The darkness is not a foe to be beaten back. It is not an evil thing of itself, just as light is not always good. Balance is the key. Use the darkness around you. Shape it and direct it. Nerwen draws out her battered wooden flute. The band of amethyst set into the body pulsing darkly in time with the roiling billows of murk. She plays a simple tune, improvising, concentrating and attempting to take power not from within but from the benighted air around her. With a discordant note, she casts what power she could gather downwards into the earth, grounding it out. Quote

As the witch has already pointed out, elves are often too set in their ways to be the right kind of crazy fun, Grimwald is old for a gnome and may be close to his end. The Monk is, if you believe him, even older than me, which makes him both more set in his ways and even closer to his end. But you, you've got a whole lifetime ahead of you to be crazy fun in... Nerwen draws breath, her reply ringing with diplomacy. Yes. Simon is crazy and fun. For now. But he is beaten. If the darkness was not here, he would have fallen by now. He is enpeesy, not fit to lead the order, no matter how many times he is blessed. You have already suggested the order will move on without him and that you do not care if he wins or not. Like Simon, Yu Shu has lost a sibling. She will be just as passionate about rooting out the reminants of the order as Simon would have been crushing the warrior priests. But beyond that you have the golden crusade, buoyed by success, by marred by Mitchell's loss. Who knows what they will do. You have Avery, undead assassin with motivations of her own now. And you have heroica, despite the veterans boring blessing, one of the greater forces of love, hate, war, passion and change. If this battle does not end cleanly you'll find it much harder to meddle with heroes in the future.
