BritishBrickFan Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 That's really stupid if so, especially with a set like this being released close to Christmas that lots of people will want to buy. They shouldn't release sets this close to Christmas if they're not going to let people ensure they can get a copy by pre-ordering. what did people do before pre-orders eh?? it's simple, Lego will announce the launch date and you either go to a shop on the day, or buy online.... simples :) Quote
LEGODalekbuster523 Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 (edited) a second Weeping Angle. A 'Weeping Angle'? "Don't turn in a 360 degree angle. Turn in a 360 degree angle and you're dead. They're fast; faster at calculating angles than you can believe. Don't rotate your arms 180 degrees, don't turn your head 60 degrees and don't turn in a 360 degree angle!" I think LEGO knows what they're getting into here. With a combination of two enormous fanbases, LEGO won't underestimate demand. And seriously? Pre-ordering a LEGO set? What's wrong with that? It's very useful when things are limited edition. what did people do before pre-orders eh?? it's simple, Lego will announce the launch date and you either go to a shop on the day, or buy online.... simples :) ...Which results in a mass panic on launch day and someone missing out. That's why pre-orders are useful: it guarantees you a copy. Edited October 10, 2015 by LEGODalekbuster523 Quote

LEGO is a toy first and a collector's item second, so I think if they offered preorders it'd be a bit silly. Imagine preordering a Monster High doll. I can see the usefulness in it, but I just try my luck in stores And angles look so acute when they're weeping...but you're totally right, you'd be obtuse to look away. It's supplementary knowledge everyone should know. Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 Speaking of prints, there must be about 35 printed parts in here! No stickers either? Sign me up! There should be over 40, actually - three for each of the four humanoid minifigures plus two for the Daleks (that's 14), eight for the four exterior Police Box signs, eight more for the windows, and two more for the door signs (that's another 18), one for the interior door, and upwards of a dozen for the controls and displays on the main console and off on the railings - all together, the set must have between forty and fifty printed parts, most of which are exclusive to this set or at least debuting in it, though a bunch of the control panel tiles are classic elements used in lots of sets. Wasn't there one for the UCS Falcon? Can't remember honestly. Regardless they almost never do it, if ever. I think there was indeed one for the UCS Millennium Falcon, but then that was a special case as it was a $500 set. There was also one for LEGO Universe, but then videogames in general are treated a little differently from regular sets, and as with many LEGO videogames there was a preorder bonus. This was was just unusual in the bonus coming directly from LEGO itself rather than GameStop or Toys 'R' Us or whatever. Quote

In fact, I'd rather have the option. Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 It actually would make sense for many of the Ideas sets, I agree, but I don't think it's necessary for the licensed ones nearly as much as the non-licensed ones, like the MSL Curiosity Rover or the Research Institute. I'm sure TLG is well aware Doctor Who has a substantial following and plans to keep the set around a while. That said, I do think anyone concerned not just about getting the set at all but specifically getting it in time for Christmas this year would do well to order it ASAP on December 1. I'm sure this set will stay in production and remain available for at least a year, if not longer (like the Minecraft, Back to the Future and Ghostbusters CUUSOO/ Ideas sets before it), but it's quite possible (not certain, but possible) the initial run will sell out quickly, and leave the set on backorder or something for most of December. That's exactly why The LEGO Group should do pre-orders. That way they could work out the demand to at least ensure everybody who orders from The LEGO Store gets the set. Hulk_Smash Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 Not really, although I suppose it depends on which shop you go to. Quote
Tariq j Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 I wouldn't say it was cheeky, I've done it with Slave I. Quote
eric729 Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 Back in 2012, it was possible to preorder the winter wave of Star Wars sets, they even gave you a special poster if you did! Quote
Actor Builder Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 That seems much less "cheeky" than radically hoping that LEGO would invest in a preordering service for a few people. I think it is much better to be friends with a guy at a store than to be friends with the website coding. Anyway, I've only seen one episode of Dr. Who, so I'm not really the target audience, but this set looks cool. I don't understand the plot really, but it looks nice. I might end up buying one eventually, just for the printed parts really. Quote

Muahaha...laughed my megablocks off. BTT:I`m super exited for the Doctor Who Set.I`m a Whovian for a few Years now and always thought it would be cool to have the Doctor`s Adventures as Lego Sets. This thought even started WAY before i started collecting Lego again. Sure,60 Euros is a big Price but i think it`s worth it. The only concern i have is where to put that Weeping Angel?I definately need to build a Holding Chamber with mirrored Walls :D Speaking of the Angel, since i`m not yet fully integrated in the whole Lego Scene (like naming all those Bricks, knowing all Abbreviations etc...) are the Wings poseable?Looks kinda weird with the Wings always stretched out to both Sides.Mostly the Wings are just folded behind the Back in a resting Position. About the Pre-Order Thing:I know it`s frustrating if a rare and sought after Item is sold out but it also reduces kinda the Fun of the whole "Hunting" Thing, right? I just hope to get my Copy of the Set and trust in TLG to have enough Sets in Stock to satisfy everyone.I mean the TBBT-Set is still for sale. Don`t get exterminated.... Quote
