Also, all Lotr sets besides Orthanc and all Hobbit sets besides the newest ones are also sold out. It seems that Lego is clearing the way for several new themes next year, as at least nine themes are being discontinued this year (UA, Castle, Chima, Life of George, HF, Lego Movie, Lotr, TNMT, Hobbit) with only four to replace them (Elves, Pirates, Classic, Bionicle). ...Scooby Doo, Jurassic World, Speed Champions... Castle is not discontinued in 2016, nor is TMNT, nor is LoTR as these themes have no releases for 2015. So you count 6 themes discontinued and 7 introduced. I was only looking at the products page and didn't remember to add the themes that weren't there yet. Thanks for pointing that out. I will change my logic to this: Since all three boy oriented fantasy themes are being removed from the site, we should expect a new one in less than a year. . . . The Big Bang Theory, Doctor Who . . . I don't think those count because they are Ideas products and Ideas isn't an icon on the products page. It's possible that Dr. Who could eventually become a full fledged theme, but the Big Bang Theory? No way. Quote
Artifex Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Ideas are not really themes. They are more like stand-alone releases. Pirates is probably a one-wave, maybe two. Same goes for Jurassic World, Scooby Doo, Speed Champions, TMNT... I don't think Simpsons is gonna get more than a big set every year. I believe The Hobbit/LotR are as good as done. I think Minas Tirith is a long shot. If it comes, I hope it's at least as good as Kingdoms Joust or Helm's Deep. Quote
azog Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 If there was another castle line I would want a remake of kingdoms because I bought every set because I thought they were very well put together, but if they do a remake I would love them to put more fantasy figures into it such as a troll, dragon, and even elves. Still the Pirates line gives me hope. I didn't like the torso prints for Castle 2013. But despite how <insert that tiresome argument> AFOLs find the builds, all the Pirates 2015 look great to me. The minifigs are awesome, but the sets are meh at best. The big ship is ok, but it's the ONLY big set in the entire line (I'm not counting the chess set). Even if you gather all the sets together, you won't have an Imperial Trading Post or an Eldorado Fortress. You won't even have an Imperial Outpost! And with the chess set here, it seems that there's not going to be a second wave: Unfortunately, Pirates seems as good as done. Pirates 2015 gives me the creeps not due to the sets themselves, but due to the fact that it makes me afraid of what may happen to a new Castle line. Anything close to Castle 2013 or Pirates 2015 is definitely a disappointment for me. Maybe even a HUGE disappointment. On the other hand, Pirates 2015 makes me hope Lego won't go so far down with a new Castle line. Pirates 2009 was ok, better than 2015, but Kindgoms 2010 (which followed Pirates 2008) was Castle at its best. Lets see. Alea jacta est, I guess. Quote

I'm glad to see Pirates back, but not thrilled with the majority of the sets. I hope Castle is at least up to par with Kingdoms, and a fusion of Kingdoms and FE would take it to the next level. Quote

When I first saw this it seemed like the end of an era to me, but then I remembered a new one is just around the corner. The wait begins........ Quote

DaleDVM Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Being an army builder and MOC builder/displayer. I am not so worried about this year being castle free. I'd say 80% of what I buy is LEGO castle sets and I typically buy dozens of them. So this year will be easier on my wallet. Perhaps I will catch up on some building and sorting. I am only 4 years behind! Last week I finally sorted my Kingdoms sets, 6 King's castles, 6 Mill Village Raids, and 4 Kingdoms Jousts, 6 chess sets, and about 40 of the smaller sets. God I hate sorting! Now if I could just get to my Modular buildings, Prince of Persia, Harry Potter, Castle 2013, Hobbit and LOTR sets that would be great! My garage looks like the back of a LEGO store and I'm running out of room! I am spending some money making a goblin army from the CMFs. Also Bricklink will be getting a lot of attention from me. I will save up some money in 2015 and hope that next year the new line is all we hope for. Quote

While I agree that the bones of those sets are nice, a couple of sets that you can adapt to work does not make it better than a poor year for castle fans. Some degree of consolation maybe, but it's still going to be a long slow year for us. Quote
