SerenityInFire Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Hello, and as you can guess by my current profile pic, I am a fan of heavy metal. My favorite subgenre is Thrash Metal, though I do listen to quite a few bands from other subgenres. Some of my favorite bands are: Judas Priest Megadeth In Flames Dark Tranquillity Metal Church Testament Morbid Saint Death Dismember Kataklysm Living Sacrifice Immortal Satyricon Demolition Hammer Kreator Bloodbath Quote
UrbanErwin Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 (edited) I think you could consider my musical preferences as metal too, although I am more a fan of the older, more known bands. Black Sabbath Iron Maiden Metallica Rammstein Saxon Slayer Rage Against the Machine (is this considered metal?) Mötorhead Judas Priest They are not the most extreme and heavy bands known, but who cares. Edited February 9, 2015 by UrbanErwin Quote
Robianco Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 I'd probably put myself in that category although I'm not remotely familiar with most of the bands listed in the first post. My first gig was the 1988 Donington Monsters of Rock so I made sure I went a couple of years ago as it was the 25th Anniversary and Maiden has it as part of their Maiden England Tour. I've seen quite a lot of rock and metal bands over the years although Iron Maiden are probably still my favourite 'metal' band. Foo Fighters are someone I've seen around 7 times now. I also like finding new stuff (new to me that is) so I've been listening to Orange Goblin over the last couple of years along with Mastodon and a few others I've found. I'm with UrbanErwin with a lot of my likes although I prefer Megadeth to Metallica. My main musical love are Led Zeppelin... whether that can still be considered metal of any kind I'm not sure but they're certainly an influence on most metal bands. I also went to school with Anathema as a piece of trivia... last time I saw them was being jumped on at Radiohead a few years ago although I'm selling a computer to Duncan (former bass player) at the moment and I need to deliver it to Darren (the original singer) who lives near my parents. Inzane Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Megadeth Metallica - old 80s stuff Iron Maiden Testament - older stuff, before their vocals all sounded like death/deathcore style (ugh..) Anthrax then not as heavy, a whole slew of 80s hair-metal bands. + Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. Quote
jamie75 Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Pantera Slipknot old Metallica, haven't liked anything of theirs, since the Black Album Some Megadeth Five Finger Death Punch Quote
SerenityInFire Posted February 12, 2015 Author Posted February 12, 2015 I'm into more of the really heavy stuff from the 80's and early 90's with most of my favorite bands being from either the San Francisco Bay area or Sweden. Quote
Hellfyre Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Yeah, I love metal and all the subgenres in between, from Avenged Sevenfold (yes, I consider them metal) to Behemoth. I'd say my favourite band is Rammstein. Saw them a couple years ago at Download Festival and it was the best live performance I had ever seen in my life. The first ever gig I went to was Iron Maiden in 2011 at the O2 Arena (I never had money for gigs beforehand or means of travel, I had been spending everything on Lego!). Ever since, going to gigs has been my second hobby and I've seen more bands than I can be bothered to count. I think my more favoured subgenres in the past few years have been Symphonic metal and Folk metal. Last semester I saw Epica and Eluveitie, and I would count them among my favourite gigs. Incidentally, tomorrow I will be buying tickets to see Nightwish, Arch Enemy and Amorphis at Wembley Arena (it will be my second time seeing Nightwish with Floor as lead). Last gig I went to was Primordial last Saturday, supported by Winterfylleth and Portrait. I also saw Slipknot (for the second time) at Nottingham a few weeks ago and Amon Amarth here in Norwich the week before that. Next Tuesday I'll be seeing Black Label Society at my university which is refreshing because I don't have to go far this time. Other gigs I'll be attending this year are Kamelot, Ensiferum/Insomnium/Omnium Gatherum, Sonata Arctica and Powerwolf/Xandria. Very excited. Quote
SerenityInFire Posted February 18, 2015 Author Posted February 18, 2015 The only gig I've ever been to was Megadeth, Testament and Slayer at the Twin Cities during the American Carnage tour. I got to see Slayer with their original lineup just before Jeff Hanneman got sick. Quote

neonic Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 I always liked rock and metal. Maybe I've got that a little of my dad, he's a big Stones fan. Metallica and Bon Jovi was my favorite in the beginning, still liked it. the Latest Metallica songs are a bit ... the old stuff is better. Years later I still listen to rock and metal, and lately I discovered some bands I really like, like Therion, Avantasia, Nightwish. Those bands I really like because the music is great but also very variation. Some of my favorites are Metallica, Therion, Avantansia, Nightwish, Iced Earth, Dragonforce And of course the oldies, I still like, Bon Jovi, Iron Maiden, Guns N Roses, Black Sabbath / Ozzy... Quote
xboxtravis7992 Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Rush. I am not sure if you guys would count all their music as metal, but they do have a lot of Prog Metal stuff from both their earlier albums and their newer albums. Even if their late 80's stuff was synth-pop... Other than them though I only have a basic knowledge of metal, I do know a few Metallica stuff, and the pop hits from Ozzy and Guns N Roses. But my musical taste is a mix of almost all rock types, from The Beatles, to Queen, all the way down to modern indie/alternative stuff. Quote
obsidianheart Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 I had a bunch of steel staples in my skull for a while, does that count? Quote
Actor Builder Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 I had a bunch of steel staples in my skull for a while, does that count? I should think so! You are the most literal metalhead on this forum, that I know of. I like Johnny Cash... I should probably leave now... Quote
Nom Carver Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 I was beginning to believe I was the only AFOL into metal, my predilections go around symphonic, folk, black, gothic and progressive metal and some of my bands are these: Amon Amarth Andromeda Agalloch Arch Enemy Arcturus Arkona Ayreon Borknagar Children Of Bodom Creadle Of Filth Dimmu Borgir Empyrium Golden Dawn Gravegrom Hipocresy Immortal Kreator Moonsorrow Opeth Star One Suidakra Symphony X The Gathering Therion Tristania Trivium Vintersorg I love some deep and/or wicked lyrics with sublime music, to any real "metalheads" I extremely recommend these bands. arc Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 Surprised to see no mention of lamb of god considering their status, love their new album and can't wait to see the with anthrax in January. I really like thrash stuff like anthrax, Metallica, testament, and so on. Also dabble into some of the heavier stuff like kalmah, lamb of god, norther, etc sometimes. I like some glam metal too, dispite how cheesy some of it is. Quote
