Robert8 Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 (edited) Things are getting off topic in this thread. I've seen this image before but it leads me to think that the new castle line would use this design of heraldry and uniform. Purple with a tower. Seems odd to create something like this for an event but not have it in the brick? Oh Lord.... I hope you're wrong Wodanis Edited May 19, 2015 by Robert8 Quote
thetang22 Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Oh Lord.... I hope you're wrong Wodanis I'm pretty sure that exact same image has already been brought up earlier in this very thread. If I remember correctly, that's the same promo setup that been used for years, and unrelated to any specific Castle theme. Quote
Blakstone Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Can someone confirm that? That coat of arms is new to me. I really want you to be right, Tang. Quote

SirBlake Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 I've been to that exhibit, and I thought similarly (I like the tower), but I think that's exactly why they they did develop a separate design: so it wouldn't look dated and feel "special". Quote
Itaria No Shintaku Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Probably since english is just the third language I speak, I'm getting myself wrong. I try again. Some castle waves, like the last one, were "more childish" than other ones, like fantasy era or "Kingdoms". The use of bright blue and bright red colors, super shiny less-detailed sets, is more child-oriented. The use of dark grey, dark red, dark blue, detailed sets, creepier minifigures, is less child-oriented. I think we can hardly fight over the fact that Fantasy Era was less Childish than the Lego 2013 Castle, I hope. Quote
gedren_y Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Remember that Fantasy Era got cut short, we now know it was because of development for LOTR. Since then a lot of new molds have been designed. If a relaunch of Fantasy Era is what we are getting, I could see many of the Chima, and some Disney Princesses, parts getting recolored. That exhibit may have been designed with prototype Kingdoms material. As it looks more like that than anything else. It is tonally similar to Fantasy Era, though, and apparently TLG decided to go in a different direction. Quote

Nothing to worry about here! Whew! I do not mind the tower heraldry though, but if we are getting a more fantasy era themed line again it should be epic. Considering all the new moulds from different lines and whatever else TLG creates. I've been to that exhibit, and I thought similarly (I like the tower), but I think that's exactly why they they did develop a separate design: so it wouldn't look dated and feel "special". You may be correct on this. I can only hope that the new line isn't too fantastical (Chima/Ninjago-esc). Castle works best with realism and a dash of fantasy. Now if they would only do a Roman theme! For all we know FE ran as long as it was meant to (with no plans to make the elves on the map). In any case I really hope the new theme wont be Chima-fied or too fantastical. Quote

Where did those other sets go? "7 big sets, 4 small ones, and one exclusive." In 2009 we only wound up with 3 "Big sets" (If by "small sets" he means promos), and the exclusive (The MMV). This leads me to believe that what was released was supposed to be a part of a larger wave, and the four unreleased ones included Elves. It's also possible that those sets didn't include Elves but TLG had to kill the line no matter what because they were in negotiations for the Hobbit films rights. The Hobbit film was originally set for a 2010 release, so this also makes sense. Interesting.......... Quote

The last Castle theme without fantasy elements was Knights' Kingdoms I, back in 2000 (my God, i'm old ) Even Kingdoms had Wizard/Witch minifigures. So, we can expect fantasy elements for sure... The thing is what can of "Fantasy" we'll get in this theme.... -Some sort of Power Rangers-esque characters like Knights' Kingdoms II -Fairytale inspired sets like Castle 2013 -Tolkien styled fantasy like Castle 2007 (Yes, please!) -Full fantasy theme like Fright Knights (This one could be interesting if done well) -Minimal fantasy elements like Kingdoms Edited May 20, 2015 by Robert8 Quote

SirBlake Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 I don't think it means anything relative to the next theme, but I do think it's interesting that this brand new Lego Hotel in Florida opted to use Kingdoms figs and heraldry and an FE troll: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/05/19/new-legoland-hotel_n_7318582.html Quote

If the hotel is brand new, I'd say the likely explanation for the Kingdoms/FE troll might have a lot to do with those being the relevant themes at the time of the design phase of this hotel. Quote

That could be. That said, you would think they would be conscious of the likelyhood that the theme would be retired, much like they seemed to be for that exhibit with the purple/tower. Quote
azog Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 It would be neat if they do kingdoms again but this time with the fantasy like a dragon, trolls, and even dwarfs!!!!! Quote

Yes, this is what a lot of us "figure," but that doesn't make it true - there was an insert that included elves, but there was never an ad for any set including them - never any evidence that there were plans or designs for any sets that did not get made, it's still just speculation that LOTR killed fantasy era. Still, personally, I am hoping for more fantasy in the future. Quote

(And it seems it doesn't include the legs) Ya, that cake looks terrible. It doesn't even look like a cake. Everything about it is off... the color, shape, even the minfigure included. A jester? Why not a clown or something? And why no legs? About the only redeeming quality is the numbers that you can use to put any age from 1-99. Quote

Interesting for you to say that, because I'm fairly sure that that Elf in the Lego magazine was the only product to ever be teased or advertised in a Lego magazine and never be seen in the flesh. Anyway, that won't matter if Lego listens to it's fans and makes....... -Non-Minidoll -Non-Fleshie In-house Elves. Clearly that's what we've wanted over the past 10,000 the past few years, and they've managed to miss the target twice. Quote
Deathleech Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 In-house Elves. Clearly that's what we've wanted over the past 10,000 the past few years, and they've managed to miss the target twice. You know, I was thinking about this and I wonder if it is why the LotR and Hobbit lines are so heavy on elves? Maybe they tried to give us more elves in those themes since Lego never got around to releasing their own versions in the Fantasy Era theme? I mean look at all the named elves we got.. a few versions of Elrond, Legolas, and Tauriel and then Haldir, Arwen, Galadriel, and Thranduil. We also get the elf butler/key holder, an elf servant, several Mirkwood Elf soldiers, etc. in sets. Some of these characters are givens like Legolas... but Haldir? Arwen? Even the elf butler? They have fairly minor roles in the films, especially when you consider we didn't even get characters like Eowyn and the Witch King. Furthermore the number of dwarves seemed to be pretty light in the Middle-Earth themes all things considered. Maybe that was just because they aren't featured as prominently in the movies (they aren't even shown in the prologue when they are supposed to be there)? Maybe it's because we got Thorin and his company which was 13 individual dwarves? Or maybe it's because we DID get dwarves in the Fantasy Era theme? I just found it weird we didn't get a single dwarf soldier. Quote
