kaboom4 Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 I think it's good that they are making another LEGO video game. But it's too bad that they don't have the fourth movie in this game. Quote

Piranha Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 (edited) I bring New Screens and a New Article! X-D We've been anxious to get our hands on LucasArts and Traveller's Tales' latest tag-team effort, Lego Indiana Jones, since the game was first announced last year. The publisher-and-developer pairing has yielded some Voltron-like results with the Lego Star Wars titles, so we've been understandably curious to see what happens when you mix Legos and Indiana Jones. A recent trip to LucasArts' offices finally let us try out a work-in-progress version of the Xbox 360 game which, while a little rough around the edges, is on its way to matching the appeal of the Lego Star Wars titles.Traveller's Tales has added a number of new mechanics to this latest Lego outing. For those who haven't followed the news around the game, Lego Indy is taking a Lego Star Wars: The Complete Trilogy-style approach to the classic trilogy of films starring Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones. The game will offer 18 levels, with six based on each of the films in the series, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom, and The Last Crusade. In addition, you'll find some bonus levels in there to add some excitement. You'll make your way to each set of levels via the game's hub, based on Jones' day job as a professor at Barnett College. Our hands-on time let us try out the first two levels in the game, based on Raiders, and have a stroll through Barnett. The first level in the game was pretty familiar to us as it was the level demoed for us during GDC and based on the opening of the first film. You'll take control of Indy and his "friend" Satipo as they enter ruins in search of a gold relic. Obviously, the level played out a bit longer than the movie sequence, courtesy of a much richer, more involved route to the relic. New gameplay elements such as ladders, swing points for Indy's trusty whip, and new collectibles were all on display in the level, which featured a colorful look with a few placeholder elements here and there. In keeping with the whole explorer vibe of the movies, the level featured a number of different puzzles, some you could solve solo, and others that required cooperating with your AI controlled buddy. As with the other Lego games, the action was given a goofy and humorous spin courtesy of some fanciful art direction and silly, humorous cinematics which move the narrative along. Once you successfully guide Indy through a deadly gauntlet of the iconic moments from the film--including natives and a giant Lego boulder--you get to Indy's plane and head out. This latter part of the level showed off some of the flexibility that's been added to the various playable characters. While each character will have their own unique special ability, as we've seen in previous Lego games, it's also possible for Indy to temporarily get some additional abilities by picking up an object, in this case a wrench, to let him repair his plane. Fans of the films will find more than a few familiar faces here. Once we wrapped up the adventure we had a quick stroll around Barnett College, checking out the different themed rooms which offered access to different pieces of content such as collectibles, cutscenes, and a shop where you can use your collected studs to purchase extras including playable characters. The area was fairly spacious, with a good amount of nooks and crannies to explore, though the graphics weren't final yet. Following our quick tour, we went to a map room and selected the next level by moving a magnifying glass. The level finds Indy checking in with old flame Marion Ravenwood at her bar in the Himalayas. As in the film, the reunion takes a turn for the worse as the evil Belloq shows up to cause problems, along with a plethora of henchmen (no, not Nazis--the game is steering clear of that topic). Clashing with Belloq's cronies offered a good showcase for the new swapping feature, which doesn't require you to be in close proximity as it did with the previous Lego games, and the slightly different bent that combat has in this game. Lego Indy is a much more melee-centric experience that incorporates objects to pick up and throw. The level also highlighted temporary item-based abilities again, with Indy gaining the dig ability from picking up a shovel, which you need to deal with a puzzle when you're outside the bar. The last bit of the level we played had us facing off against Belloq in a boss battle that required us to make use of the environment to dole out some damage to the fiend. In playing Marion, we also noticed she's able to jump higher, apparently a special trait of the playable ladies in the game, and she throws a mean right cross to boot. Overall the visuals and general presentation in the game are looking good. There were obviously some rough edges due to unfinished elements and the awkward camera angle here and there, but overall the game is looking sharp and comes packing a good amount of personality. The characters have expressive faces and utter the odd grunt here and there for effect. The cinematics are the expected mix of faithful reproduction of key moments mixed with original tomfoolery worthy of a chuckle or two. The game unabashedly wears its goofy heart on its sleeve like all the other Lego games, and it works well. That goofy Lego humor is most definitely intact. Based on what we played, Lego Indy is looking like it's going to be a whole lot of good-natured fun. The game tweaks the already solid Lego Star Wars mechanics to better fit the Earth-based adventuring. The results so far are promising and feel like a good fit. Traveller's Tales is clearly getting more and more comfortable with the Lego formula they established and are starting to have more fun with it. We're anxious to see how the game shapes up and how much it can be polished up. If you're fan of the previous Lego games, you will definitely want to keep an eye out for Lego Indy when it ships this June for a veritable bevy of platforms: Wii, PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, DS, PC and PSP. Look for more on the game in the coming weeks A bit Large! Video Interview!!! Clicky! Enjoy! Edited March 13, 2008 by Piranha Quote

