Jern92 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 So how do we tell if a copy of Wall-E is the old or fixed one? I bought one last week and just opened it up yesterday, and there wasn't a supplementary booklet with the fix included, but then they might've just printed new booklets anyway. Anyone knows? Quote
Actor Builder Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 So how do we tell if a copy of Wall-E is the old or fixed one? You build it. If his neck is like a crazed spinning pair of binoculars, it needs help. Quote

Earlier I thought it would so I'd already sent an email to Customer Service, but they replied saying that they'd run out of the parts for the fix and that they'd only be available on the 15th of January. Probably wait till after the 15th, since if you call now they won't have it anyway. I'm assuming if a ball joint is used for the neck instead of hinges then it's the right one? Quote

Celery Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 I called and few weeks ago they told me it was back ordered but didn't give me a date, they said it would ship once back in stock. Quote
Markalus Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Just bought one today, I haven't opened it yet; but it has 3 pieces of tape which is what FBTB indicated was the post recall issue. I am excited to build it when I get home tonight!! I don't think the number of pieces of seal tape is any indication. Mine only had two pieces of tape and it was the "fixed" version with ball joint. The instructions have been reprinted and the "new" parts were not in separate bags. The neck is very sturdy. Production units could vary by region though...I'm in Australia which comes via European distribution. Quote

Got mine in Malaysia and it seems to be reprinted and had the 'fixing' bricks incorporated into the existing packs and the 'offending' parts removed. Quote
Brickr Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Got mine in Malaysia and it seems to be reprinted and had the 'fixing' bricks incorporated into the existing packs and the 'offending' parts removed. Same here, I wonder if the original set will be worth more in the future, even with it's 'issues'. Quote
anothergol Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 I recently got 2 Ideas sets, Doctor Who & Wall-E, and was really surprised by this one. I won't comment on "the flaw" since I too got the fixed version (& I find it weird to call flimsiness a flaw in a set that has more to do with a MOC than a toy for kids). I just love how this thing sits on a desk, it's spot-on. I hate Disney, I haven't seen Wall-E, while I kinda enjoy Dr Who. And yet, I was disappointed with Dr Who's set, which ends up being a bunch of things that has more to do with a playset than something for the adults it (also) targets. It didn't even include David Tennant which is a sin. But Wall-E, it's big, it's one solid chunk, it's really great. It's also one of the rare Ideas sets that Lego enhanced - the shaping around the eyes is just great, better than in the original version. It's not flawless (I wonder why the arms has those 2 1x4's instead of a 2x4 which could have been printed), but it's a set I didn't regret buying. I hope Johnny Five will be accepted & be this great (I'd be Lego I'd redesign it bigger). Quote
jonwil Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 I recently acquired WALL-E (parts only as a mystery prize won at a LEGO event). The parts I have match with this set of instructions: http://cache.lego.com/bigdownloads/buildinginstructions/6146260.pdf Can anyone tell me if there are any fixes out there related to the head or neck (or any other part of the set) and if so where I can find the instructions for said fixes and a list of the parts I need for them? (due to how I acquired the set and where I suspect it came from I dont want to go asking TLG for fix kits or replacement parts) Up to step 108 and so far its been a very fun build :) Quote
sunhuntin Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 After building the Cinderella castle last week, and then seeing this thread, I have decided to finally build my set. It was bought early on in the run, so likely will have the neck issue. Would there have been a time limit on requesting correct parts at all? Quote
TheLegoDr Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 ^I'm sure if years go by, then yes. But that set is relatively new. I would think you'd be okay to request the fix it bag. I bought mine when it first came out and built it this summer. Floppy neck syndrome galore, so I talked to their CS and they sent out a new bag and instruction page showing where to put the new pieces. I might have done something wrong since I didn't even use all of the pieces they sent me to fix it, but it holds its position much better now. Quote

Actor Builder Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 This just reminded me that I still haven't called them about my Wall-E neck problem either. Poor little guy. Quote

I actually got my Delorian "Shield" replacement a pretty long time after the set was discontinued, because I only learned about the replacement part after that. I had to jump through a few hoops, and the customer service people were confused (But very nice as usual) and I eventually got the correct Flux Capacitor print, so it is possible sometimes to wait. Not a good plan, but it can be done. Quote

jonwil Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 Does anyone have a parts listing for the neck fix kit? Quote
sunhuntin Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 Thanks for the replies. Will maybe start the build this afternoon and see how things go. Even if they don't have parts still, they could always be Bricklinked, I guess? Quote

GeekByKnight Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 While the neck fix is a huge improvement, does anyone else feel like it's still a little flawed? Mine seems to drop forward a lot, with his head being too heavy for the ball joint. Quote

I haven't tried it yet, but the friction joints used in Bionicle sets should help the ball joint be a bit more stable. It will make the neck a little bit longer though, but not to much. Quote

Custom solutions where proposed by people before Lego did their own version, and if I recall correctly people said that custom fix was better. I don't have a link, though. It might've been on Brickset or FBTB. Quote
