I like the amount of detail you can achieve on the ships with the larger scale, which obviously didn't really work with the TIE fighter unfortunately. I have the Y, X, & B-Wings, I think they all look great.

Even though minifigs are way to small they actually look okay inside because the head is pretty much to scale and you can't see the torso or legs.

As much as I like the design and accuracy of this set, I'm not very happy with TLG's choice to make an UCS version of the TIE Fighter.

Sure, it was bound to happen: the TIE-Fighter is a very iconic and well-known ship in the Star Wars universe. Sooner or later, TLG had to make it into UCS.

What I don't like about this UCS set is that it is pretty much two big plates attached to a ball-shaped cockpit. But I guess that's pretty much what a TIE Fighter is.

Don't get me wrong, I actually like the set but I won't get it until (probably) May the 4th of 2016.

Thanks for the review Anio!

It's definitely a nice set. Looks really aesthetically pleasing. (to me at least). But I just can't justify $300AU for it. Especially if I was to choose between this and the Slave I.

However.. I will be definitely getting that figure. It looks fantastic, I hope they keep up with the arm printing, it can bring so much more detail to figures.

The UCS TIE fighter seems to be an amalgamation of the animated TIE Fighter in Star Wars Rebels and the classic TIE seen in the movies. The ball and pylons of the LEGO UCS TIE look blended together, similar to the ball and conical shaped pylons of the animated TIE fighter. The proportions of the panels are of the cinema-screen TIE, though.

In any case, I'm looking forward to getting that TIE canopy glass dish and the top hatch dish. The variants of TIE fighters that the AFOL community has in store will be amazing, I bet.

While the arm printing is nice and definitely adds to the figure in a meaningful way (the Imperial badge), I am more excited about the helmet. It is hard to miss but movie TIE-pilots did customize their helmets a bit, and the one in this set is the most attractive imo.

I'm amazed that the box is the same size as the imperial shuttle, i'd have thought it would be X-wing sized.

How did you build the set with, seemingly, not a fingerprint on it! I find my sets come out of the box with a certain amount of 'dust' on them!

You may think I am a weirdo, but I always wash my hands before I build a Lego set.

If the build takes some time (more than 3 hours), I may wash them again. :)

Must be enough demand as TLG is currently sold out of this after only a day or so of it's official release. I ordered one up for a friend so we'll see how it looks in person.

Recevied my UCS TIE today and started it early afternoon. It took about 4 hours, with several breaks in between. While I was disapointed early on, when the set and the first pics were revealed, I like it so much more now. I think it's well done by TLG. It really captures the look of the TIE - even more than the system scaled version (which seems soooo small in comparison). I haven't scaled the TIE yet but I think the TIE is about the same scale as the X-Wing. While the inner sides of the solar panels are not as nice as the outer sides, it's ok for me. I can't find anything wrong with the cockpit sphere at all - it's as round as it gets with bricks.

And boys, the thing is huge! Here's a comparison shot with some other UCS:

Compared to the X-Wing:

And a final one - I really like the proportions and the techniques they have used for the solar panels and their attachments:

Nice photos, TheGreenMachine!

Wanted to see how big is the 75095 and how it compares to the other UCS ships. Can't wait to get it!

Thanks for sharing TheGreenMachine. Its nice to see how it scales with the UCS Red Five X-wing.

Ok, now I'm starting to waiver. Those are cool pics of it next to the other UCS ships. Maybe this will find it's way into the Death Star room....

I think someone requested a comparison shot with the 2012 TIE Fighter, thus I took one:

I also took a comparison picture of the various TIE Fighter pilots we've gotten over the years:

Can't wait to add TIE Fighter pilot #7 to my collection this autumn

I gotta say, after a bit of skepticism, I believe this set is well worth the price. The build itself was a lot less monotonous than I expected; and using the 'assembly line' method to build the panel sections simultaneously made those steps really quick. The connection points between pylon and panel are quite innovative, and make those heavy panels surprisingly stable! Actually, this set has quite a few clever build techniques. The printed dish elements look fantastic, and I really like how the cockpit interior turned out.

If you're on the fence about this one, I would say go for it. A solid 8 out of 10 for me.
