8BrickMario Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 There's a marvelous invention called DVD... Having watched the regeneration scene, I'm impressed by the accuracy. Clara's outfit is spot-on, but her eyes and hair aren't captured too well. The purple coat was hard to see in the scene itself, but I'll assume it's there. I don't really like 11's hair, though. It's not even a close match for the smooth hairstyle Matt Smith wears. Perhaps Larry's hair would be better, but there's no perfect solution. The Daleks look pretty good, and I don't mind the scale discrepancy with the Dimensions one. Over the series, the designs and sizes have altered, so they could simply be from different time periods in the show. As for the red-handled Screwdriver, I'm guessing that was just a test, as the bulb wasn't decorated in any way. Quote
LEGODalekbuster523 Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 It looks like the actual Tardis might not be complete all the way around. We have only ever seen three sides to it and the fourth might only attach to the console. i can't imagine the BBC would be happy with a set that doesn't give you all four TARDIS walls... Quote
engineermax Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 This looks awesome. I do have some issues with it, most notably Capaldi. I like the dimensions Capaldi better. I really hope this turns into its own theme. Quote

DarthHank Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Fantastic set. I can't wait for this to come out. My only problem is the doors don't look like they open, but I don't care that much. Should be fun to mod all the different interiors. I've heard whispers about a collectible minifigure series, hope they're true. That would earn LEGO a lot of money, for sure. Would love all the Doctors, main companions, and notorious villains. Quote
DarthPotato Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 The purple coat was hard to see in the scene itself, but I'll assume it's there. I've noticed this as well. The coat wasn't really purple, was it? I always thought it was just dark brown. Not that I mind too much (purple is an awesome LEGO color and it makes the outfit look really nice), but I don't think it's completely accurate. Quote

Series 1 could be all the Doctors, series 2 the most popular companions and series 3 the most popular monsters. Quote
8BrickMario Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 I think they'd split it up a bit. Series 1 would have a few spots left for more after the thirteen Doctors, after all. But I think the companions, Masters, and monsters would be great. A CMF Angel would be a great way to give it proper wings and to amass a proper group to surround the TARDIS. Cybermen would also be a great choice, and I'm sure the Silence would also appear. Since there's no restrictions here, I think it's possible, but it might not reach three series. Quote

I think they could easily reach three series without people getting fed up of the same license getting the CMF treatment. Doctor Who has more variety in its characters than any license. Quote
DuckBricks Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Really? I think they could easily reach three series without people getting fed up of the same license getting the CMF treatment. Doctor Who has more variety in its characters than any license. Yeah, I expect a CMF series even more then sets, as DW has always been character-based... New Sonic Screwdriver molds for each of the different doctors would be tricky, though... Quote

dmarvin Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 I agree; they failed on Clara's hair. The identifying feature is her outfit. Other than that, she just looks common. Quote
IronFish Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Can anybody think of a hair piece that would look better on Clara (that's currently available in dark brown/reddish brown)? Quote
DuckBricks Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Can anybody think of a hair piece that would look better on Clara (that's currently available in dark brown/reddish brown)? At first I though Black Widow's hair, but after checking Bricklink, I have a few possible alternatives: If this came in brown, it would maybe fit, but it works a lot better for Rose. Perhaps this is a good alternative? I think this would also look fairly good and fit well. Those are really the only working ones that come in brown... Quote

deskp Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Also, 11 should have dark brown hair, lego gave him reddish brown hair. Atleast the piece exist dark brown already. Quote
rollermonkey Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 It looks like the actual Tardis might not be complete all the way around. We have only ever seen three sides to it and the fourth might only attach to the console. Nope. If you look at the picture where they show the console/box attachment you can see that all 4 sides are there. Requires the police box signs on the sides to fold up and down, but the two parts come together to form the 4th side. It's pretty fantastic all around. I just hope that all those parts are printed and not stickers, otherwise it's going to be a massive sticker sheet. Is it December 1st yet? Quote
jonwil Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Are there any stickers in the Dr Who set or is it all printed? Quote

Blondie-Wan Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 I just hope that all those parts are printed and not stickers, otherwise it's going to be a massive sticker sheet. Are there any stickers in the Dr Who set or is it all printed? I'm sure they'll be printed. For one thing, most CUUSOO / Ideas sets use only printed parts, not stickers. Only three have stickers at all, and of those three, two are the very first two (Shinkai 6500 and Hayabusa), from when the whole program was just getting started and was a lot smaller; the other, The Big Bang Theory, still uses a ton of prints, and only two stickers - both of which, it's been pointed out in discussion of that set, go on pieces TLG seldom if ever has printed on before, so it's possible they don't have appropriate mechanisms in place yet for printing on those parts. Secondly, the parts all look printed in the official images. Granted that they're all renders rather than photos of real brick, but TLG's official set image renders still clearly, scrupulously show when elements are stickered, with visible edges indicating the additional layer atop a brick or tile, and none of the official images betray any sign of this. I'm sure all or nearly all the 40+ decorated elements in this set are prints, including the exterior signage. Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 I think the thing I'm most excited about for this set, aside from an official model of the iconic TARDIS (the interior is far less significant) is the zipline hook on the consol. Clever. I love that piece... although I can't remember the last time it was used as an actual zip line hook. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Oh, by the way, re: the updated initial post: 21304 Doctor Who - $59.99 - Released December 1st [*]Includes 12th Doctor, Clara, 11th Doctor, Dalek (x2), and Weeping Angel Minifigures [*]Contains 632 Pieces [*]This is the 11th released Lego IDEAS Set This will actually be the 12th, not the 11th: 1. Shinkai 6500 2. Hayabusa 3. Minecraft Micro World 4. Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine 5. NASA Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity Rover 6. Ghostbusters Ectomobile 7. Exo-Suit 8. Research Institute 9. Birds 10. The Big Bang Theory 11. WALL•E WALL•E 12. Doctor Who TARDIS If this info came from LEGO itself, I'm guessing it's counting from the order of the review batches these sets came from and not the releases of the actual sets, since Doctor Who and Companions was in an earlier batch than the one with WALL•E (it was actually the same one as Birds and The Big Bang Theory), but held over for further consideration and announced with WALL•E. Either that, or they must not be counting Shinkai 6500 since it wasn't a worldwide release. But anyway, this set is the 12th to come out of CUUSOO / Ideas (really, it should just be called the 7th Ideas set, since the first five were CUUSOO sets, but never mind). Quote
