Hey guys I'm back again with another overly-ambitious project ( that will probably eventually end up failing..). Anyhow, this time I'm attempting to recreate this beautiful M.A.N TGS 6x4*4. I don't have the necessary pieces to make it a true 6x4, so it'll be a 6x2 but still with the steered tag axle.

Everything right now is in it's first iteration, this time around I decided to make a rough version of the entire truck using the absolute minimal number of pieces possible, so then I wouldnt run out of pieces for important features like the crane.

The cabin needs a lot of work but I think I got the basic shape down. What do you guys think?

Also I just uploaded photo instructions for the cab of my previous MOC to brickshelf. Heres the link.

Cheers!

Your trucks are awesome. I have no doubt you'll succeed in making this

Why do you insinuate failing with a start like that? Go for it, looks great so far.

As others said so far so good! Dont forget the blinking orange light :angel_sing:

Thank you very much guys! I said that because eventually my lack of patience and school work gets in the way of completing a MOC. I'm going to try my hardest to finish this though, I really like this truck.

Also Zblj unfotunately ... well.. erm... I don't actually have one  but lets see, if I pull the trigger on this 8110 Unimog that I've been eyeing it'll make it to the final version

Might just be the perspective, but your chassis seems longer than the one in the picture. Either way, from what I can tell, this is a great start, and I can't wait to see the finished product!

I really would love to see a more detailed picture of your front cross-stabilizers  Great work so far

Thanks. Sure, but the chassis, stabilizers and gearbox are going through a major rehaul. Still, I can post a picture tomorrow, but it's mostly disassembled.

Yup, you're right! The wheelbase on mine was a little too long. But I stripped down the chassis and managed to shorten the gearbox/wheelbase by about 5 studs. it should be about right now :)

No problem mate  I'm especially curious about the way of mounting and how you drive the stabs  I was trying to make the same thing on my own Daf crane truck but i never couldn't figure it out how to get a descend working cross stabilizer  I'm curious about your technique for that

It looks nice!

cab looks amazing.. instantly recognizable.

Thanks guys! The cab has gone though some major changes... I think it looks much better now.

Ahh, sorry to dissapoint you, but they aren't descend working :sceptic: I toyed with that idea initially but the whole system would take up too much space and too many pieces.. both of which I don't have. It'd still be possible to mount a system on top of the stabilizers with sliding long axles and frictionless gears a la 42009 but it would be needlessly complex for such a small feature (IMO).

Anyway, it's a rather crude system tbh, I had to make the space between the outrigger housing and the unit that drives the gears quite large to eliminate friction and avoid awkward axle angles. But it does work smoothly. Hope this helps :)

anyways, hope you enjoy these rather horribly taked WIP pictures

Tnx mate  your pictures give me a proper view of it  I think i would be able now to make it work :sweet:

This is how i got t working @ the moment

It's just a simple manual turning stab  Not very strong but comes close to the real freeturning cross stabilizers

Wow, that crane looks phenomenal, do you have a build thread or more pictures? Impressive truck either way , just wow.

And ahh, I see. The truck I'm trying to make doesn't have swiveling stabilizers. It has regular telescopic outriggers mounted over each other at an angle. :) that's why it was such a pain in the a$s to make the whole thing.

This is what I'm trying to make btw-

yeah the cab looks even better now, I might try and work that design into a MOC I've wanted to make for some time that will be based on the unimog size tires. The cab you have made gives me a really good starting point.... just need to increase its size a little bit.

That sounds amazing... When you start building make sure to make a thread so I can follow. I too would like to build a truck based on Unimog tires.

I don't have any close-up pictures yet.

I'll make them tommorow.

And i haven't got a build thread for it

I know that page  i'm getting most off my ideas of that page :sweet:.

When i first saw that picture of that grey MAN i already knew wich page you're using

Thanks. deployed it reaches 95 cm far and 1.06mtr of height. ever since the release of the 8258 crane truck i needed to have it and wanted to make it look like the real loadercranes.

Here are some close-up pictures of how i made the multitelescopic boom

I hope it gives you an idea of how it works  I should note that the way my crane is build now it is pretty darn heavy (XLmotor alone isn't enough to unfold the multisectionboom  I need to give it a little bit of help ) also it doens't lift anything :cry_happy::tongue: but from my point of view that's not something i mind

^I love the jib attachment. I understand why you went for form over function, after all Lego is about design.

if you could make the telescopic boom operate with just a single input that would be awesome

This is my progress over the last couple of days, the front bumper still needs work and I'm not convinced the scale is right yet. loads of other things to work out as well like the compressor and the rear hook lift.

its meant to look something like this..

I will make a start on your cab design over the weekend...
