Bionic-Sun Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Being a TFOL ('93), I'm not too bothered about the colours. The grey/bley debate is not of my time. I really don't the passion about these colours. Still, could someone please post pictures to show the difference between Grey/Bley and Brown/Frown? Much appreciated. Quote
Hinckley Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 lets just hope LEGO doesn't change the color of black... right now the official chart says the black is C:60, M:0, Y:0, K:100. in whatever case, i think black is a staple colors for all themes and styles of building, it would be a really shame to see more than one variation. BM, do you have a link to this official CMYK chart? Thanks in advance *sweet* Quote
Paradosis Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Hopefully someone can provide a clearer picture, but this might give you an idea of the difference in color. The difference is more obvious in better light. Quote
xwingyoda Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Come on people, when will you get over with that !! Its really annoying to read the same rant (and/or crap) over and over and over again >:-( I do prefer the new colors and I'm happy the old ones are gone !! G if you want old colours, go bricklinck the parts you need and stop complaining, whinning (and less polite words) !! I'm that close to close that annoying (once more, what an understatment) topic (which has been written soooo many times in the last...3 freaking years), but reading Hinckley's and Sinner's crazy posts (once again :-P ) make me leave that open (at least for now) *yoda* Quote
Shadows Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 I'm never able to get worked up about it until I need a part in either the old or new colour and all I can find is the opposite. Then I'm furious! >:-) Ok, really, it doesn't drive me that mad, despite my entire childhood collection of castles and pirates being the classic colours. What does bug me is watching the change happen in the middle of Star Wars, meaning two Imperial Officers from different years no longer match. Of course, if we're going to squabble about minifigs ... YELLOW OR FLESH??? Huh? Huh? :-| Talk about a good subject for Whack-a-Fig, we've got one dead horse here. Quote
CopMike Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 - The change was badly done. - The reasons were (to me at least) understandable. - If I were a CC guy/girl I would have been real mad. - There were oppertunitys to buy old grey from LEGO for a time after the change. - BL still up & running. - I like the new greys better, both light & dark bluish. Ok, that said - bring on the flamethrowers >:-)! More On copmike Quote
xwingyoda Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Ok, that said - bring on the flamethrowers >:-)! And I'll bring the Marshmallows Kumbaya my lord, kumbayaKumbaya my lord, kumbaya Kumbaya my lord, kumbaya Oh lord, kumbaya *yoda* Quote
Starwars4J Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 And I'll bring the Marshmallows *yoda* Careful :-P Quote
Norro Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Well on behalf of the Euros I'll have to side with Grey X-D ! Seriously I'm still ticked about this... but I like to think I don''t rant unless invited ;-) Having my old collection made redundant would just have upset me if the new colour had been a decent alternative... but as it is the bleys do not work for any natural tone (in my opinion, naturally). If I was a town builder perhaps I could appreciate them... but even towns have sections which look old. I virtually stopped buying from Lego in 2004, I would only buy sets with less than 10% bley. Now I'm seriously considering getting rid of the bley I've accumulated and trying to replace it with old grey. Effectively Lego made a full time BLer of me ;-) As Always God Bless, Nathan Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Meh. personally, I prefer the older gray, as I have a lot of it in sets I bought on e-Bay, and when you have two different kinds of gray in a city, then..... *wacko* That said, you have to remember one thing- lego is a company that only care about making money, not losing money, finding more ways to make money and , if the have nothing else to do, stay at the top of their category, so that change is for them and not us. SirNadroj Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 (edited) Is it rown or frown? (I like frown better) X-D (The name I mean, I hate the colour!) Edited July 25, 2007 by SirNadroj Quote
blueandwhite Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Come on people, when will you get over with that !! Its really annoying to read the same rant (and/or crap) over and over and over again >:-( *yoda* You know that this is ALWAYS going to be an issue for some fans (myself included). I mean, I could also say that I'm sick and tired of hearing the same rant (and/or crap) from you bley supporters who show absolute indifference to those of us who take issue with the loss of grey. The funny thing is, this topic is brought up just as often by bley supporters as it is by detractors who are determined to get the LEGO community at large to finally embrace the new colours. I'm as tired of this debate as you are. That doesn't mean I'm going to see the light though. GREY RULES :-D !!! Quote
Hinckley Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Is it rown or frown? (I like frown better) X-D (The name I mean, I hate the colour!) Yes! That's three votes for frown and only one for rown. In your face, SW4J. :-P :-P :-P Frown on! Well, I prefer off. megablock, it doesn't even look like brown... but reading Hinckley's and Sinner's crazy posts (once again :-P ) make me leave that open (at least for now) *yoda* Yes!!!! I have purpose! X-D Quote
Joebot Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Man, three years after the change, and this issue can STILL spur pages and pages of heated debate. I hate the color change as much as anyone, but maybe it's time we move on as a community. This is such a tired, worn-out topic. No one is going to change anyone else's mind, people are firmly set in their opinions, and Lego clearly isn't going to switch back. What's left to discuss? Quote

