Captain Nemo Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Are we getting more/actual Dr. Who sets--or is this just assumed? Either way the Cyberman looks amazing, absolutely amazing! I cannot wait to get that figure. Dalek not so much. He's a disappointment, but I think he could also easily be approved upon. The reason I ask about the sets is because I hope we get some--it would be a pain to army build some Cybermen and Daleks off of a Dimensions set. It would be like $15 for two figures, and the aftermarket prices will be horrendous. Quote
legofreak86 Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 (edited) Just noticed the cute mini tardis interior just behind capaldi... hope this really is part of the ideas set. . Yeah that is cool! Hope so too, really one of those daleks a cyberman, 12, Clara, missy and weeping angel along with that tardis exterior I'd be satisfied as the first doctor who set, if this game and set does well I reckon it could become a range of doctor who like scooby doo. Tariq j Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 ^^ Lets hope so! As for the Daleks, okay they're aren't as accurate as CB, yet I think being brickbuilt they have a nice Lego feel to them. Quote

AyliffeMakit Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Are we getting more/actual Dr. Who sets--or is this just assumed? So far all we know is that we're getting at least one ideas set, along with the Dimensions stuff that's already been revealed. Quote

legofreak86 Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 While on the topic of wrong hair pieces, I think the Sleepyhead hair for David Tennant would look much better than Mutt hair, but I do suppose it would clash with John Hurt. I think it might be representing either the latest tenant appearence day of the doctor or series 2 where his hair wasn't that high cause he got the high hair in series 3 but series 2 and day of the doctor it was flatter. deskp Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Anyone post this? first proper proper image of actual doctor figure etc. Large image: Quote
Borex Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 It's really sad that LEGO is doing Daleks worse than Character Building... I like lego the dalek but i'm not a Whovian at all. Those daleks you posted dont have any lego feel at all. Never would lego produce something like these. Quote
The Brick King Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 I am exstatic over the new Dimensions stuff, but yeah, they revealed Wall-E before DW, so I'm kinda mad about that. Quote
Toa of Gallifrey Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 I think the Dalek looks nice, but it reminds me more of the 80s Daleks (especially the Special Weapons Dalek from Remembrance of the Daleks) and the Paradigm Daleks from Victory of the Daleks than the Post-Time War Daleks from 2005+. I remember MOCing up a Dalek in LDD that was kinda like that but a bit thinner, so it could've been done slightly more accurate but I'm okay with it nonetheless. Quote

Leewan Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 I hope they won't use the game TARDIS in the Ideas set, it's too small, I'd like something like AndrewClark2's idea better. Quote
Scarilian Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 it's lego's style lego don't want to copy cb because they want to put their own stamp on it, they are obviously the gold daleks because they have been reintroduced and the paradigm phased out almost entirely because fans didn't like them they weren't in the following season and only appeared as in the background commanders in asylum of the daleks , if you watch the latest 2 series, the gold ones are now predominant. Lego wanted them brick built rather than moulded this allows for poseability and for them to be lego's style, these aren't supposed to be action figures. Tbh the gold ones look infinitely better than the tall bulky colourful ones. I can understand not copying and obviously i am not expecting the paradigm daleks, its not the type of Dalek i have issue with but the lack of effort put into the design of the Daleks. The Cybermen they atleast got the helmet right and made it as a new piece showing they put in effort but with the Daleks they've just used an incredibly generic flawed design that fans have been using for years with no new pieces (only a printed piece) Granted new pieces are not everything, but if we had gotten a better base then it would have atleast been something. Its just, its not even the best fan design out there as fans realised it was better having a 1 width piece in the middle rather than two ages ago and made a thinner, sleeker variant. Which also allowed both arms to move rather than just one. In terms of Lego Daleks this one is a step back to be honest, the only thing that may be of use to fans is the printed piece. About the dalek in the Dimensions pack; the mini builds are designed so that they can be rebuilt, the instructions to be found in-game. The Ideas set may have a better fig-scale dalek, like the original concept. Hopefully we do get a better version in the ideas set, though honestly i doubt we will unless they went with a variant version === Though i suppose its a case where they went with one of the ideas versions which wasnt the best choice for a Dalek design, just means i wont be army building the Daleks i guess. The height seems correct, but the width is totally off, and a 4 studs wide TARDIS would look ridiculous. A proper Lego TARDIS needs 2 studs-wide doors, which means it needs to be at least 6 studs wide. For example, look at the Ecto-1 : it's clearly too big compared to the minifigs. Way too big (and a lot of "minifig-scaled" vehicles, or buildings, are actually off-scale). But it doesn't matter, because the model does look good, and it's the only thing that matters. And that's what I want. A TARDIS that looks good, and that makes a nice display piece. The game TARDIS is, on the other hand, not impressive, it has no "presence", it's bland. It is Lego, you can't be 100% faithful to reality, and you don't need it. Some adjustments have to be done for the model to look good. In this case, you need to make it bigger than it would actually be if it were in scale. Quote
IronFish Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 The Cyberman looks good. The Dalek is ugly. Honestly, I think the Dalek just needs new molds. The ONLY non-Lego brick building stuff I've bought are the Daleks from Character building. They do not suck but the scale is wrong and it lacks that good Lego quality in the plastics. I'm still on the fence. They have a bad doctor for this. Capaldi... well, maybe he's not bad but the writing is ridiculous and the show is just bad now. It's got progressively worse since Moffat took over. If the only Doctor Minifigure available is Capaldi I probably will be skipping this. Also the Tardis is kind of ugly... Yeah, it's more to scale but I think boosting the size by even one stud horizontally would help it greatly. It's SQUISHED! I like the 12th doctor's character, but I agree that the writing isn't as good, but that isn't what this discussion is for. Quote
CM4Sci Posted July 9, 2015 Author Posted July 9, 2015 I think 11 should have Larry the barista hair. Try the Superman hair in brown? Quote

JaseTJ Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 The Barista's hair would only work if it went the other way. Anikin's hair piece works fine, really. If they were going to use anything else I'd say just make a new mold entirely. Lockhart's is too curly, Supes's has the curl which Matt Smith does not, and the CMF mechanic's hair, which came to my mind as I looked at Smith's pictures just now, would be too tall. Quote
HawkLord Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Wow, I'm on the fence with the new Dalek. I like that it's brick built, but I don't like how square it seems. I managed to make a reasonable Dalek using questionable build techniques that looks more shapely. Otherwise, if the Dalek looked better, it could be a pretty good pack with the Cyberman. Granted the price is alittle rough, we're not going to see very much Who stuff, so I'll take what I can get. Quote
The Chosen Minifigure Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 New trailer out! Also, just chiming in to say how disappointed I am that, clearly, we'll be getting just Capaldi. Unless Lego pulls a Moffat on us! Oh, and yep. It's a certainty that they'll redesign the TARDIS. Wow, I'm on the fence with the new Dalek. Personally, although it could be better, I think it's fine. Considering the fact that a new mould wouldn't look Lego enough. However, I've seen better Daleks. Quote

deskp Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 I think lego will see the value of havng doctor who as part of the lego brand, and then we'll get more sets. Quote
