Medieval space cats? Who knows. I don't understand why every toy line thses days needs a TV tie-in.

Because it's a 30 minute commercial for a toy line. I wish Agents had a TV show so it would have gotten some more backing.

Normally we do hear of products for January by now. My guess then is the new line will be huge and they are keeping information tightly wrapped.

We haven't seen or heard anything about the January 2016 Lego releases though, have we? Other than the SW Construction figs? I know there have been some other SW leaks and the next monsters CMF, but those are all due out in 2015 still. Lego seems to be really tightening up on their leaks.

I agree, and a lot of recent exclusives were debuted with no leaked pictures ahead of time. But since retailers need to get info ahead of time for full themes unlike an exclusive, we should get at least a theme name and set list soon. A lot of info came out in August last year.

maybe I will give scooby doo a pass and save the money for this big bang theme, lets say scooby will be continued - I dont think that I can keep up with two themes

Over in the Action themes forum, these two books were found: http://www.amazon.com/dp/0545905869/ and http://www.amazon.com/dp/0545905869/.

Is this Castle?

(Thank you Anchir for the link)

...or Scooby-Doo (not that it's top-secret, really...and maybe there's already a Lego Scooby-Doo book in the works). Not sure if "Big Bang" is a codename or just some generic term associated with it or what, tho.

Atlantis isn't really a big bang theme, it lasted only two years. But if LEGO thinks that way, then we can call Ultra agents a big bang too...

Or 'The Big Bang Theory', as per the recent set?…. Though the 2016 date would't really make sense with that.

According to the descriptions of the books, it will be "An activity book featuring the heroes, villains, vehicles, and locations from the top secret, NEW LEGO brand! With minifgure!"

Don't think that describes the Big Bang Theory.

Also, note the " Top Secret". Scooby-Doo and TBBT products are already out, so this is almost certainly Castle, since we aren't supposed to know about the existence of the line yet. :classic:

I wonder if we might see a DaVinci style helicopter.

As I have been catching up on this thread, the mentions of steampunk had me thinking exactly this. Maybe rather than medieval, the historical period for this theme is closer to an early Renaissance, or even Gothic period? I am not sure how that would appeal to TLG's target audience, but it would definitely qualify as brand new, and still be considered "Castle".

Technically Atlantis was more the prototype of the newer Big Bang themes. They didn't quite have all the pieces in place yet. But they were going for the multi tiered media push. The collectable nature etc.

Thread is too long. Can someone summarise? Is it still basically:

One guy got some info from a LEGO store manager who may have made a mistake or been misinterpreted and it would be very surprising if a lowly store manager had any info anyway given the usual secrecy surrounding upcoming products... but it may be true.

Big theme with TV tie-in, castle but with sci-fi (maybe steampunk) elements. Release in January or spring 2016.

To be clear, there's been no mention of "sci-fi" elements....only light steampunk influences. There have been a few people saying "wouldn't it be neat if..." regarding the sci-fi....but in terms of the actual rumors, it's only mentioned Castle, with a light touch of Steampunk (such as World of Warcraft steampunk, for example).

Steampunk is classified as sci-fi, on eurobricks at least. See also the "space knights" rumor on the sci-fi forum that is believed to be related to this theme.

Sorry, I didn't know it was classified that way here. I've been in the gaming hobby for a LONG time, and it's typically been it's own classification, separate from both Medieval Fantasy and Sci-fi. Regarding the Space Knights rumor...I haven't noticed that in this particular thread, and I don't pay attention to the Sci-fi section here. If we are going by this thread alone, the rumor says it will be a Castle theme with light Steampunk, and the TV show tie-in is something else that's starting to pick up some momentum.

Anachronistic science is science fiction. The novels of Jules Verne and Mary Shelly's Frankenstein are science fiction. Creature or magic driven machines don't quite qualify as steampunk, which is the direction I think a fantasy type castle theme would go.

This is the thread he was talking about.

Also, I think that Mark Stafford is a set designer for this new theme.

Here's the last comment he made on his bricklist :

(Which was for a Chima set)

"This and the Exo Suit are actually the only sets I designed in 2013/14. I had a bit a turbulent time in my personal life so they put me on forward planning, wait until you see the sets I can add next January!

It theoretically could be anything, but we can narrow it down:

When do the new sets come out? January.

Was Stafford a principal designer for Chima and Ninjago? Yup.

Discuss.
