January 28, 201510 yr I like this set a lot. I love the blue, the size is impressive, and it's something newish. I agree with the assessment of the four driving rings. That's a great feature, and improve the play-ability. It seems like TLG is finally hearing our thoughts about colors in sets.
January 28, 201510 yr It seems like TLG is finally hearing our thoughts about colors in sets. I agree. The colors in this year are a very good choise and not so boring like the constant yellow-red-yellow-red-black combinations. Since 2013, TLG brings a lot of white parts to us.
January 28, 201510 yr Interesting that they are using driving rings to change direction of a function. I like it. I think the cab should be on the left tho
January 28, 201510 yr I have seen MOCs that use drive rings this way and one official model, the submarine b-model of 8480, but this is so far the best official use of it IMHO.
January 28, 201510 yr I think it's very cool that you can switch the direction directly through the driving rings. It sucks big time on other models and MOCs when you have to switch the polarity on the battery box.
January 28, 201510 yr I count 45 DBG elements of tracks per side. For example, 8043 has 38 elements on tracks. This makes the structure of 42042 much bigger than 8043.
January 28, 201510 yr The internal gearbox system is propably similar to this, but of course with the new 3L driving rings and large motor. The L-motor make sense while driving 4 (with 2 extra lever) functions simultanously.
January 28, 201510 yr If someone does make an ultimate model, it is going to be huge. Especially with at least 8 motors... Wow
January 28, 201510 yr Looks very interesting! Blue, tracked, knuckle crane... Isn't 2015 just the best Lego year ever?! :) But I only buy 1 set this year, and this aint it.. :)
January 29, 201510 yr I was dissapointed with the 1H sets, with exception of the Volvo loader, but the 2H sets... They are better than I ever hoped! I'll have to buy several of each. This might be the most expensive Lego year yet. -ED-
January 29, 201510 yr The A model has the boom raised to 80 degrees and the B model has the boom at 45 degrees. Blekburd pls. Stahp.
January 29, 201510 yr The A model has the boom raised to 80 degrees and the B model has the boom at 45 degrees. Unusually, a C model is also included: remove boom extension from crane and use as load. Sorry, piss-poor joke Not even funny.

January 29, 201510 yr SO happy that we are getting a new crawler crane. I made comments regarding this on a post a while ago: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=99797&st=25 Essentially, I mentioned the need for a new, large CC, to replace 8288. 8288 enjoyed great success, and I think that a new one, larger, is awesome. Although it is not nearly as large as I would like. Here are my exact comments: Large crawler cranes abound everywhere, tons of people have built them. However, I think this points to the immense interest people have in the builds. Also, TLG put out one, and only one crawler in I think 2007 or 2008, LEGO 8288, in it was an immense success. Even today, new, sealed models are selling for around 400-500 dollars, and this is on a set less than 1000 pieces! So I think there is an intense interest in a crawler crane. The other thing is these cranes are pretty simple. Lots of liftarms no doubt, but mechanically can be built much like the 8288 just on a larger scale. I think a large CC, roughly twice the size of 8288, say as a flagship model for 2015 or 16 would be wonderful and sell like ice in hell. If someone were to submit a well built, functional CC around the 1600-2000 piece range w/o motors but just manual functions I think it would get tons of votes, pleasing to TLG, and marketable. I would produce one myself but am currently tied up in other projects. Essentially, one day I would love to see something like the 8288, just much larger. Like ~2000 - 2500 pieces large. I think it would be a great flagship model.

January 29, 201510 yr The plane has working ailerons, and there appears to be a control stick above the aft fuselage, similar to the current cargo plane. The tail is not very visible in the pictures, but I would guess that we will have working elevators as well. Hopefully, there will be a working rudder too. I think I spot a 2 cylinder horizontally opposed engine.

January 29, 201510 yr Wasn't the plane just 600 parts or so? That's about half of 42025. It would be great to have that much functionality in only 600 pieces. This could turn out to be a really nice medium-sized set. If the inventory is promising and the price decent, I might get it.
January 29, 201510 yr I see that in the picture too. It sounds and looks great but perhaps a bit too similar to the very recent cargo plane. maybe having the control stick in the cabin would be better?
January 29, 201510 yr Sorry guys, I posted that in the wrong thread. I'll repost it in the general 2015 thread. My bad.
January 30, 201510 yr UPDATE: There's definitely more pictures coming, including the Fire Plane, Promobricks took a lot of pictures and will post them in due time - best thing is to follow his twitter feed https://twitter.com/promobricks or the website http://www.promobricks.de/