Andrex Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Haha that's great ^^ thank you so much for that, Piranha. I was going to go to Play.com's Live!.. but.. Train tickets would be expensive enough on their own, so I restrained myself in the end. Nevertheless, it's good we're getting so much news *wub* I'll definitely be putting a preorder in soon! -- Andrex Quote
???theriddler??? Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Wow, thanks for the great pics, i can only say one thing now, I MUST PLAY THIS! Quote
hewkii9 Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Got another article- but before I show it to you I just wanna say I hope the fear system and potential ammo limit are on the interface, a more complex interface would be good. Article On!! Katie Price and Peter Andre, the internet and porn, rice and peas: some things were just meant to be. So it was with LEGO and Star Wars, combining first to introduce a line of must-have toys, then going on to produce some of the most broadly accessible and utterly charming games of recent times. Despite primarily gunning for the younger gamer, LEGO Star Wars had the power to transport even the most world-weary back to the first time they sat slack-jawed in front of George Lucas's opus. Now, with the LEGO series exploring Indiana Jones territory, we accepted an invite to series developer Traveller's Tales for a look at the new game, producer Nick Ricks acting as our guide. Nestling in a leafy corner of Cheshire, Traveller's Tales's studio should provoke a fierce outbreak of green skin among LEGO fans. Cabinets brimming with some of the most desirable LEGO models of the past few years line the walls - in one corner sits a sizable LEGO Star Destroyer, while another hosts a collection of Indiana Jones dioramas. It's no surprise that Traveller's Tales has trained its eyes on Lucas's much-loved matinee world of dusty leather jackets and archeological hijinks. Indiana Jones and LEGO make a pairing perhaps even more fitting than the developer's previous space-bound union, the more playful humour of Indy's whip-cracking yarns squeezing snugly into the template established through preceding LEGO Star Wars games. With such a strong formula already in place, it's easy to assume that producing the LEGO Indiana Jones game would be a breeze. Surely it's simply a matter of dumping a couple of temples into the Tatooinie desert, giving Luke Skywalker a whip and - while you're at it - why not just throw in the Dr. Jones model that made a cameo in The Complete Saga? However tempting it might have been to throw together this new game from the bricks of the last, Ricks assures us there's a little more going on in LEGO Indiana Jones: "It's a natural assumption that both Star Wars and Indiana Jones are action properties so it would be an easy fix to port one across Quote
Markypops Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Just found this on the woolworths site in the UK Enjoy Quote
???theriddler??? Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Thanks hewkii9 and markypops! Very interesting artical! Quote
Andrex Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Ah if I recall, that was the IGN article ^^. Thanks for those! Also, I got my Official Nintendo Magazine yesterday. It had a double page spread on Lego Indiana Jones, but nothing really new. Just the screenshots we recently got, and a funky lil article. If you want I'll scan it in *sweet*. -- Andrex Quote
xwingyoda Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Tks hewkii9 for the cool article ;-) I'm glad that they decided to give secondary characters more presence ;-) So they can hunt for treasure and studs and can help defrost those "fear factor" moments :-P I hope the ammo will be either unlimited or really easy to find !! If you want I'll scan it in *sweet*. Tks a bunch !! If you think its interesting please do scan it, after all you're our game reporter :-P *yoda* Quote
hewkii9 Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 I hope the ammo will be either unlimited or really easy to find !! Lol, I hope the opposite- I'd rather throw a rock or something than shoot someone- unless that someone is that ninja-dude from Raiders. Think he should be a boss or a cutscene? Quote
Piranha Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Thanks everyone for the articles, screenshots....(too lazy to name names :-P ) I really like how its become more puzzle and environment based In LSW all you could do is shoot or slice threw enemies and they die Of course when you got close you could brawl with them Now in LIJ you have to use what you've got around like bottles, chairs.... Luckily you always have a whip to use Another interesting feature is when you pick up something like a shovel or wrench you gain special abilities Like digging, fixing machinery... Then if you find a gun you can shoot everyone But that makes it way too easy I hope the ammo is limited *sweet* I hope the ammo will be either unlimited or really easy to find !! Makes it too easy Next you'll say "I hope there is an invincibility feature" :-P X-D I wonder what the extras are going to be? Probably standard like studs x2 and invincibility The bonus levels better be awesome, in LSW the only cool one was the CITY level *y* I'm thinking Crystal Skull preview levels LIJ ON! P Quote
