I really hope to get the new helmet in black as well, for a full-sized black knight. Btw, has anyone put the Ultimate Lance visor on a transparent helmet (from Spyrius) yet?

No, but that would look great!

We already know some stuff about the 2017 sets but still no word about Nexo Knights

I assume we'll get a winter wave, right?

I would assume that the Forest Monsters are coming in the winter and the Sea Monsters are coming in the summer.

Now I feel the need to create a Nexo knights sigfig, thank you!

Happy to help! I'd make a Nexo version of my sigfig, but the helmet won't go over the moulded head. Shame really.

I could be wrong, but I have a feeling we could see some sort of sneak peek at what the next season may bring at the NK SDCC panel this weekend. The general consensus is that we're getting Plant Monsters in the next wave though, and I for one cannot wait. Though integrating them into my current NK layout may be tricky, I only have space for Knighton and a Lava Monster army... and I haven't figured out where Jestro's Volcano Lair is going yet once I get it

I'm pretty sure the book of monsters (the actual buyable book, not the in-story one) implies at one point that the forest monsters come after the sea monsters, so I'm guessing next year is sea monsters, 2018 is forest.

Can you quote exactly what it says? I haven't seen that.

If I recall correctly, they say the forest monsters are so powerful even the lava and water monsters fear them.

Having a little trouble seeing how lava demons are supposed to be intimidated by moss and bark people lead by a mushroom man...

Greater magical resistance, fireproof bark/hyphae and greater strength, presumably. Turns out I was wrong about that. He just says that if you think the other monsters (lava + sea) were tough, these are worse.(on Mushlord's page).

Hm. Still don't see them coming out in 2018, although potentially they could come out in Summer 2017 instead of Winter. I just don't see Lego unveiling the villains of the theme's third, and perhaps final, year more than two years in advance.

I think the Nexo Knights will prove to be a theme that will run for 4 or 5 years. All the signs (at least the ones i'm getting) show it's more succesful than Chima (for example).

I''m waiting for the Nexo Knights to hit the Dimensions game, that will be the point i probably need to step in and get that game as well!

What makes no sense to me: in the past years Lego had castles(-like) everywhere, between the genuine castles, LOTR/Hobbit, & Pirates of the Caribbean, & I'd even include Harry Potter. There it would have made sense for Lego to have discontinued castles for a while, because they were a little redundant, just like SW has more or less replaced other space themes.

..but no. It's when there is no more castle-like license around that Lego choses to discontinue castles. Unless another castle-like license is to be expected, I don't understand the logic. Unless someone thought "Lego has always been about castles & spaceships, let's merge both!", actually destroying the last thing that Lego has always been about.

Maybe Angry Birds's castle can be seen as this year's castle. It's certainly more a castle than Nexo's one, but I don't know..

For me we have 2 castle lines now. Nexo being futuristic castle, Elves being fantasy castle. Yes they are not ordinary knights and magic we always get but they are a fantasy themed castle related series.

TLG is not discontinuing castles(-like structures). Think of the Jestro's Volcano Lair, Ragana's Magic Shadow Castle, Skyra's Mysterious Sky Castle, the Angry Birds Castle you mentioned and let us absolutely not forget the recently revealed 71040: Disney Castle! These are all unorthodox in style and colour scheme, but all of them are castle-like structures you are speaking of! Moreover, your claim that "merging castles and spaceships is destroying the last thing that LEGO has always been about" is rather bold and biased by your field of interest, imho.

That said, I do hope that NK produces more structure-based sets next waves, I'd really like to see an underwater fortress, forest watchtowers and secret hideouts, that kind of stuff. Even better: heraldry on the bad guys' armour.

Btw, I think having so little "regular" castle could be a strategy to get the AFOL audience craving for it, so that when it is released, they are willing to buy a lot more than usual. (even though AFOLs are not the target audience) Just a theory.

The next Nexo Knights magazine contains a small catapult, using half an orange boulder brick, and comes with 3 disc shaped globlins.

Thanks!

I will save some money this month.

but Elves is designed for girls & outside the world of the minifig

But the thing is, Lego aims at kids, and the period during which kids are interested by castles & spaceships is only a few years (then they move on to technics, then they move on to.. life). So Lego does not need to renew its themes, and can't make its audience crave for it, that audience keeps renewing itself.

It's just like Lego city. Each year has its cops, firemen, etc. I don't care for those themes, but if Lego does them each year, it's because their audience renews itself & doesn't have cops/firemen yet.

So is it that Lego wasn't selling castles enough anymore? That'd be weird, but.. maybe.

Buy sets sell figs. Or thing creatively. I use friends figs as a diferent race in my Lego world, and all Elves sets are minific compatibile! :)

It's possible that the popularity of LEGO Castle has been declining and needed a jump-start (after all, even though LEGO refreshes their Castle lineup every three years, lately each subsequent Castle iteration has gotten smaller both in terms of the number of waves and the number of sets per wave). But I doubt that castles as a concept are doing badly, because again, LEGO has a lot of sets out this year that could be described as castles, even if they don't fall under the "LEGO Castle" theme.

Something to keep in mind is that according to Mark Stafford (Nabii), LEGO Nexo Knights as a concept has been in development since around 2009. Seven years is a pretty long development time even for a "big bang" theme (for comparison's sake, development for LEGO Ninjago began in 2008 and it was released in 2011). So LEGO has been preparing this concept for some time. It's entirely possible that rather than discontinuing Castle to make room for Nexo Knights, they instead consciously held Nexo Knights off until they DIDN'T have another Castle theme running, so they wouldn't have to worry about Nexo Knights cannibalizing Castle's sales or vice-versa.
