Amazing Bricks Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 (edited) I really like this set! Although I'm not a huge fan of the show, I love all the things we get in this set. I don't know why they decided to give the purple jacket to the twelfth doctor. They could've just gave us the one in the dimensions pack. I love the eleventh doctor and the new face is a nice touch. It's interesting they are reusing the female resistance soldier face again. All for $60 is a bit too much. Edited October 6, 2015 by amazingbricks Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 I love it! I'm so glad they kept the fold-out feature of AndrewClark2's original concept (of course, that was probably the key reason they opted for his project over the competing one). I will say part of me really wishes they'd used his suggestion of one "new" Doctor (somewhere from 9 through 12) and one "classic" (1 through 8), and included Four. However, I do see value in having sequentially adjacent Doctors for regeneration play. And it'll all be fine once we get more sets in the theme. Okay, here's a total pipe dream fantasy of what I'd like to see: LEGO Ideas Set #12 - LEGO Doctor Who: The TARDIS - A TARDIS model, as seen in the proposal, with both a folding exterior and a separately attachable interior (console, etc.), with Creator- / The LEGO Movie-like "2 in 1" functionality: additional parts and instructions to build the interior as either the 12th Doctor's TARDIS or the 4th's. Includes minifigures of the Doctor (4th and 12th incarnations, of course), plus appropriate companions: young Sarah Jane Smith and Clara Oswald, plus brick-built K9; also a couple brick-built Daleks and one or two Cyberman minifigures. LEGO Doctor Who: Bessie - The 3rd Doctor's Earthly vintage motorcar. Includes the 3rd Doctor and the Brigadier. LEGO Doctor Who: Journey's End - A large flagship set, featuring a full interior for the 9th / 10th Doctor's TARDIS, plus a facade of the exterior front, and a portion of Dalek vessel. Includes two versions of the 10th Doctor (one in brown suit, one in blue), Rose Tyler, Jackie Tyler, Mickey Smith, Captain Jack Harkness, older Sarah Jane Smith, Martha Jones, Donna Noble, Davros and three Daleks. LEGO Minifigures: Doctor Who Series 1 - Sixteen individually blind-bagged minifigures, including all the remaining incarnations of the Doctor himself (1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, War, 9, and 11), plus Susan Foreman, Ace McShane, Amy Pond, Rory Williams, Madame Vastra, Jenny Flint, and Strax. That should be a good start... :D I think just about all of this could still work, aside from having a different figure selection in the Ideas set and having Four replace Eleven in my original Minifigures series 1 lineup. If we just add a second Minifigures series and, say, battle packs for Cybermen, Weeping Angels, Sontarans, Zygons, etc. of course including more Daleks, I think we'd have the basics of an excellent Doctor Who theme. Long may it run! Quote
Kintobor Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 (edited) Super impressed with the set. It's even got Eleven's fez! I can't find a lot of faults with the build. It's a well done looking Tardis, and the selection of characters is impressive. The Daleks are well built, and the Weeping Angel is really cool. I'm a little disappointed in the Twelfth Doctor's outfit, as it's really situational without the bow tie, but I can see the inclusion of it since it's the one used before Eleven regenerates into Twelve, although perhaps the inclusion of the bow tie would've made it better. Speaking of Eleven, the best figure, hands down, is the Eleventh Doctor. I was really shocked when I saw Matt's character in the set picture, and it's a stupendous figure. It just oozes personality, and it's got a lot of what makes that doctor memorable in the design. I hope Lego does more with this license and I hope this set sells well, because it's a gold mine of excellent set ideas. However, if we only get one, I'm glad it's this well put together. Dannylonglegs Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 (edited) No Doctor Ten? Meh. Message me when we get Tennant and Donna or Martha! (Or really anyone but Clara. ) Great set though. Glad to see it went through! Love the Weeping Angel. As a fan of the show (pre-Moffat takeover) I'd hate to pass this one up, but I don't know If I'll get it as I'm not attached to any of the Doctors therein. I love Peter Capaldi (The Thick of It! ), but couldn't stomach the first few episodes with his doctor so I actually stopped watching the show after a long slump in entertainment during Matt's tenure. Ah well. The set looks good though and should be a great buy for those who like these two doctors! ~Insectoid Aristocrat Edited October 6, 2015 by Dannylonglegs Quote
