I agree, $200 sets are definitely barriers for little kids. Honestly, $100+ sets are in many cases too. I came from a very middle class family, and I remember the Black Knight's Castle was around $80'ish when I was young and wanted it, and that was an exercise in begging trying to have my parents buy a Lego set that was so expensive as a Christmas present. I realize money and circumstances aren't what they were back then, but that doesn't change the fact that $100+ is STILL a LOT of money to many people.

The problem is that majority of classic LEGO fans really want something in the way of Forestmen, Bandits, Dragon Knights, and Dungeon Knights..... You know classic Castle stuff 1992 mixed with Kingdoms level of design and quality with battle packs.

Now just imagine getting a new Black Knight's Castle....... D2C set, 1800 pieces or something with new design and stuff, but with that classic vibe.

That would be a true Castle theme.

Totally agree with you. That is what I was hoping for. This new theme will be either epic win or a total fail.

Even now the $200 sets are out of reach for me at times. A good paying job would certainly makes it much easier. Your point however is a very good one. As a kid I really wanted the Black Sea Barracuda (1989) but it was just too darn expensive for my parents to get. I hope TLG realises that the real reason they are doing so well is middle aged AFOLs like myself, who are buying their products for ourselves and their kids. (I don't have kids but I see many that do)

For the topic at hand. I really would like some concrete information right about now. I've been following this thread ever since it started and I would like to have my imagination rewarded by an epic theme that I will say to myself 'I totally have to buy these sets!'.

It'll be more like Chima, I bet.

Good God I hope that's not the case, otherwise this will be another disappointment like when we thought that Elves would be a fantasy/castle theme but it turned out to be a minidolls theme. Also the lacks of news is frustrating the very least,I hope by the end of this month someone will shed more light about the this new theme. The Big Bang books are scheduled to release in February. I imagine TLG will try to keep the lid on it for a couple more months yet. Us AFOLS are harsh critics and will bad mouth an entire line over one pixelated image. No wonder LEGO wants to manage what we get to see and when.

Then they should do themselves a favor and release several high quality pictures of what's coming rather than wait for something that will look like crap to leak

I so agree with that

Unless they are afraid of their own product :sceptic: they should be hyping it up with some epic pics.

Just2good is one of the (if not the best) informants when it comes to inside information. If he "bets" it's going to be like Chima, we should prepare ourselves for the likelihood that "castle" is going to suck really bad.

I'll give my final judgement when I see the sets myself but for now I'll remain hopeful. Edited by LOTR34

Eh, it's a philosophical difference, but hope leads to disappointment. If castle is truly turning into an action theme, history shows that it's going to be a technicolor screw job. If it turns out being great, a pleasant surprise will be a welcome one.

That's what I keep telling myself. But it also depends on how people perceive this change from castle to action, for most fans of the classic era it aint good news but I have no problem with this change. But in the meanwhile I don't know what to expect because very little is known about the whole theme,so as I said before I'll reserve final judgement until the pictures are out. Like the tribe Packs?

Eh, seems like it'd be too early to put those out on a first wave. Chima had them on one of their last. I dunno, though.

Maybe we'll get flying carriages or robot dragons or flying fortresses. I'm kind of excited, though the concept just sounds like somethin' LEGO would and wouldn't do. :shrug_oh_well:

Maybe you guys are seeing something I'm not, but the weapon selection in those Chima tribe packs doesn't look that good to me. That said, if I was at all into that theme, I'd be all over army building sets like that.

Fear not, the battle packs will probably be like old school: http://brickset.com/...le-Mini-Figures I was so happy to get two of these back in the day and proud to say they are mint. One way to get villagers eh? Chances are they could incorporate villagers with battle packs and fulfill an item on our wish lists.

If they do a robo dragon like this

We really aren't at any sort of shortage when it comes to recent examples of what Castle Battle Packs will look like. I suppose future examples will resemble history:

2007-2009's Fantasy Era:

Crown Knights Battle Pack

Skeletons Battle Pack

Dwarves Battle Pack

Trolls Battle Pack

2010's Kingdoms:

Red Knights Battle Pack

Green Knights Battle Pack

2013 Castle:

Lion Knights Battle Pack

Dragon Knights Battle Pack

I think given that all the Chima and Star Wars battle packs are boxed sets with a small build (like Forest Ambush) I think its most likely we will see that model going forward instead of the plastic over cardboard action figure style. I think its better to have sets like that which appear in normal retailers and go on discount than the exclusive battle packs.

I guess I should have clarified that the packaging itself was kinda of irrelevant...just that we've been seeing lots of examples of the content of battle packs in recent years.

The problem there is those 10's of Thousands of Classic Castle Fans who still buy Lego remain a drop in the bucket compared to the target aged kids who form Lego's primary consumer group. A "Castle Type" new internal IP is getting the full blown mass media Ninjago/Chima treatment. That's pretty much almost a guaranteed Rockstar status for sales. To put it in perspective I would not be surprised if Ninjago has exceeded the combined sales of all classic Castle sets. That's how much of a boost the cartoons and books and tie ins and games etc give the line. And Castle fans are complaining about this? ARE YOU ALL INSANE? This sort of thing is why Lego legitimately should always do the opposite of what AFOLs whine about.
