While I'm usually excited about printed pieces, this is one of the exceptions. I wouldn't have applied the stickers and would have enjoyed having some blank shields. I'm glad everyone's happy about the shields, but as is typical with this theme, I'm not jazzed.

....Don't worry, there will be unprinted shield pieces in upcoming sets too to satisfy your Castle needs!! ;)

Thanks Mark for confirming that the shields are printed, thus ending a month-long debate. Had me fooled for sure.

I try to not get too far ahead, but I think it's kind of odd that we don't have more summer wave info by now. Sure, we have the set numbers, but usually by now we have rough outlines of a few sets and some other stuff. :look:

For some sets I was planning to wait the wawe 2 info. I need them mostly for minifigs and books, and was afraid they will come back in summer sets. Knowing the shields (and most probably the books then) are printed, I am going to sell some kidneys and buy them all...

 same here!

It could be that some of the official photos are not finalized and use stickers as placeholders for parts that will be printed in the final sets. While we have no shortage of official, non-leaked, non-watermarked images, there have been times in the past when even those don't fully reflect the final set. For instance, this image of the Fortrex is missing the decorations from the shields on the tower (as seen in the box pic), so we know that first pic at least was preliminary.

Ah, good point--that's probably what it is.

regarding the shield, I hope next years, we will get even more different colors for the piece where the print is printed...

more trans-colored (pink, purple etc....), maybe even some gold etc...

by the way I know it would not happen, and maybe for the best (as the print and the trans pieces colors are often choose to maximize the match or the contrast of the shield within a set)

but how cool for the hardcore collectors would it be if they randomize the color of the shield trans-piece within a set. The same print could be in a yellow, green, blue or red trans-piece, and you wouldn't know wich one before to buy the set...

For people who were hoping for the shields to be stickered so that they could have them unprinted, from what I've read it's not THAT hard to remove a print from a part. It may not be "purist", but if you're desperate to have a transparent unprinted shield, brasso should do the trick (and there are probably plenty of other methods, some of which might be even more effective).

Actually sorry I didn't check the exclusives the first time. Target will carry 70324 Merlok’s Library 2.0 - 204-00-1605. The other two aren't in their database. The Ultimates follow the library starting with 70330 Clay - 204-00-1606 etc.

Yay I like this set!

I bet the other are Walmart or toysrus

The Queen set is a TRU exclusive, leaving the King one for Walmart.

Yay!I can finally get the Kings Mech

Not sure what you mean exactly, but it make me think of some kind of NK shield pack similar to these: http://brickset.com/sets/theme-Bionicle/subtheme-Accessories I could see this concept working with multiple other things too...

I suspect that the summer wave will make use of the same new parts from the first wave, but in more desirable colours and with more awesome prints.

Anyway, now the shields turn out to be printed, I feel a desire to collect all the dragons. My favorites are the ice and the fire one, though I must say that the neonish green shield with skull and crossbones included with Ultimate Lavaria looks hella cool as well! (but less useful). :excited: Can hardly wait!

I wonder if the colors of the Nexo Power shields have any significance in the app/story. They remind me a lot of the "battle chips" from MegaMan Battle Network (a series I loved growing up... hmmm... might be part of why Nexo Knights is seeming increasingly irresistable). In addition to "normal" battle chips that affected all enemies equally, there were also Fire, Water, Electric, and Wood elemental battle chips that certain enemies would be weak or resistant to. Maybe the Nexo Power shield colors might also represent "types" of this sort?

O_O hahaha, I want them all too.

It makes collecting shields viable, if they were just stickers who would care.

Collectability isn't a factor for me. I'd much prefer usefulness. With the prints, these have very limited uses. If they were stickers, I would be more likely to seek them out. I hope these shields will be available without prints, and in sets that are much less expensive than the Brick Bank (which uses them as floor tiles).

I may be wrong on this, but wasn't the new shield tile piece also spotted in the new Modular Bank? So there should be unprinted versions out there.

I think the Space MOC'ers will be in heaven with all the trans neon Orange canopy pieces. Ice Planet fans must be thrilled.

I wouldn't have expected you to care about the shields with the Nexo Powers anyway, since those are all transparent — not very useful in medieval MOCs unless you want to lean heavy on the fantasy side of the equation. Some of the other shields that are used merely as decoration might still be stickered. The black one on Jestro's Evil Mobile definitely is in the box pic, as are the blue one on the box of Merlok's Library and the black one on the box of Infernox Captures the Queen. That's not 100% confirmation they won't be stickered in the final set, but it's possible.

Actually, I just noticed that there seems to be an unprinted shield in the Knight's Cycle polybag. Looks to be either Dark Stone Grey or Silver Metallic, both nice basic colors for a wide variety of themes. Would that suit your purposes?

If not, then as I mentioned earlier, removing prints is not that hard and AFOLs have been doing it for a long time.

EDIT: Almost forgot about the unprinted black one from the new Batman v. Superman set with the Batmobile. It seems like this part will see wide use, which makes sense given its versatility.