kevkipo Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Wow, no fan of the show, but i'd imagine fans will be VERY pleased with this! i mean we'll get Cybermen with Dimensions and another Capaldi variant, then a Weeping Angel, Another doctor, Clara, 2 more Daleks, K-9 in Dimensions, and his Tardis! Beautifull build! Bravo Lego, Bravo! Quote
Steph 104th Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 I absolutely love this set, I love the way the TARDIS is its own if you want it to be. I have but only one complaint, those Daleks, I'm not sold on their look, especially their side view. Quote
jonwil Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Maybe NYCC will be the Ghostbusters Firehouse... As for the Dr Who set, "Shut up and take my money". Wish it could be "Shut up and take my money NOW" but no, LEGO have to not release it until December :( Also in regards to whats included (which clothes, what baddies etc) they need to put SOME things in the Dimensions sets that you cant get anywhere else, otherwise they wont sell as many Dimensions packs. In terms of the Dimensions packs, I am a Who fan but not enough of a Who fan to want to pay $50 (price in my country for level packs) just to get the shirt/pants/face, K-9 print tiles and Tardis print tiles. Same with the Cyberman pack ($25 is too much just to get the Cyberman) But the Ideas set itself, YES PLEASE. Quote
SandMirror38 Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 First unboxing/review! The different shades of blue on the Tardis... ewwwww  Quote
Kintobor Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Bwahaha! That was great! I'm now more in love with the Eleventh Doctor figure. The Daleks look a lot better too! Quote
CF Mitch Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Holy crap. I've only recently started watching Dr. Who (since somewhere with the 11th Doctor) and wouldn't call myself a fan yet (based on knowledge about it and such) but I am so getting this set Regards, Mitch Quote
raminator Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Ok...So we are getting dual-molded legs here. You can clearly see the black and red parts in the inner legs. But now there´s something making me really currious! If you look closely, you will notice that there´s a small "gap"/seem between the red upper legs and the black lower legs. Either this is a rendering error or it looks like the lower legs could be a removable seperate pieces. What do you think? Dr. Who Chick Legs by bricks @ raminator, on Flickr Quote
KristofBD Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Additionally, it's a bit funny that they provide a side-print for the legs of Clara, but not the two Doctors... But hey that's about the only 'flaw' I can detect: this is a superset. And have never even watched the series Quote
BritishBrickFan Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 it's a rendering error, just have a look at the Youtube video to see the Clara figure properly :) Quote

Sir Gareth Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 (edited) Why's the TARDIS two different shades of blue?... Edited October 6, 2015 by Sir Gareth Quote
LegoFjotten Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Could it be the video was produced with a non-final version of the Tardis? The window in Dark Blue is a new color, right? I does ruin the look quite a bit if it is in regular blue. Quote

Numbuh1Nerd Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 (edited) This set just makes me want a whole theme! They don't usually make new molds for Ideas sets, do you think they might be doing a theme like what happened with Minecraft? Ok...So we are getting dual-molded legs here. CM4Sci Posted October 6, 2015 Author Posted October 6, 2015 Must be a rendering error. I wouldn't worry about it. Quote
LEGODalekbuster523 Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 The set looks great but the only drawback is that the Daleks don't look as good as the Dimensions one. I'd have preferred it if the Ideas set used the same design. Quote
8BrickMario Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 There's not event the slightest chance of two-part legs. Quote

I haven't stared at either too extensively, but my initial reaction to the ones in the set was "Yes, they're not too blocky like the Dimensions pack!" Quote
