Big fan of Doctor Who, very pleased to hear this.

What are the chances of getting a Lego Doctor Who videogame? If produced to the same standards as the other Lego games it would be the best Doctor Who videogame in history.

I wouldn't think so, but R2-D2 counts as a mini fig in Star Wars, meaning K-9 may count as a minifig here.

Not lately, actually. LEGO has been inconsistent over the years in what they consider a "minifigure"; at one time they counted things like astromechs and battle droids, skeletons, etc., but lately they haven't been - recent DK books have treated such figures as related to minifigures but not true minifigures themselves, while LEGO's own product descriptions say things like (for example) "Includes R2-D2™ and 16 minifigures" (for 10236 Ewok Village). I'd therefore expect the official description for this set to read something like, say (depending on what's in it, of course), "Includes K-9™ and Dalek™ figures, plus 3 minifigures: the Doctor, Rose Tyler and a Cyberman!"

I'd say it depends on whether Doctor Who blossoms into a whole theme, like Minecraft did. They're not going to produce one of those games based on a license with a single set, but I do think that out of all the pop-culture licenses to yield sets through CUUSOO / Ideas, this is the one with the strongest potential to become a full theme. I'd have thought it was even likelier than Minecraft, actually, were it not for the fact Minecraft has already become a full-blown theme.

Great news! First scooby and now the doctor. Doctor Who would make an excellent theme with all the tremendous material contained inside that little blue box. When I first saw the cmf 13 alien trooper the first thing that popped into my head was the ood.

So many aliens, creatures and robots such as the silence, cyber men, weeping angles, daleks, sontarans, Judoon, face of boe etc. to name just a few. I can't wait to see what they come up with.

Well It sounded liek the one set gets a larger release than previous ideas sets.

So they very well will use it as a test for popularity. Sortof like they did with simpsons.

This is the best news ever... except I sincerely hope that they are prepared for the popularity of this set, something they failed to do with the Research Scientists set. I worry this one will be hard to get my hands on.

Even though I'm only a new fan to Doctor Who, I'm incredibly excited that this is being made into a set. For me it's really all about the Tardis; since once you have one of those there's endless play and Moc opportunities. Anything else would be a bonus to me--although I'd also exterminate for some Lego Dalaks too!

I think that for popular pop-culture licenses, they do have a pretty good idea of how popular they'll be, and they plan accordingly. Note how the Back to the Future DeLorean time machine was available more or less continuously for about, what, a year and a half? - and the Ghostbusters Ectomobile has been out since last June and is still readily available. Minecraft did routinely sell out quickly for the first several months of availability, but I think that was just the set's extreme popularity outstripping their production capacity, not some small fraction thereof that they committed to actually making; they kept making more and bringing it back to meet demand. I think the Doctor Who set (and the WALL*E set) will be a bit easier to get than the Research Institute and the Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity Rover... though I still plan to try to get them as soon as they're available, just in case.

I haven't really warmed up to 12 yet. My favorites are 11, 4, 10, and 9 I just haven't really watched enough of the others to warm up to them yet. Still collecting DVD's of all the old Doctors, maybe I'll warm to some of the others as I watch more.

I have to imagine it'll be Ten, Eleven and/or Twelve (and I'd be very happy with any of them), but I'd love it if they did Four. Tom Baker was my first Doctor and many other people's, and for lots of folks I'd bet he's still the most iconic (it probably helps that he's the one with the longest run).

I love this so much.

As for hopes and expectations I'd love to see the fourth doctor, of my favorite doctors he is the most popular, so he's the most likely to be included.

Purchasing on sight. Literally day one.

I'm very excited. It'll be great to see where they go and which characters they include. I'm hoping for number ten the most. And for brick-built Daleks that can then be customized on. I have a few brick-built ones I've made, but the colors are limited.

Hallelujah! This is amazing! I really don't care one way or another what they do. A Capaldi set would be great, if of course they have Clara, but if they make a Matt Smith set with Amy and Rory I'll have a shut-up-and-take-my-money moment.

Ah, my source was correct...gee, though I'm not sure if all 13 doctors will make an appearance like I was told months ago.

Anyway, read between the lines in way and does everyone think that this is Minecraft MkII.......one Ideas set followed perhaps a wave or three of licensed sets ?

One can only hope........I really want to get a Tom Baker Doctor and K-9 !

Even more hope that Top Gear might happen too..........so I can have the Stig Vs Darth Vader in a display !

I guess we'll have to wait to see what the set will contain in a few months time......my guess again will be it will be shown at a Comic Con along the way in 2015.

My theory is they'll probably make a TARDIS set, with the Capaldi interior and exterior.

I would say a more simple Tardis with a collection of heroes and villains.......a cyberman would have to be among the villains.

Posted

Why? it wouddln't have to at all.

Well, they second most famous of the classic DW villains......of course number one is reserved for.......

And who thinks really......that Doctor will be number 13 as a minifig ?

The clue is in the very first post......he looks very much like number 13.

I am very excited about this set (as are my kids). I built a few Doctors from lego last month, and I'm hoping for an official 12th Doctor (that's the current guy) to complete my line-up: he's hard to do "right" with available bricks.

On that note, I'd love a 5th, 7th and 9th Doctor, as I had to resort to internet-sourced sticker designs for those Doctors - are you listening, Lego?

Andrew Clarke's TARDIS console design is excellent, and I do hope they keep it exactly as it is. If they do to a "DeLorean" on it, I won't be happy!

As others have said: Here's hoping that this is the start of a long and fruitful collaboration between Lego and the BBC.
