Say, are we still expecting Lego to showcase at least one late 2019/early 2020 playset at SDCC, as they've always done? :shrug_confused:

Yep...

They're certainly taking their time, I just hope it's worth it

With the leaked plot of Brids of Prey I dont really think we'll get anything from it.

Its like Suicide Squad 1.5

Isn't it supposed to be R-rated anyway? I'd really love it if they could sneak Huntress into a Batman set though....

I think we could get like the Harley Quinn version of this movie, like an exclusive or something. They can use the S18 pigtails for that

Much like how Lego indirectly represented the first Suicide Squad movie back in 2016, that's how I'd expect Lego to address Birds of Prey (if at all).

I'm happier with it that way tbh, that way we'll get some comic accurate versions of those great characters.

Ay, if we could get a comic set with Black Mask vs Huntress and Cassandra Cain, that'd be great! Though they'd also include a Batman or Harley in it.

I mean, I'd also like an official Zsasz, but I don't really see that happening

I mean, from the way it looks from here on out, it's Batman-centric sets all the way, so any of those characters' comic variants could be easily shoehorned into such sets as indirect representatives for the Birds of Prey movie.

A few BoP would be very welcome to help bolster the ranks of the heroes shelf. After TLBM they have been heavily outnumbered.

(I really hope we see a Superman or JL set at comic-con so that this speculation that we are only ever going to get Batman sets from here on could be put to an end.)

After two waves with a big old Bat badge instead of a Super Heroes logo, it’s difficult to imagine anything different for the foreseeable future. I don’t mind so long as someone who isn’t Bat Family turns up, or if they are then one we don’t currently have, like Spoiler, Orphan, Huntress, Bluebird, Batwing or Signal. I would say Azrael but I reckon he’s in deep cut territory now.

Yep, the new branding isn't the most assuring for those hoping for DC-based sets beyond Batman. I mean, does anyone here really expect to ever see at least a Superman-branded solo set from this point onwards? In my eyes, the former DC SuperHeroes umbrella branding was more easily inclusive of Batman-less playsets under what has always technically been Batman's playtheme. :sarcasm:

People have pretty much been doomsaying the DC theme since the beginning. Maybe y'all'll be right this time, but I'm not convinced. It's really only been one wave (two winter sets hardly counts for much), and I think that the Bat-centricity has more to do with the character's 80th anniversary or the prominence of Will Arnett's Batman in the LEGO movies than the fear of other DC characters. Marvel switched to the Spider-Man branding, but then introduced a similar-ish branding for the Endgame and Captain Marvel sets. I don't see why the Batman branding would indicate that DC is locked out of doing something similar. Sure, I guess that only the winter Spider-Man sets were comics based while the rest were movies, but there are rumors of comic Avengers sets coming along with the Hulk set, and given the way Endgame concluded Iron Man and Captain America's stories, I wouldn't be surprised at all if LEGO begins producing comic Avengers sets. I guess that's speculation about the future of the Marvel line, but I don't think it is any crazier than the Batman-forever doomsaying.

But I guess time will tell.

Lego legitimately have every right to be a little resistant to putting out DC movie sets after they poured more money* into the Justice League sets than the movie made. Poor Shazam got bolted onto a Batman set that then insinuated Batman was incapable of catching the Riddler without some super powered help, as well as the GCPD. It’s been a known trend that Lego gives Marvel the movie sets and DC the comic sets. I would love to see more DC sets. I wouldn’t hang around here if I didn’t. But unless they are indeed doing a slightly half baked 80th anniversary wave and normal service will resume, then I think that the most likely set up is much like how it started, with the line going from Batman to Batman and Friends. I want to be wrong.

*disclaimer: the exaggeration is to highlight the poor reception of the movie.

And back in 2014 (?) they decided that Batman couldn't catch the Riddler without Flash, and a couple years later that Blue Beetle was a good match for Killer Moth. This isn't anything new. Who knows why they didn't make sets for Shazam. One of the DCEU's mistakes is relying on the status of its characters as pop culture icons, which Shazam hasn't been since the forties. Aquaman was probably a riskier choice than Shazam all things considered, but that movie's budget was much larger. It probably has more to do with how WB wants to promote their properties: they are merchandising partners. Who knows what actually goes on in those meetings. Yes, their strategy for this year was a heavy focus on Batman (and I suggested that has a lot to do with special anniversaries he is celebrating and TLM2), but this license also just released its first video game which used general DC branding rather than Batman. Sure, Joker and Harley were front and center, but Lex Luthor, the New Gods, Gorilla Grodd, Black Adam, Livewire, Sinestro, and Flash's villains all featured pretty prominently too.

