a male torso design. Still might be a new figure we haven't see though. Edited November 11, 2015 by Takanuinuva Quote
ChristopheQ Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 (edited) Thank you Takanuinuva, Very probable indeed, wawe 2 will be super !! I love his brutal prehistoric middle age look ! So nice for us they are making so much lieutenants rather than a few generic soldiers (and smart from them, even in a bad set with a knight I will have already in triple by this time, I will still buy it...) jonwil Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Would it be wrong to label Nexo Knights as "cyberpunk"? Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Probably, because cyberpunk is set more in the future or a post apocalyptic setting, where as this is supposed to be in the dark ages, kinda of like Star Wars "A long time ago in a galaxy far away". Quote
ChristopheQ Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Would it be wrong to label Nexo Knights as "cyberpunk"? "Cyberpunk features advanced technology and science, such as information technology and cybernetics, coupled with a degree of breakdown or radical change in the social order" So yes to cyber but not to punk I would say Cyberfantasy ? fantasy referring to the use of magic, generally in a medievalist form... Dannylonglegs Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 In regards to Genre, if you want to be more specific than "Sci-fi Fantasy" I think Peppermint M is spot on. I would go for one of my favourite not-words: Magitech. Spellscience, MageTek and other staples of Science Fantasy work too. I refer you to the Magitek article on the great reliever of the burden of time. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote
x105Black Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 It's cyber-castle, as called by an actual LEGO employee who worked on the sets. Quote
Actor Builder Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Oh boy! Are we going to start a new subforum called Cyber-Castle-Sci-Fantasy-Tech-Magic-Punk Themes? That way all the threads concerning confusing genres can go there and the people that don't care what the theme is labeled as can ignore it entirely! I jest. I look forward to seeing if the books parts will be available on Bricks N' Pieces, though... Quote

Maybe he's the general, considering where he's standing? So now we've got 1.Lava Monster with visor/ponytail 2.Whiparella 3.Flama (Who has a tail!) 4.Lava Monster with short legs, spots on pants. Carries the Book of Monsters. 5. Scurrier design 4 6. Scurrier design 5 7. Lava Golem with red skin, horns (Seen at :21 in trailer) 8. Lava Golem with clubs-for-hands, burgundy skin (Seen at :25 in trailer) Do you guys think that we'll get any villagers in future sets? Some of them don't have any tech influence at all.
