I've seen this replica I think a week or 2 before they posted the video from the toy fair, this guy probably has inside sources to pull off such replica off hand, for me he just spoils things out and though he gives the "best" look for an upcoming model its just not it. Oh well its over he pulled it off anyway and he even has a replica of the 42042, It's still 5 months from now before we all get our hands on it, for picture reference of the real factory stock Mercedes-Benz Arocs I suggest taking some from www.media.daimler.com

I don't get the people who think it's not OK to build and show off a replica, yet still are as eager as the rest of us to see pictures of the actual model!

On topic; I still don't get why they opted for two 3L liftarms in the doors, when two 6L thin liftarms would look cleaner. Especially since that part was used a lot recently (42025).

This picture does show that the front axle bends due to entire body weight of truck.

I realized that this issue was pointed out before.

Maybe this issue will happen a lot if TLG keeps designing this scale for flagship sets in the future.

I want to know opinion from everyone about this issue. Is there a way to solve or avoid ??

Maybe leaf springs are more suited for the job? Like, say, a modified, grayscale-colored version of the new flex-fender pieces in 42039? Meatier anti-roll bars? Edited by XAxles

I would say it is not the front axle that bends. I think the cross-axle attaching the wheel to the front axle is the problem. I guess this cross-axle is going through just one module and thus given a lot of space for movement. This in combination with the weight of 2600+ parts will do the trick.

Pards I think and I probably will agree with the above mentioned comment that the problem is with LBG cross axle, they used the same approach with 9397 but that set has no less than 1308 parts once built and is pretty much light weight so its not a problem on that set compared with this big guy at 2793 parts plus the battery box alone also adds to the load is probably whats causing the front suspension to bend/ push at both sides, it would have been a smart idea if TLG used the same shock absorber design but placed extra stiff springs like what they did with 8110 so as to compensate for the mass this set is already bearing.

Where to find the cash for all i want to buy. :tongue: I managed to talk myself out of the Volvo loader but this will be much harder.

Anyways i read something about the scale before but while that was mentioned as the same as some other sets i would like to know what actual scale IE 1:12 or so it is. I was hoping it would be 1:12 but seeing as the Unimog is that then it must be smaller. I tried calculating the scale using the wheels since the real once would be 1072 mm if using Goodyear truck tires divided by 62 mm for the Lego wheels yet that makes 1:17 which seems really small scale. Or did i calculate wrongly. In comment 684 Mark Bellis got the scale at 1:13 but i don't know how really.

According to a quick Google search, the Arocs is available with 12.8l or 15.6l engines. 6 cylinders means 2.133l or 2.6l per cylinder. The latter would have about 93.9mm diameter and stroke if the dimensions were the same. The diameter of the LEGO cylinder is about 9.5mm. The wheel scale, at 62.4mm compared to 385 65 R22.5 super-single truck tyres would be 1:13.169. The cylinder diameter should be 7.13mm at that scale. The LEGO cylinders would fit a scale of 1:10, which would use 81.6mm wheels. Effectively 42043 has a 37-litre engine! :classic:

There was an earlier mention of the smoothness of the pneumatics. It may be down to a small compressor and restrictions in the circuit at the switch valves and the cylinder nozzles. Movement may be smooth in each single direction but there would be a lot of hysteresis one reversing the direction.

So which scale is this truck in? I get that the wheels on the real truck are smaller than on most trucks so no fault in the set there but i would still like to know which scale this is. I have a truck i've been trying to build for like a year now so i was thinking of not finishing it but if this isn't in scale 1:12 which that will be at then i might reconsider.

This truck is not 1:12 scale, it would be more than 25 studs wide in that scale.

To determine the scale (For any vehicle) Just look at how wide the truck is - count the studs - to me it looks like it is 17 studs wide, calculated in cm it is 13.6 cm. Then use the real truck width in cm...2.5m - 250cm and divide real truck's width with our model.

So...250/13.6 equals 18.38 or roughly 1:18. Scale is 1:18.

8110 Unimog U400 is effectively a big 4x4 Technic set, I think its one of the biggest in terms of size for Technic truck, 42043 Arocs 3245 is in league with piston engine-equipped sets like 8258 and 9397 (correct me if I'm wrong), the Volvo set is just too expensive because of the PF parts used on it and is limited in terms of Technic parts, a monster set like the upcoming Arocs is a big welcome for any AFOLs and I'm looking forward to getting one :)

Thanks for the help. Scale 1:18 you say. :sceptic: Wow that was way smaller than i thought. I had hoped for at least 1:16 but i get why it's that small. Yes i remember the Unimog and its terrible steering. Oh well looks like i will have to finish that Tatra Agrotruck anyway. I got some RC-tires last year just for that one.

When i plan what to build i tend to calculate on the wheel size since i don't know what the size of the vehicle will be and i want to know if i have tires of the correct size or at least close to it. I have several datasheets of tires in many sizes and look at those and then divide by what scale i was planning on using and hope that i have matching tires. If not i scale down the build or build something else. Trucks tend to have several configurations so if one doesn't work i find one that does. I chose Agrotruck instead of other Tatras since it doesn't use dual rear wheels like the Arocs so the 6 i have will be enough.

If i understand correctly then 1:18 is the most common scale for Technic flagships. I will have to remember that should i ever want to build some addon for a official set. :wink: Either way i'm so getting this set. 42030 never interested me that much but this most certainly does. :wub:

A more detailed video appeared on the Internet, I think many like me already looking forward to a full and detailed review of these sets, from such people as Sariel Ile his kind.

Not to be a d*ck, but I respectfully disagree. :classic: IMO this just looks plain messy. They could've gone with a V6 or find out a way to pack all of that engine under the cab.. anyhow, this is such a minor detail, it doesn't change the fact that this is going to be an awesome set.

This is a very odd front suspension setup... Especially that back link.

The pictures does confirm the Straight-6 is there, I hope to see the set's HOG system trickle down in future sets, the style it has which has no knobs but instead makes use of the beacon lights is a wise move.

That's not a new idea. They did it in 8258.

Yes, I prefer to think of this as building a puzzle. You can see the box, but you still don't know how all the pieces fit together.

This isn't MOCing, it's puzzle building, but IMO it's still very cool :tongue: I agree with you, Jim.

Licenses for Technic line must be close to 0$.

The difference between a 42043 with and without license can be sum up to the MB logo, and, maybe, the shape of the calender...

A 42043 without license would not be an Arocs 3245 but a big truck with big crane and big tipper. Which is about the same.

License adds no value to the product.

I can not imagine TLG paying for such a license. Nor the customers paying a premium for that.

I'd rather pay extra for a brand vehicle. I think most people would.

It depends a bit on the type of vehicle, I think. On something specific/unique/iconic like the Unimog it makes sense, but for this truck the fact it's a Mercedes doesn't really add anything. Likewise the Volvo loader would be just as good under a different brand or none.

If the price is higher because it's branded, then that puts me off rather than attracting me to it.

Yes, it looks just like a Pacific P16 to me. But I'm not wearing my glasses today.

I want to know why it doesn't have portal axles too.

Anyone seen this yet? You get a really nice view of the rear suspension. Best picture i've seen so far :D ps: if you right click and open the picture in a newtab, you can zoom alot more in on it. i think it is a 4k picture so lots of details :D

Hello!

Tell me please, I think here is another new details present in this collection. Already have the parts 99009 and 99010 and it is in my opinion the XL version, or such gear was already in the early sets at number 48452cx1 only now she's just in a new guise?
