sweetsha Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 For those who want some pics of the book of monsters here are some interesting vilains. Last one is described as he is feared by the book of monsters itself. I'll translate some monsters description if needed. There are clearly two main species of monsters that are shown : water & forest (3 if you count the lava ones we already know) We'll see if one kind will end in final products If you like the show, I recommand you to buy the book - lovely artworks and humour & jokes for each page (well jokes aimed for kids, don't expect more) Quote
DraikNova Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 (edited) Damn do I hope we get these. Monstrox seems like he'll be the "final gambit" sort of villain for this year's show, like Ninjago had the Great Devourer, Preeminent and the Overlord. And that fishbowl for the black knight guy/girl is so cute. If we get an aquatic wave, I'd love to see a new fishbowl-print head and a new leg piece for that one. And that crystal-themed golem. And a spear made out of flies. A spear made of flies. Edited February 10, 2016 by DraikNova Quote
Kraby Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 Those are fantastic designs and would make splendid minifigs. However, I wonder how this plants / water theme would adjust to get "sci-fi / techy" vehicles and locations, to fit in the Nexo Knights world, and I must admit I really don't know what they could come up with. Fire / lava can easily deviate from the classic fantasy feel, and those two first wave proved it with amazing lava-techy vehicles and builds, but I feel like plants / water will be much harder to get right. DraikNova Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 (edited) For plants, just focus more on monsters made from wood and swamp slime (maybe strangler vines warped into leech-like monsters?). For water, imagine vehicles created from coral and water that inexplicably is solid yet not ice. My guess is that we'll see one of these in 2017 and the other in 2018 Edited February 10, 2016 by DraikNova Quote
benderisgreat Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 These monsters look amazing, they kinda give us idea what to expect in coming waves of sets. Plant monsters look the best in my opinion. And Monstrox looks like a volcano! Hmm, maybe he has something to do with Jestro Volcano Base? Quote
ChristopheQ Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 thank you very much sweetsha. That's a lot of plant design... maybe too much... I hope it's not a faction they worked on but reject... For the plant vehicles, they could easely make tree-mech, wooden carts etc... brown and green colors, spikes, catapult... Quote
ChristopheQ Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 a nice MOC very NK inspired, with a nice portal https://www.flickr.com/photos/128819970@N06/24777151271/in/photostream/ Quote
8BrickMario Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 I adore the grape-vampire lady! She'd be great for Dionysus-related things. Maybe a more monstrous take on the Maenads? Quote
ChristopheQ Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 (edited) I adore the grape-vampire lady! She'd be great for Dionysus-related things. Maybe a more monstrous take on the Maenads? more a black-berry no ? with the spikes... the color variation within these guys is huge by the way, if lego make them, and if they keep all this colors, it would be such pretty and original factions Edited February 10, 2016 by ChristopheQ Quote
Amazing Bricks Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 Those tree guys are some of the best minifigures i've ever seen. Monstrox has the big villain look, interested in how they would make him physically. Quote
x105Black Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 So it seems that this guy is indeed water-based: That's too bad, but he looks awesome anyways. I'd definitely make use of his helmet, and the armor is nice too. Thanks for the pictures, I'd be interested to see more. It looks like they're going for "monsters" as enemies, so I wouldn't expect straight trolls or goblins here. Quote
CM4Sci Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 A lot of these new characters seem to be using the ghost tail piece, I don't really like that. A lot of these new characters also seem way too overdetailed but that's probably just.. the art. If we get these figures I hope they're a lot more cartoony and easier to look at. Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 (edited) The 2 plant girls use ghost legs as vines and the black knight has the octopus lower half, I'm liking their designs, also I'm wonder if the Nexo Knights will be going underwater for one of the waves. P.S.I think this guy would just be a scurrier painted like a tree and I think this is the hair piece for grape girl Edited February 10, 2016 by Dr.Cogg Quote
FortNerd Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 Damn, if those plant monsters are released I might be interested in this theme. Quote
Kalhiki Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 (edited) First of all, I need this book. Second of all, wow! Look at that art! Look at those characters! I fully expect the next two years of NK to be plant and water themes. These minifigs are going to be sweet. Love that we're basically getting an art book. I love art books. By the way, Monstrox has the Book of Monster's face. Hmmmm... Edited February 10, 2016 by Kalhiki Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 (edited) Here's the sea guy unmasked and other monsters Also, according to someone who has the book, the plant monsters and underwater monsters come out at the same time, because the BoM has the hiccups. The difficulty involved in LEGO making two different enemy types at the same time reduces my hope that they'll release these. Edited February 10, 2016 by DraikNova Quote

Lyichir Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 You could use the water tail piece for a lady of the lake perhaps? The difficulty involved in LEGO making two different enemy types at the same time reduces my hope that they'll release these. Showing up at the same time in the story doesn't necessarily preclude them coming out at different times in the sets. In the second year of Ninjago, the Venomari and Constrictai were mostly relegated to the summer wave despite showing up comparatively early in that year's season of the TV show. If the book actually has story context for these monsters appearing (as opposed to them just being monsters the Book of Monsters hypothetically COULD create), I'd say their chances of appearing in sets are greater than I'd given them credit for. It's still far from a sure thing, though. Quote
DraikNova Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 If they go the wave-splitting route, it'd be cool if all the sets featuring a big monster sets (in the style of Infernox) are from the plant side, while the water monsters get vehicles. It'd add a little more to distinguish them. Quote

It'd add a little more to distinguish them. I think that'd be a bad idea. The result would be one wave with no big monsters and one wave with no enemy vehicles. If you split the waves between the two villain types, it'd make far more sense to have a little of both in each wave. Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 (edited) I don't think the Book of Monsters creates the monsters, I think what happend is Merlok went around Knighton and captured the monsters in the Book, kind of like the Ghost Busters vault. Edited February 10, 2016 by Dr.Cogg Quote
Borex Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 I'm very interested in the new monster designs. They are so full of imagination, i love it. As someone earlier pointed out, the scurrier mould can be used for that tree-fig, but also for those roundish water monsters on that stickersheet. Just like the globlins can be grapes (and other rotten fruit) and balls with fish in them. That actually gives them an uniform theme within the series. I don't follow the tv-series and neither am i interested in the hero characters, but if they are going to do the wood/swampvillains i'll be all over them. I do hope the bush-ladies will have a different leg-part than the spooky ones. The Mushroomknight and bee-tree guy are my favorites. I wonder how they are going to make that bee-sword. And small evil mushrooms? Yes, please. The watervillains are cool too, but a little less fascinating. I do need me a water legpart for a custom Hydroman. Those crab-hands are a welcome bonus too. Amazing Bricks Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 (edited) What if Lego just put those character designs in the book, but decide not to make them the next villains? We're all excited for them, but it'd be a shame not to get them. Has this ever happened in any theme, where they show villains way before the next wave? Edited February 10, 2016 by amazingbricks Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 I not sure myself, but if TLG makes them here are the new molds I see: #1 Apple tree guys head with shoulder pads #2 Mush Lords Sword and head piece #3 Vine ladies hat #4 Tree Troll big fig #5 Black Knight's helmet and armor #6 Shark Mermaids hair #7 Fish man above Jestro helmet ( I think he might be build like Axel) That's about 10 molds.