Its not that we show indifference, but I (cause I can't talk for others) am fed up with all these topics (new colours, peach MFs...). I am sorry for your loss that happened...3 years ago The funny thing is, this topic is brought up just as often by bley supporters as it is by detractors who are determined to get the LEGO community at large to finally embrace the new colours. I'm as tired of this debate as you are. That doesn't mean I'm going to see the light though. I think you are a bit strong there. I am not supporting or detracting old or new colours at all, I am just realistic on that matter (which is again a non issue): old grey/brown is no more. So there are clearly 2 attitudes to have: * cry endlessly and yada yada yada * buy all what you can on BL, Ebay and what have you and just move on Yes!!!! I have purpose! Brick Miner Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 (edited) BM, do you have a link to this official CMYK chart? Thanks in advance *sweet*here is a thread you might find interesting, hinckely....http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...?showtopic=9039 -------------------------------------------------- i actually like that these discussions get brought up evey now and then, yoda... it gives us a new gauge to see where the community is at, currently. and its not like we see 10 discussions of "bley" and "frown" going per day like we did with all the BS B.S. now that got old really quick... i can understand if you got tired of reading them. im glad that has finally died down :-| - BM Edited July 25, 2007 by Brick Miner Quote

This whole thread is like a mini-version of the exact things said when it first happened. Like we're going through the 7 steps again. It's a shame we have to drag this up again especially since it's not very clear what Grand Moff V's purpose was in starting this thread in the first place... Bricklink on! Quote
DoubleT Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 I have the same opinon as xwingyoda, get over it and accept things as they are *sweet* So go watch some Star Trek Quote
Grand Moff Viceroy Posted July 25, 2007 Author Posted July 25, 2007 (edited) Wow, such anger! But it only makes you stronger, closer to the dark side. (evil palpatine cackle) Oh yeah, I love fleshies. They should dominate yellows. Edited July 25, 2007 by Grand Moff Viceroy Quote

I am sorry for your loss that happened...3 years ago That's fine. When this question is brought up, people are bound to voice their opinions. Personally, I've never been irritated by the discussion. The topic is bound to come up from time-to-time simply because it did have such a profound effect on our hobby. If you find the topic so irksome, why even bother with these sorts of threads? I think you are a bit strong there. I am not supporting or detracting old or new colours at all, I am just realistic on that matter (which is again a non issue): old grey/brown is no more.So there are clearly 2 attitudes to have: * cry endlessly and yada yada yada * buy all what you can on BL, Ebay and what have you and just move on *yoda* Again, I think your misreading my post. I never suggested that this was a current issue, or that reverting back to the old colours was feasible. In fact, I have encouraged younger collectors to focus their attention to the new colours with an appreciation that the old colours are gond for good. That still doesn't mean that it is inappropriate to have an opinion on the matter. This is, and always will be an issue for some fans, even if it is irrevokable. You can say that I (and others like Norro) are crying endlessly, but the fact is, even fans who are disappointed by this change have come to accept it. That doesn't mean that we don't enjoy discussing it now and again. Just because old grey/brown are no more doesn't mean that the topic doesn't make for interesting conversation. I appreciate that you prefer the new colours, and that your happy that the old ones are no longer in production. Is it possible for you to appreciate that others still enjoy discussing the change? This whole thread is like a mini-version of the exact things said when it first happened.ok, but until we actually have the discussion, we don't know where we stand, currently. i mean, we could all assume everyone still has the same feelings towards the new colors. however, that might not be the case.for example, if we were to take this "move on :-| " attitude that yoda and TT are suggesting, then we wouldn't be having the same discussion we had four years ago. instead we'd be having a discussion like "boy, did that really make me made at the time, but i like the new colors better now... they have more uses for what im currently building." or something like that. so its interesting to see that a lot of us haven't moved on. i take this thread as merely a gauge of the community Edited July 25, 2007 by Brick Miner Quote
