brickpreviews Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Anyone else having issues with glossy surfaces on LEGO bricks that can trap fingerprints etc? I do wash my hands before touching LEGO but that doesn't seem to help sometimes. I have considered wearing Latex gloves while handling LEGO but the ones I use have white powder inside can transfer to the LEGO surface making it worse. Speaking from a photography perspective, not that I want to murder someone with LEGO Quote
EvilBlackSheep Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Personally I have more of a dust issue when taking photos than the fingerprint ones but in case it can help you, here's my trick: I use a small retractable pen-brush that I use for cleaning my camera lense to clean whatever unwanted 'detail' shows up in the photo just before retaking another photo. Hope it helps or someone has better advice on this:) Quote
Peppermint_M Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Yellow duster cloth is your friend! You can easily remove fingerprints from the high gloss surfaces with a few dabs from a simple and cheap duster cloth. One of these: Just in case there are other names for it out there. Quote
escortmad79 Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 It's the oils in your skin that cause the fingerprints to remain. You can get powder free gloves, or try using white photography cotton gloves Quote
dr_spock Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 I use a pair of cheap white glove inserts to cover my hands. Since you have oily fingers even after washing, wear the gloves, clean the LEGO with a microfiber cloth and then take the picture. Quote
brickpreviews Posted February 11, 2015 Author Posted February 11, 2015 Thanks for all the suggestions, I will give it a try :) Quote
Jared Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 (edited) My dad thinks it's the most ridiculous thing ever. Although I agree with the above, I think there is a point where you need to step back and say "ummm.... maybe I'm getting a little TOO obsessive". Then I completely ignore his advice because this is coming from a guy who would freak out over model air planes (my mom knows all the best secrets!);) In terms of general techniques, Peppermint nailed it. Also use a towel too sometimes, it allows for good grip when you need to separate stuff that a brick separator can't, and makes clean-up easier too. ^_^ Edited February 12, 2015 by Jared Quote
Saberwing40k Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 I don't see it as much of a problem. Also, in The Lego Movie, Emmet almost always has a fingerprint on him. Quote
alanyuppie Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Its a non-issue to me as well. I would love my signature to be in all my MOCs .. but getting my fingerprints there is not bad too. :) Quote
