Come on now. The war doctor is NOT numbered.

And yes the image is 12th doctor. Thats not supposed to be a secret.

same first look.

Regardless of how you number them the war doctor used up a regeneration. Based on the story the deadly assassin 12 regens and 13 bodies making Capaldi the last one.

Nope smith was the last one, due to the regen hand of 10. did you not watch the most recent regen? he was given a new set of regenerations. Capaldi is the first of the new ones.

No I missed most of that episode and it appears I missed a great deal. After Amy and Rory left my interest dropped. I'm not a big fan of Clara. I'll have to catch up, this might get me there.

I can't say I'm a fan of a set with 13 different doctors in it. One or two different incarnations with a companion or two and some classic bad guys would be perfect. While I've enjoyed Capaldi as the Doctor the scripts and stories have been pretty awful lately so I hope the set embraces classic Who rather than the current series.

I've read some speculation that this might turn into a Minecraft-like ongoing theme, but I have some doubts about how this would work. Minecraft had a lot of possibilities for larger set locations, but Doctor Who doesn't have many larger build options other than the Tardis. It's not like other licensed themes where every superhero has their signature vehicle, or the Star Wars sets with its infinite variety of spaceships. Doctor Who has one spaceship, the Tardis, and no other recurring vehicles or even recurring locations.

So that would mean the builds would have to be genral locations, which would be things like 'abandoned quarry' and 'council estate'. Or the street corner with lamp, which is shown in the "Doctor Who and Companions" picture.

The Scooby Doo sets seem to be taking locations from specific episodes, which could work and makes me think of things like a carriage from the Orient Express. But while something like 'Mystery Mansion' works well as a set even if you're not familiar with the episode of the cartoon, a flying train carriage doesn't work as well out of context. (Which, I have to admit, wouldn't prevent all of the Doctor Who fans from buying it anyway.)

Theres the dalek space ships you see quite often. theres bessie? the doctors car.

When we comapre it to minecraft it might not be in the sense of the full range of playsets.

But more.. small sets as excuses for the doctor minifigures. Like the minecraft microbuilds. Novelty type sets.

Was really hoping Lego would pull through with this!

I cannot wait to see what they've got in store for the set. I think I could live with the 12 Doctor and Clara if push comes to shove, but I would love to see some of the different iterations at some point. Once you've got the Tardis it's only a matter of adding different locations and characters.

I opened Eurobricks, and what fell upon my eyes? My two favorite things, Lego and Doctor Who combined, I almost had a total brick meltdown. I've been wanting this forever, but figured, if Lego could get the license for DW, we'd have already seen sets for it. I'm hoping we get every doctor, including the war doctor, the companions, and the main villains (Cybermen, Daleks, Weeping angels, Ood  ) and threw in some episode specific figures (example: British Daleks, less likely, Sutekh and the "are you my mommy" kid would both be great, although the latter has no chance). If this become a theme, I would have to own every set, I can just see the UCS Dalek and K9 now.

It just occurred to me, the Simpsons contrived to have an entire Lego episode, and Top Gear has promotional videos of them all in Lego... what are the odds of Doctor Who contriving to somehow do an entire episode in Lego?

Posted

Not a cannon episode.

Unless Missy reduced the people of Dargonaliauskintaeneglodarmuphuslimponcrianakarlinia-16 into Lego...

SQUEE! Doctor Who!

Now all is right with the world, as the only 4 things that matter are in lego: Doctor Who, Marvel, The Simpsons and Fantasy. The rest of the world can go f***k themselves, I'll be in my house and never coming out again except for food. And, of course, more sets. Which must happen.

My issues with Doctor Who Lego are the following;

- The show is still going and introducing new characters/incarnations of the Doctor constantly, the sets will be outdated very quickly

- This is a licensed theme, so not sure why a Lego Ideas member gets a share of the profits for simply suggesting that they do Doctor Who sets.

- Their are a limited number of sets that could be based on Doctor Who other than the Tardis

- Their are a limited number of recogniseable villains that would appeal to both older and new fans, other than the Daleks and Cybermen

Best option to make it work would be a 'Collectable Minifigure Series' similar to the Simpsons. You have the 13 incarnations of the Doctor in one wave, the next wave you include 13 villains, then companions, etc...

  1. Davros
  2. Dalek
  3. Cyber Controller
  4. Cyberman
  5. Weeping Angel
  6. Sycorax
  7. Sontaran
  8. The Silence
  9. Auton
  10. Silurian
  11. Ice Warrior
  12. The Master (Male)
  13. The Master (Female)

Either way, will only be picking up some of the figures if anything.

Point 1: Yeah, but 4 years is how long the last 2 Doctors stuck around. Besides, they release heaps of sets each year, a lot of which get outdated fast.

Point 2: Happened before in Minecraft, Ghostbusters, DeLorean, Wall-E and another I think.

Point 3: Wave 1- TARDIS exterior with 3 daleks (12.99), Totters Lane with Cybermen (19.99), Coal Hill school with assorted (39.99), Dalek Spaceship/ The Day of The Doctor set (79.99), TARDIS interior (99.99). That's just the top of my head.

Point 4: Many types of Dalek, Several types of Cybers, Angels, Autons, Davros, Various Masters, Sillurians, Silence, Adipose, Ood, Judoon, Zygons, Vashta Nerada, Clockwork Droids (arguably), Robot Santas, Killer Christmas Trees ect, ect.

