Yes.

It's understandable the book is that thick when a step can be like this..

And of course it is the old discussion whether aimed for Afols and/or the demographic 11-16 as the box says!

Ha, I've just taken those parts out whilst converting it to 8 wheel drive.

Unpacked, sorted and counted!

Tedious and time consuming? Oh yes!

Relaxing and soothing? Oh yes!

I always do like this for an entire set, never build bag by bag, so numbered bags are not an issue for me..

I prefer rummaging through a box full of parts, I find it adds to the frustration

agreed, it adds to my build time, which in turn adds to the enjoyment of the build for me

I think this is an interesting topic for discussion (11-16 demographic). Perhaps I should create a whole new thread for this (moderators, if you feel it necessary, go ahead).

The recommended ages for Technic builders is interesting. I am not sure what TLG is basing the recommendation off of. Hopefully they consulted the correct discipline to be able to make that call.

As a practicing neuropsychologist I can say that the recommendation is certainly an over-generalization. I have not studied all boxes..... but there certainly are differences between the difficulty levels of flagships like these and smaller sets with the same recommendation. I can tell you from professional experience that the ability to complete models like these has much less to do with age and more regarding specific cognitive strengths and weaknesses. I know youngsters with excellent non-verbal skills that would have no problem completing this model, but can't read or write (verbal skills) for the life of them. I know adults, who are smart, successful and great at verbal skills but are completely lost in anything non-verbal. They could not complete this for the life of them. My father for example, very smart, successful religious professor could not do this even though he holds a PhD and is around 60.

Really amazed how rigid the chassis is, especially considering that they used 0 center frames in it.

And I absolutely love the steering/front axle setup. Really clever, smooth and reliable.

Oh man I don't have that amount of self control. I would just give into the impulse to build!!!

Nerds, this pic is for you

I take the fun out of building, or:

I am the Sheldon Cooper of building..

The price is a little steep over here in Australia, it is the same as the volvo. I guess it has got a lot more parts but still...

Ugh, seems like I've gotten two 216mm hoses instead of the two 296 mm ones. :cry_sad: Should I pause the build until I get this sorted out with TLC or go ahead and use some of my older hoses? ( really don't feel like using old pieces in a brand new set, but then again I can't wait to finish it either )

Do you know when our stores (Target, Big W, Kmart etc) will start stocking them? Im waiting to see if they'll have a sale or if i should just go ahead and buy it off the LEGO site!

I believe they come out in September

Well all those stores generally sell it for the same price as it is on the Lego site, and given that you get free shipping from Lego it is really either or. But where are you in Australia because here in Melbourne there is this great store called shopforme that always has sales on. At the moment they have the volvo listed for around $280. The only problem is that you will have to wait a bit longer (that is what I will do)

TLGs customer service will sort this out for you if you want to wait for parts, it's up to you. I had one small connector piece missing, which was a common piece so I just used one from my collection. If it's a part I don't have many of already, I'de still finish it (if nothing else to see if any other parts are missing) and then call Lego and replace the part(s) when the new one arrives, or just put the new part(s) "in stock".

I actually had few pieces missed! About 5 or 6....but I had plenty of in my collection to replace them with!

Anyway for all those saying the Arocs cabin looks ugly...well build it and then you'll change your mind! It's a set with infinite possibilities of mods!

Yeah, I filed a report through bricksnpieces last night.

I might actually finish building it without those parts anyway. By 296 mm I actually meant 296 cm, and those are the hoses that supply air to the pneumatic actuator that controls the clamshell. So not a lot functionality is lost. I do have spare pneumatic hoses but I don't want to cut them just for a few days until the replacement parts arrive....

You meant 296 cm? That is allmost 3 meter of hoses. I don't think that is in the box.

Sorry, I just checked again and it is indeed 296 mm. This is what happens when you wake up at 5:00 am to start building.

would it be possible to put differtials on all four axels?....or is it overkill/unnesscary?

everything is possible..but you have to rebuild the front axels entirely. they are not easy to motorize in the current setup.

They are stops to put between the wheels so the truck won't go downhill when parked. Purley estetic purposes.

also...what are those yellow brick things on top of the rear wheel fenders?

Brake blocks or whatever it is called. you can put them after/before an axle to make extra sure the truck will not move..

I think they're also referred to as chocks, as in the phrase "Chocks away!" when a aeroplane is ready for take-off. They won't do much here, but their inclusion (as they do feature on the real truck) goes to show the detail that has been put into the set.

It's going to be painful waiting for this set to drop in price :cry_sad:

Has anybody built the crane arm with the tubes untouched and after cutting them shorter so they don't catch the gears, and if anybody has is there any noticeable difference in the operation of the pneumatics? I'm probably going to cut the tubes to make things fit easier if there is little/no difference.

Has anyone yet built the B-model? I'm interested to know if cutting the tubes might impact the alternate model.

They're shown used in the box art when the Arocs is working in "rough" terrain.