Andrex Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 (edited) :-D As I promised. I only scanned in the first page, since the second was just screenshots we've already seen with funny captions :-P. Behold the article! Enjoy! -- Andrex Quick edit! I think that's a typo when they say it's 4-player, so don't get your hopes up x.x. Edited March 15, 2008 by Andrex Quote
hewkii9 Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Yay! Swastika doors! But do they mean actual swastikas, or a toned-down thing that represents the baddies? Quote
Andrex Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Swastikas would be interesting, we'll have to see, since I've not heard it mentioned elsewhere. Anyhoo, here's an article for you! There is nothing new here, but it's still a good read. Enjoy =] 20-Mar-2008 We build up everyone's favourite stubbly action hero in what could turn out to be the best thing he's in this year...Has it really been over 25 years since Indiana Jones swung himself (and his fedora hat) across his first snake filled pit? It seems like only yesterday we were watching The Last Crusade in the cinema too. Hang on - what were our parents doing letting us watch a film with melting Nazis in it when we were only 3? (Okay, so in 1989 we were actually 12...) Anyway this year, possibly as excitingly for gamers as the new Indiana Jones film - especially those who have played Lego Star Wars (and is there anyone who hasn't?) - is Lego Indiana Jones the game. We've seen what developer Traveller's Tales can do with some animated Lego bricks, a classic trilogy and a generous dosage of fun-poking humour already in Lego Star Wars. And the prospect of now playing through our favourite action hero trilogy as re-imagined by the Lego masters is frankly as appealing as shoving a sock in heroine Willie's gob when she's doing all that screaming in the dinghy in Temple of Doom. Advertisement: Just writing that sentence too has given us yet another famous Indiana Jones scene that we can't wait to see re-done in Lego. And - trust us - we've thought of quite a few since getting to play the game's Raiders of the Lost Ark levels and seeing just how brilliant they are. We sort of knew what to expect when we started playing Lego Indiana Jones - which is the same as anyone who's watched the films and played the previous Lego games will be expecting too. The formula of simple platform action, block collecting and constructing and comical Lego cut-scenes remains very much intact, which should surely dampen our enthusiasm at least a little. Perhaps because of the strength of the film franchise though, or just because of the encompassing attention to minute detail, the game still manages to make a jaw-dropping impression. That's partly because it looks so good on Xbox 360. The opening Raiders of the Lost Ark forest level in particular looks stunning - almost like the little plastic Indy and Satipo characters have borrowed the trees from Crysis and are taking a stroll amidst them. Almost. It's mostly those details that make the game so outstanding though. As you jump about as Indy, he action rolls at every opportunity and his trusty whip is always on hand to drag objects or swing him across holes in the ground. His sidekick Satipo - who wields a spade for digging up hidden switches and Lego bricks - looks as comically terrified of every springing out spike as a Lego faced character possibly could too. This level has a bit of everything. Rope bridges to build then throw across chasms, poison darts to roll past and even a bit of raft rowing through crocodile infested waters. It all comes to a climax in Indy's most famous scene - the giant boulder rolling one - with you legging it towards the camera, leaping over gaps in the floor to escape. Only to have your priceless idol nabbed by rival archaeologist Rene Belloq. The cut-scene here pretty much sums up what to expect from the rest of the game. As Indy accidentally produces the gold head of Star Wars droid C-3PO instead of the idol he's been asked to hand over, Belloq starts doing his best robot impression and all the Hovito tribes people start wetting themselves laughing. After making an escape in his seaplane, Indy's "there's a big snake in the plane, Jock" line is replaced by Indy leaping into Jock's lap instead. Some games might struggle at humour, but Traveller's Tales clearly have no such problem. Of course, it helps that cut-scenes feature cutesy-fied plastic Lego versions of devil worshippers, and Nazis who can't speak so are reduced to comic over-acting. Still, you can't help but love how it's all done. However - we're not going to buy it for the cut-scenes (well, actually, maybe...). The game too though, even at this stage, is a joy to play. Lego Indy features the usual jump-in-and-out co-op play that made the Star Wars games such a laugh for two players. Without the second player, Indy's sidekick is controlled by AI, but can be swapped to using Y whenever they're needed for certain puzzles. Even in the opening levels we encountered a few head scratchers. Like working out feisty tavern-owner Marion can jump higher than Indy so is needed to retrieve a key for a puzzle. And that you need to lob chairs and bottles at a gun-wielding Toht who's taking cover behind a bar in order to defeat him. Like all the Lego games, it's a very simple game to play and enjoy but it's not all mindless leaping and fighting. Later scenes will include the Temple of Doom's mines - expect some mine cart riding and devil worshipper slaying (although possibly not a big horned man holding aloft another man's still-beating heart - that's not so family-friendly). While we didn't get to see those, from what we have played there's little danger they'll be another other than a romp-a-thon of genius set-pieces. Not since the big pirate Lego ship our parents' eventually bought us after we spent the best part of a year whining, have we been so looking forward to something branded up with the Lego logo. There's not too long to wait either. Lego Indiana Jones is due for release on June 6th. Mark the date. Courtesy of ComputerAndVideoGames.com -- Andrex Quote