However, I agree with the CMF idea. :classic:

I only really liked the older show before it came back so I am hoping they go classic although I dont think they will. I was also think Lego might just start this as a line not an ideas set as the does limit it a lot. Getting all 13 doctors would be great and the right thing to do but not sure how now.

Point 1; True, but if its a Lego Ideas (Unless its like Minecraft) then we'll get one set and then its done. That might change if they made a wave instead, but that still relies on whenever a new Doctor or companion appears that we'd get them in set form.

Point 2; True, i suppose its more a complaint against Idea's for licensed themes as a whole

Point 3; Several of those dont have the same iconic value anymore, sure Trotters Lane and Coal Hill were important in the original series, but in the revived series Trotters Lane has appeared once and Coal Hill Secondary school is just where Clara works for a while in series 8. While the Tardis option is possible, the Dalek Spaceship has been through atleast 3 different designs recently interior and exterior wise (all being fairly generic flying saucers)

Point 4; Several of those listed are new series only, thus is the issue. If we get new series stuff then everyone will expect every future villain to get a set, which isnt likely. Its more likely they'll just pick the more iconic that have appeared in both old and revived; The Master, Ice Warriors, Silurians, Cybermen, Cyber Controller, Davros, Zygons, Autons, Macra and Daleks

Let me think..... from the newest series and the specials alone they could easily make: a T-rex wreaking havock near big ben, an underground sword/gunfight with clockwork droids. A sword duel between the sheriff of nottingham and robin hood above a pot of boiling gold studs, a huge dalek with an interior people can move around in ala into the dalek, dalek saucers, the orient express, victorian Horse chase with a carriage, galifreyan citadel, dalek attack ships, trenzalore clocktower with lots of daleks, Unit carrier plane with lots of cybermen attacking it, the bank of carabraxos, The tomb of the doctor in a huge giant grown tardis.

Then counting the rest of the revivial: Dalek Fleets, pandorica, stone henge, the british museum, the crashed ship of the byzantium, the maze of the dead, davros's orb space ship, the sycorax warship, 15th century venice with vampires and a huge palace, the progenitor machine with the paradigm daleks, WW2 spitfires in space, Demon's run, Area 52 (huge pyramid in egypt), motorcycle chase through post ww2 germany, pompei with stone monsters, a staircase leading up into the sky above victorian london, the silents time machine, giant spider woman and robot santas, sontaran ships, unit valiant helicarrier, the empire state building. The possiblities are limitless. and lets not even go into the classic era sets which could be made. If this was sucessful Lego would be making sets until Doctor Who ended which won't be for a long time yet, it could be as large a theme as star wars and easily as sucessful.

While I agree that a CMF would probably be the way to go, they could definitely make sets. There are plenty of episodes with notable locations on earth, and most of the recurring aliens have either a spaceship or space base of some sort.

For example, a set with Stonehenge could include a big cubic box, some Romans, and a Dalek/Cyberman or two (with their ships if they wanted to make it really big).

I wouldn't complain *shrug* :P

I just hope that if they do make more sets beyond the ideas one (which will include Capaldi/Clara, if BBC has anything to say about it. They wouldn't pass up such an opportunity to market the current show with toys for earlier regenerations), they better not devote the whole wave to Capaldi. One current set would hopefully be enough to please BBC, and then they could work their way back with a set per Doctor or something :P

EDIT: got ninja'd a bit there. Obviously we're on the same track, though, with Stonehenge and all. Though I didn't fully realize the potential for historical type sets, like Robin Hood. Those would make a looot of good sets.

Indeed, the point is clear though, the potential is infinite if they play their cards right.

Firstly I am not sure how world wide Doctor Who is but its not star wars (don't get me wrong I am a bigger who fan). Star Wars was 3 iconic films with iconic location and scenes. Yes there of lots of sets that could be made but there are a lot less iconic things about Doctor Who, you have the doctors a few better know enemies and the tardis.

I think a one off set and an two cmf waves would work well as there are a few enemies that would work well for army builds and that way we can get all the doctors.

Doctor Who has millions of followers around the world, the anniversary episode was broadcast in 94 countries simultaneously, it took in 10 million pounds in the UK box-office alone and thats just one performance in every cinema at the same time. Around the world it was shown in more than 1,500 cinemas. Its estimated to have been watched by over 80 million people worldwide that night alone. In the USA 10,000 tickets for the cinema screenings were sold out in 28 minutes flat. The ammount of merchandise sold worldwide is jaw dropping for a tv show. The cinema takings apparently worldwide were akin to the amount that a blockbuster film makes in its opening weekend worldwide. 2,400 people of different countries attended the sold out fan celebration in london in 2013. So it may not be as large as star wars but it is HUGELY popular, probably the most watched Tv programme in the most countries around the world. It was subtitled or dubbed into 15 different languages.

Going on this information i think its very likely due to the response it gets and its nature of continuing far longer than any movie franchise (other than bond), i mean when all those movie franchises have met their end, there will still be doctor who as it never stops it just changes and reinvents itself, actors change, sets change, visuals change, stories change and it endures. If thats not a potential monumental moneymaker for TLG i don't know what is.

I want it. I need a Tardis. I would like Doctor 4-my first Doctor, but I quite like 9, 10 and 11. I haven't seen 12 yet. I want too many companions to count.

No one is getting rich off an approved Ideas set. You get "1% of the total net sales of the product".

I'm hoping for newer Doctors and companions (please can we get Donna).

Posted

9 and 10 + Rose

11 and 12 + Clara Would be good.

6 Figures might be abit much, but that way you cover all 4 new-who doctors aswell as companions for them.