Obviously there is a trend that says Marvel gets the movie sets and DC gets comic sets, but it's just that: a trend, not a rule. There were comic-based Marvel sets this year, and the last time we got comicbook Avengers sets was in 2017, the last year when an Avengers movie wasn't in theaters.  LEGO didn't cancel the Aquaman set when the Justice League sets flopped (apparently, but nobody actually knows for certain how well any of them did, or if they were actually overproduced), but instead released it the same way they released the Wonder Woman set and went further to make a loose tie-in with Ocean Master (and yes, Batman, but like with the JL Black Manta set which also included Batman and Robin the thrust of the conflict was on Aquaman). They aren't beyond cancelling DC sets on a fairly short notice. DCSHG was supposed to get a few more sets last year but those got cut.

Either way, though I did speculate about more comicbook Avengers sets, my point in bringing up Marvel really didn't have anything to do with the source material, just that the Marvel line has already indicated that the new box designs have more to do with the franchise featured than the direction of the line: that has stayed the same.

I'm just going to leave this here. It's really not worth arguing about until we see one way or the other.

@SoupOrFishOil alright, I’ll try to keep this relatively brief. Flash assisting makes a little sense as it’s feasible that Riddler could acquire a faster car than Batman. Beetle and Moth didn’t need to be in the set, but two insect based characters appearing together in a child’s toy is not outside the realms of fantasy, their relationship (or lack of) and respective power sets notwithstanding. The likelihood is that the focus was on Batman - their flagship DC superhero - and they decided to go as with the Squad, albeit with less logic - I am struggling to find a specific Batman/Shazam team up outside of the Brave and the Bold cartoon or Justice League comics encounters. You answered your own question about why Shazam didn’t get his own set; he was untried. Aquaman was notably one of the best things about JL, and has been more prominent, if the butt of many jokes. As for the games, there are many of us still waiting for Mad Hatter. There’s no real precedent for games relating to future sets.

I never said it was a rule, but an accepted trend. I would argue that the emphasis was on the hero who had the submarine, even if the other one was facing his nemesis. The SHG line ended amid rumours of poor sales. Whether that is the case is moot as the theme is gone.

I don’t really understand your last point, as the box art for the rebranded Super Heroes back to Spider-Man line bears no relation to the MCU box art. They didn’t switch anything.

I just saw a trailer from a new Batman animated movie featuring Hush as the main villain

I hope this one will be better than the Harley Quinn trash they released a couple of years ago.

But hey maybe Hush can appear in the winter wave?

I'm going to guess Harley is definitely showing up again with the 4+ head and hair.
Joker will probably show up too, but they might not even change him. A set with his DCSV truck could be fun though, and could include plenty of play features.

As for other figs, Riddler, Two-Face, Catwoman and Freeze are probably off the table. After all, while the most prominent villains in sets are Harley, Joker, Ed, Oswald, almost all of those have had redesigns already. We might see Penguin or Bane, if they're essentially remaking all the major Bat villains in Rebirth costumes. Nightwing and Batgirl maybe. And I guess someone new if we're lucky. The best bet there is Huntress, Cass or Roman.

As for non-Bat villains, Psycho Pirate is possible, due to his current prominence in the current Batman run. If we're seeing other non-bat villains then maybe Merlyn and Heat Wave as they were rather prominent figs in the last game

Yesterday at SDCC, Bruce Timm hinted that a Batman Beyond revival might happen

And you know what that means.....

Awesome! As long as the Blu-Ray sets sell successfully. I’ve always wanted Batman Beyond AKA Terry McGinnis to be made as a minifigure!

is anyone currently reading Scott Snyder's Batman Who Laughs and Last Knight on Earth run?

love it how he drops some random bat-vehicle's, would love to see them in Lego form.

Batman Who Laughs - Bat-Raptor

Last Knight On Earth - Bat-Train or an underground Tank - not sure what it is!

Batman New 52 - Bat-mobile - I think Jerry Build Bricks had a custom build but was never released fully.
