  3. 3. Chima was said to replace Ninjago, but Ninjago lasted more than it. Does this mean that LoC is somehow a flop?

    • Half way. It was not a top seller, neither a flop. It lasted the time it had to last.

I would love to see Johnny Thunder & co. back as well, for continuitys sake. It would be a great nod to AFOLs, and it wouldnt detract in any way from the play experience for KFOLs or newFOLs. But I do see the problem that the Adventurers already were in Egypt, and you cant keep returning them to an Egyptian setting. So if TLG wanted to make an ancient Egyptian theme, which I suspect was the reason for Adventurers in the first place (since only Egypt got a retread with the PQ theme, the other Adventurers subthemes didnt), they would have to come up with a new group anyway.

That's a fair point, actually, and a factor I hadn't thought of. Adventurers was one of the first Lego themes with a clear sense of "continuity", so perhaps Lego introduced a new team of characters specifically because they didn't want Johnny Thunder's adventures to repeat themselves.

I myself would have liked to see Jake Raines and his team on further adventures—perhaps following Adventurers' lead with an expedition to South American ruins. Of course, it's probably too late to send that team on new adventures with the expectation that kids would recognize them... especially since the "Pharaoh's Quest" theme name would have to be changed for adventures in other settings.

Another action theme idea I've had before was a time travel theme, like Time Cruisers but less zany, and focused on actual time periods as opposed to crossovers with other themes. Of course, if the Doctor Who Ideas proposal turns into a full theme, it might eliminate that niche for an unlicensed action theme.

It does make a sense that it's odd to ask the heroes to do the whole history once again. But what about considering making it reboot? Though that relatively dissapoints some of the AFOLs. Time Cruisers is the same thing. I don't think current kids could notice any of the old story even if it could appeal them.

I could see that Adventurers could go into other areas that we didn't see before so that it can still continue the previous storyline.

I really like Chima, the new figures are great for fantasy play. The whole idea of all the animals really had me thinking Thundercats, but expanding past the T-Cats.I like to see sets come and go, keeps things fresh. However I would also Love tosee Lego do lil tribute or update sets for past themes with out having to do a whole line up.

Honestly, I (as well as many others) were never into Chima, it is basically just "Care Bears meets Thundercats" rip-off to me, it had nothing special to me (and from the one episode I saw of it, it was badly corny). I am glad this set is ending because it no longer seems as popular as it once was when it first came out, I had a feeling Ninjago would last much longer than this series because it has more to it and the sets for Ninjago are very cool.

I would love to see a new action set, but if Scooby Doo is its replacement and we will get more sets of it, that would be so great!

^ Pretty much my opnion as well. Id rather see TLG concentrating on Ninjago and Scooby Doo rather than adding another theme (unless it would be an adventurers style theme), or putting any extra resources to the Castle and Pirate themes.

What worries me the most is the suggestion that the new castle theme will be the new Action theme

Keep in mind that "action theme" is a term almost entirely defined by the EB community, and largely means "story-based themes that are not City, Castle, Pirates, or Space". In that sense, a Castle theme will never be an action theme, despite several such themes having distinct similarities to the typical "action theme" formula (like Fright Knights, Knights Kingdom I and II, Vikings, and even Fantasy Castle).

Personally, I wouldn't mind a traditional Castle theme that was more story-driven. Something like a King Arthur-like court of named knights on a distinct quest—like KK2 but with a more traditional feel.

I'm still waiting for an Adventures type of theme.2011 was when the Pharaohs Quest theme came out.Hopefully we'll get something similar next year.

I would love to have another Indiana Jones/Johnny Thunder like series with adventure and archaeology!

I know it's unlikely for 2016 but I'd like to see Monster Fighters getting a second wave

Not likely with Scooby Doo on the horizon. As much as I loved that theme, the Haunted House was its grand finale, and a fitting one at that.

I won't be suprised if they another action theme in the likes of chima...

But it would be way cooler if they did a steampunk oriented theme; with Floating rock sets, Trains, Thingamajiggy's, Captain Nemo's sub, Steam, Boilers, you name it.

It would tie in most previous Adventure themes; Western, Atlantis, Indiana Jones etc.

That's the rumor over in the Castle 2016 thread. Some members have confirmation that the new action theme will be similar to Castle.

Are you a visually creative Digital Art Director who can communicate funny, interesting and cool stories? Would you like to manage and execute highly conceptual and creative campaigns for a brand new play universe from the LEGO Group?

We are launching a new home grown line of toys aimed at boys.

Nice, what is known for so far? :sweet:

This might not pertain to an action theme specifically, but Amazon.com has two books pertaining to next year's "big bang" theme. The books will feature "the heroes, villains, vehicles, and locations from the top secret, NEW LEGO brand!"

For those who don't know, a "big bang" is "a homegrown LEGO theme that's built around an arresting story, one that shows a high potential for creating a worldwide sensation and generating lucrative revenue streams from the Web, television, and spin-off products, just as Bionicle had done for the better part of a decade" (Brick by Brick, p263). Some previous "big bang" themes include LEGO Atlantis, LEGO Ninjago, LEGO Friends, LEGO Legends of Chima, and LEGO Elves. Needless to say, the majority of these fall somewhere under the action/adventure themes umbrella, LEGO Friends being a rare exception. So this might very well be the new action theme people are expecting.

Of course, it could also be a theme that falls under a more specific category. It has been a couple years since the last LEGO Space or LEGO Castle theme, and while most recent iterations of those themes have not been particularly story– or media-driven, that's not to say future iterations couldn't be. Perhaps it's been long enough since the LEGO Group's last attempt at a story-driven Castle theme, Knights' Kingdom II, for designers to be willing to give it another swing.

couldnt care less about chima - ninjago isnt for me either- the upcoming ninja village seems to be quite amazing though

scooby doo surprised me - i might actually buy all sets over time

^^ Yup, sounds like the Castle theme to me; in fact, my source even described the new Castle theme as being a "Big Bang Theme", so this would be that. :classic:

Thanks for the link!
