Blakstone Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 (edited) I don't think there is enough interest for LEGO to do an expansive historically accurate theme. I think the closest we will get is a minifig or two in the CMF series. The pod wall around my desk at work is covered with historic minifigs. For Japan, there is samurai (both new and old versions), geisha, and sumo wrestlers. For the Celtics, there are a mass of Highland Battlers. For Egypt, I have the Pharaoh, Cleopatra, and the Egyptian warriors. For Roman, there are is Julius Caesar, Roman Centurions, Roman Commanders, and Gladiators. There is also a Hun army. I don't think we can hate on Nexo Knights for not being historic. We were never told they would be. But if there is anything useful for historic fans like you and me, we should appreciate those pieces. It might not be worth buying a single one of these sets. But I need to see them first to know. Rob1321 Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 I somewhat agree. Hopefully it has some useful pieces and figures. Who knows, I may end up loving the theme. Quote
Vorkosigan Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 (edited) Ah, you got me(and probably some of the others) all wrong. It's not the steampunk I'm complaining about. In fact, I'd love to have a steampunk theme SEPARATELY. I'm complaining because they are doing it AS Castle 2016. This is not going to say Castle anywhere on it, so its not being done "AS Castle." There simply isn't a Castle theme for 2016. Plus it's Knights Nexo Possibly it could be Knights' Nexo, like Knights' Kingdom but I doubt it. It could also be Knights of Nexo, but I still think Nexo Knights is most likely. Edited August 13, 2015 by Vorkosigan Quote
gedren_y Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 (edited) Knights Nexo, Nexo Knights, or Knights of Nexo. It all depends on the conjugation of what is believed to be an adjective in the language it was found in, and if that was translated from some other language (has happened before). Or could Nexo be a place name? Edited August 13, 2015 by gedren_y Quote
Deathleech Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Got some interesting details here:Robin is going to have a Robin hood look to him. Five nexo knights Thanks for the info so far! Do you have any idea if the five knights are all human? Could some be dwarves, or for instance the Robin character an elf? What about the bad guys? You mentioned some lava inspired villains, but what about the grunts/lackeys? Any clue what they are yet? Skeletons, orcs/trolls/goblins, robots... something else entirely? Quote

Skeletons, orcs/trolls/goblins, robots... something else entirely? Not sure if they're all humans, but I'm 99.99% sure the five nexo knights will be normal. So far all I know for the villains, are the lava monsters. I'll be getting new info soon so I'll share that when I have the chance. Quote
---Vertea--- Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 I'd like to wee where this goes. I like castle themes a little more on the whimsical side, so this sounds just about up my alley. the steampunk thing could be cool, if that's still a thing, or perhaps a kind of fantasy/tech blend similar to the He-Man series. I kind of liked that kind of thing (which Chima kind of already did, but I got tired of the animal motifs real quick) Quote
gedren_y Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 He-Man and the Masters of the Universe was my first introduction to fantasy castle. There is supposedly another remake (they did one in 2002) somewhere in development. I still remember the flying sled that came off of the tank. I had it and Castle Greyskull. I even watch the 1987 live action movie from time to time. If this is an in-house version of the world of Eternia, I will be quite content. The techno-barbarian feel can be done with only minimal sci-fi elements. Characters having enhanced forms, with possible magical or powered abilities, to be used as a play gimmick is fine by me. I am a parts buyer, so Lego's intended designs have little bearing in what I buy. The show; well I don't even get Cartoon Network, so I will likely only see it if it gets on Netflix, or some other streaming service. I write my own stories for my figs. Maybe I'll make my builds Eternia some time later. Ooh, ideas! Play sets should be the order of the day, with some great place scenes. When it comes to having fortifications, yes siege machines are acceptable. I would like to see Lego do something like they tried to do for Morcia, where the fortifications could be dressed for one side or the other. Continue with the modular castle builds, so that the smaller sets can add up to a fort by themselves, or be added to the big set. All the fantastical elements (sci-fi or not) can be the icing, to be discarded if you don't like the flavor. That would be ideal. I will be okay with Lego falling short of that, though. Quote
Artanis I Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 I'd like to wee where this goes. I also would like to wee where it goes, where it's been, all over it in fact. Quote
Robert8 Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 Me too! I'm sure about the idea but I can't to see something! Quote

Yeah that's more or less my big concern right now, the set names imply yet more vehicles and no buildings, smaller sets forming a large fortress together sounds awesome to me and if it has Sci-Fi influences those can then be removed for people who don't want that. I know there's a "mobile fortress" type of set. Quote
Kalhiki Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 So the Ultimate sets will be the "Spinners/Airjitzu" of the line? Figured that'd be the case. But I just couldn't help but hope to see mini Knight-like Exo Armor... Ah well. I guess now it's time to wait for pics. Eager to see the Robo-Horse. Quote
Sorrelon Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 Those lava monsters might look like monsters from Power Miners. Lego might want to puff out the dust on their molds and reuse them for the incoming theme Also, I wonder how much sci-fi/steampunk those sets will be? If they have more Castle influence than steampunk, then perhaps they'll be in a similar sense to Castle Cavalry from Lego Movie sets. Quote
greenalfonzo Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 So, 2013 Lego releases a traditional castle theme to go against, and cannibalize sales from, its licensed fantasy castle them, LOTR. Then nothing until next year's next's apparent sci-fi themed techno-castle. Wonder they can stay in business at all with this type of genius marketing. Quote
ZCerberus Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 Wonder they can stay in business at all with this type of genius marketing. Oh yes, they seem to be struggling mightily these days That is not too say they have always made the best moves, but I don't doubt their marketing department knows what it is doing these days. Quote
KristofBD Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 They experiment and make calculated guesses, which is actually a good strategy: maximize your exposure to 'Black Swans' (unpredictable but explainable events). Moreover, they do always run these things by focus groups it seems. Let's see how this theme goes, I do hope it is still somewhat Castle-y. Steampunk is ok, but KK revisited... pff no thanks. I guess I am mostly interested in seeing what new molds they create. Let's hope they are reusable and not too over the top. Quote
Sinthoras Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 I really hope they use the new stud-shooting crossbow from Chewbacca (from the Millennium Falcon set) in the Nexo Knights line. Quote
Lord_Tyrannus Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 I'm very curious about the new minifigs, how will they look like? Quote
rodiziorobs Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 Robo Horse by rodiziorobs, on Flickr Visited family out of town this weekend, saw this sculpture while out for a walk, and immediately thought of this thread. Sadly, I don't think we'll get anything like this from Lego but I would buy out the store if they did Quote
