You'll probably beat me to finish it. I'm gonna take my time a savour this build. Those legend like 8880 and 8868 will always be great, but looking at it objectively and without nostalgia, the Arocs is the best thing ever released by Lego in my opinion, better than the unimog, better than 8868, the best of all time.

If it was just an empty box with longer pneumatics in it, you would still think it was the best of all time.

I'm too excited about the new pneumatics!!! But please don't forget the epic 8455!! it will never happen again to have 10 cylinders squeezed into such a small model!!

You make me giggle Black!!

Probably  but it is mechanically authentic with it's pneumatics, live axles and steering linkages (only could be improved with leaf springs), it's complex and the build is interesting. It doesn't feel like your just endlessly placing pins into beams like most other sets due to there being steering/suspension linkages, lots of gears and pneumatics, so lots of mechanical variety to keep it interesting, it's also very well engineered so far, I haven't finished it yet though and there's lots of new functional parts, like the pneumatics and stronger turntable that many of us have requested.

8455 is great, and for awesomeness per piece it is the king. At less than 800 pieces it beats flagships twice it's size and price. But it's unfair to compare it to the Arocs. At around 4 times the part count, it's better than 8455 but I can't say it's 4 times better, is that even possible?!

It makes sense Allanp! Lucky enough I own a 8455 and I love it all the way!

About the Arocs; leaf springs are possible! And will be a mod within the 8X8 mod!

But the best mod is the huge long swing arn crane I've designed for it....chaps expect this topic of mine few more days and I'll blown your minds up!

Let me be say, probably the longest and complex swing arm crane ever designed in LEGO!!!

I'am looking forward for it! :)

Max...

Just finished it and I love it even more! The crane is way more impressive than I thought it would be. But nothing can be perfect, that's impossible so here's a couple things worth noting for any of you who are going to build this milestone of awesomeness!

I found some of the blue hoses that supply the valves to be too long which when installed as shown in the instructions, there was a chance of kinking and preventing it from working, so I cut them a little shorter. Cut hoses at your own risk.

The end result is nice and tidy and with no chance of kinks. Pneumatics work perfectly!

But there are some things to be mindful of when routeing hoses. After a test fit I found there is a gear that fits right here when installed onto the model:

So be careful when shoving hoses through the base that no hoses end up here.....

....otherwise it will rub against the gear and potentially stop it turning, which would prevent the arm from slewing left or right. There is a lot of hoses to pack into a tiny space, it's definitely the most packed part of the model. All of the hoses shown here (which in the picture I've already shoved up inside the turntable).....

Have to fit into this tiny space here, without rubbing against any moving parts like gears.

Hopefully this will help somebody :classic:

Please do not post such photos!

Because I'm not the fan of pneumatics... But when I see how nice this looks I'm slowly breaking myself... :D

It looks very good and interesting everything... :)

I think that comment could go down like a lead balloon, especially in this topic. :snicker:

LOL there is another section in the forum for "dolls and barbies"....pneumatics are for real men only

I was very impressed by your hyster forklift so I have high expectations for this mod. Looking forward to it ;)

P.S is it all pneumatic?

Yes all pneumatics, apart from the rotation of the turntable which will be the actual one of the arocs

No, serious... As I know me... Everytime I'll enter the Lego shop and see the Arocs on the shelf it will be more and more difficult for me to resist and not to try pneumatics... :D

I'll wait for your tasty photos of your modifications and it will be even more hard for me... :D

I ordered mine yesterday for € 159,95 now impatient until delivery.

At www.1001farmtoys.nl they can't garantee delivery at august 1st, but with a price like that I don't mind.

The more I see this, the more I want it... but I also want 42042, and the F40...!

Really nice and simple mods allanp - thanks for sharing.

They deliver in september, thats what is said on the website. 160 euro is a bargain but will i wait for 20 euro discount with serverall other websites.

Power much!

I think this was it's lifting limit when built as stock, because this pin broke.

20150725_161736.jpg

I was gonna add another pump because of how it performed in the toy fair videos, but I really don't think it needs it. The new turntable holds up great as well.

Edited by allanp

Maybe add a bar so the pin doesn't break, or replace it with an axle.

Cool test though

The Lego shops have actually started selling them early as I have just popped in and been told that they received an email saying that as other stores like Argos etc. Had started selling them they might as well, can't wait to get home now...

nion can u tell me where you ordered it? 160 euro is a great price

Saw an advert on Marktplaats from a local toy shop in Waddinxveen. They did raise the price to 169.95 on friday but it's still a pretty good deal.

You can either pick it up on thursday or they will send it to you for 4.95 A 50% deposit is required to place your pre-order.
