Forest Ambush is a great little set, I hope they have some similarly good sets in the next line. Most of the non-minifig parts are fairly useful, and its always good to get more leaves. I just wish the dog was a goat. I may be somewhat biased though since I paid between $5.50 and $8 for each of mine, never the full $12. Sets definitely seem better when you get them cheap.

It is indeed a great little set. I wish I had the chance to get it. Once I saw it on clearance on Amazon. By the time I was back to my computer it was not longer in stock.

I truly hope to get something like this set in the next Castle theme :classic:

My TRU still has some of them in their clearance section, last I checked a few weeks ago. I think they were like 7 or 8 bucks.

I'd love a hardcore Fantasy theme - think Game of Thrones, Malazan book of the Fallen and LotR combined, but that is highly unlikely...

My wishlist:

Ambush at the bridge

  • 2 figs, an elf with sword and an orc/troll
  • 100pcs
  • Arched bridge, with 'collapsing function', some foliage
  • 10$

Treetop outpost

  • Elven outpost
  • Two elfs, an orc/troll and a knight
  • Large central tree, with a catapult and a falling branch
  • ram for the bad guys
  • 210pcs/24$

Mage battle

  • 16x16 diorama type scene
  • Two mage's (hooded, with cloaks, not pointy hat wizards), an orc and two knights
  • Diorama has scorched earth, burnt trees, etc.
  • 'Firebolt' shooter (new spring loaders) concealed in a broken-down wall
  • 480pcs/55$

Knight castle

  • Smaller than usual castle
  • 2 elves, a bad guy mage and three knights
  • you get the drift...

'The Bestiary'

  • Bad guy fort
  • cage's with various creatures
  • big dragon
  • brick-built griffon
  • Recolored eagle for ravens
  • 3 orcs, two bad guy mages, two knights, an elf and a handler

And finally a MMV type set.

Wow, this would be so great! It's nice to see someone thinking outside the box a bit with the griffon and and mages :)

This may be a private prpreference, but I've always wanted a lego raven, in,any size, so that would be great too.

In reply to your Game of Thrones comparison, one of the biggest shames about never seeing any official set based on the series is the fact that the unique styles of armour of the Kingsguard and Lannister soldiers is almost impossible to replicate, so what would be nice if we get another fantasy theme would be uniquely moulded armour for the Knights/warriors/chieftains of each faction, like the Troll armour in the 2006 waves.

What would also be nice is bringing themes from previous waves into a new one, such as the Wolfpack, or even bringing in more mythological elements such as those in Vikings

When I live it's very difficult to get a lot of good deals on Lego. Most local stores are not large enough to have a large stock so most of the times they don't have many old sets to put on clearance or offer with great discounts. So I often gave a look online but if the shop is in another country the shipping costs increase nullify the discount.

I usually buy from Lego shop but we know they don't make a lot of discounts

Anyway sometimes I find a single old set in some small shop with a good discount.

I found a couple of LOTR/The Hobbit sets at interesting prices :classic:

Sure, ask him if the current Pirates theme is a one-wave thing.

Could you ask him when should we expect the official announcement?

I'll ask those when I go (Saturday or Sunday). :classic:

UPDATE: I went and asked your questions. Unfortunately, it seems that the guy I talked to earlier only works in the morning, so I had to talk to the night manager, who appeared to be fairly new, in contrast to the first manager, who has been working at the store for quite some time.

He had no clue about Castle, he only said that it was discontinued to make room for Pirates. He also said that Pirates is only one wave, although a second wave could be made.

The employee who was greeting people at the door (who was listening to our conversation) said that he would bet money on Castle sets next year, and that Lego will be doing this kind of thing in cycles.

All in all, I think that we will have to wait until around July for anything noteworthy.

Nice ideas! Malazan and Game of Thrones are both great books (and TV shows in GoT's case) with very interesting styles. If these were somehow incorporated into a castle line than my wallet would be empty!

I'd like to have sets like that because they are similar to previous Castle waves but are able to differentiate themselves clearly.

This is really great news and I'm still hoping for an UCS Castle. I really like to see what a LEGO designer can do with 4000 pieces or so.

I would love to see a UCS castle! I really hope more castle stuff comes out again. I was not impressed with the current pirates line up...... but how could i be when i own the SES and BSB.

An UCS Castle would be very nice :classic:

Even I am not impressed with the current pirates themes. It seems it is more aimed to younger users who want to experience "the classic era" feeling. I have to say the buildings seem to be a slight improvement of the older ones but it's most likely they are still tiny and cramped places like the old ones :classic:

I agree! The buildings in the sets are very small.

But I really hope more castle themed sets come out next year. I would like to see a nice castle, and I would love if they brought the Forest men or wolf pack back! I think some nice forest men and castle sets would be great. I can only wish!

Recently a rumor popped up that I would like to report here. Apparently, the guy who worked on the Legends of Chima TV show is now working on a new show for Lego. There is also a rumor of a new MMOG revolving around a new theme.

They could be related, although they might not be. In the meantime, I'll just post this here as it falls in line with some things we've heard (And also things I've heard that I can't share).

Could this be for Castle? It can't be Star Wars, City, Ninjago, Bionicle,or Super Heroes, and they all have either a TV show, movie series, or MMOG dedicated to them. The only other possibilities I can think of are Scooby-Doo or an entirely new theme.

Posted

I would LOVE a Castle version of Chima with more animals with better Torsos, no zombified animals and new shields, but I doubt that would happen. I don't think Chima has done well at all.

Posted

Why? If suddenly we were bombed with 14 new sets with 5 new fractions I would squeal!

Where 80 % of the sets are anachronistic and absurdly strange vehicles/aircrafts? No thanks.

Posted

It wouldn't be "Castle" then.

Not by my definition either, but history shows that if its a big TV-based theme, that's what we'll get. Sir Goober's orange Dino-tank vs. Sir Scabola's purple power-mech-helicopter.

No way that works out for us on this forum if that's the route TLG takes with castle.

I don't think the 2 whole previous non-licensed TV show themes is enough of a precedent to say all TV supported themes for the rest of time MUST have mechs and planes.

Posted

There is no guarantee but it is enough of a trend to make me worry. As long we get good prints (torso and shields) and some good parts, I will buy the sets regardless how good the builds are or what silly thing is built.

This is what has kept Chima and Ninjago from being good lines. Some of the figs were decent but the modern/futuristic vehicles were totally unappealing.

While Chima and Ninjago may not be good lines to adult collectors, the kids love the Ninjago. If I remember correctly, Ninjago was going to be retired at least once if not twice, but the desire for it has kept it going. Also if I remeber correctly, Chima was supposed to be a replacement line for Ninjago but didn't get quite the following. This new project could be another attempt to come up with a new line to replace Ninjago (as I'm sure the creative team on that line and show have got to be running out of ideas) and Lego is going to go with what has worked before (and in my opinion they would be crazy not to). So if this new line is going to be something Castle related it will have characters (but hopefully not Rainbow Knights), it will have playsets (which most of the Ninjago and Chima buildings were pretty good for their theme) and it will have vehicles (although these may take on a more steampunk or World of Warcraft look instead of a too futuristic look).

That's just my opinion and speculation. It will probably be close to a year before we get any solid news or prelims on this, so there is no point getting too excited or worked up at this point.

Yes, obviously. But what good does that do us?
