Maersk Train in different colours

I am not 100% happy with them, colors don't match closely enough Lego colors, so if you look at the locomotive up close in bright light, it shows.

If you run it fast enough on the track, it's more than fine :) :)

I agree, I am still interested in seeing how the colors turn out in real life. The lighting on the render is all wrong.

My next project may be creating the IC I-ball version.

If anyone is able to render them for me I'd love to share them.

I'm fairly new to LDD and Rendering!

Obviously some parts probably don't exist like the orange buffers but we can only wish right?

I bought those same stickers from the same seller and the colors were way off...red stickers are clearly pink (!) The seller agreed to send me new stickers, but my hopes are low since the seller argued that it was LEGO that was having problems with the stability of their red color...I'll post pics of my CN engine later, my custom stickers look quite good I believe.

After getting over the disappointment (And eating dinner) I decided to try a different approach.

About three hours of work in LDD resulted in a mod of 60052's locomotive, Stretched to 10219's length with the bogie's/truck's and gas tank of 10219. The upper structure was stretched and modified. Unfortunately I can't add a screenshot right now.

That was my idea... ah well, you know what they say about great minds... though that probably has nothing to do with me (grin). I'm waiting on parts and will be building it in real brick real soon.

I had a closer look at the parts needed for this set and I found that two types of pieces are especially difficult to get in certain colors. One is the 6x12 tile with studs on the edges. As already mentioned, this tile is not available in green. In addition, the 1x4x2 windows are not available in many colors and green is not among them. Interestingly, there are two sellers at bricklink that offer these windows for insane prices, although these windows have not been used in any set yet.

In conclusion, I decided not to build the green version of the Maersk train. Instead, I ordered some medium blue parts along with some other missing parts. I plan to stick closely to the original Maersk color scheme but I am going to exchange all Maersk blue parts with medium blue parts because colors are quite similar and I already have lots of medium blue parts.

I am going to post pictures as soon as I have built the train.

Medium azure might be another option for Maersk blue. The new Maersk Triple-E container ship set uses medium azure for the blue parts. I guess either LEGO doesn't want to produce the Maersk blue any more or the Maersk company changed their corporate shade of blue since 2011.

Here is my progress with the lime green/white version. I didn't think about medium azure I may look into that color as well.

If its helpful, you should be able to use six 1 x 2 x 2 windows without a problem. Also for the tile with studs around it covering the power functions, you might be able to get away with four 4 x 6 for cheaper. Or one 6 x 16. My problem now is finding flex tubing. Anyone know of a non-Lego substitute?

For the windows I used 6 1 x 2 x 2 in black, you may want to look what colors are availble in that part.

I've successfully used 14 gauge solid electrical wiring (the kind used for wiring a house). It is cheap and easy to get at your local hardware store. Black and white are common colors, red can be found. Other colors are much harder to get. The idea came to me when I saw that some Modders would insert a wire in a length of flex tubing so that it would keep a curved shape. I figured I'd save a step and use "tubing" that had the wire pre-inserted.

I think the green on the BN locos is too dark. Normal lego green is closer to BN's "Cascade Green" shade.

Love the SP and D&RGW models, though.

I finally managed to put the bricklinked parts together. Here is my medium blue version of the Maersk train.

I am pleased with the outcome but I think the original looks better indeed, mainly because of the stickers. The big grey side plates look a bit bland without the stickers.

Hi,

I was not entirely happy with the medium blue version of the Maersk train, thus I tried something new. I always liked the colours of the BNSF trains and tried a new variant using orange, dark green and yellow.

I started with the design of the Maersk train, built the sides of the loco with bricks instead of plates. Also, I had to redesign the back of the engine.

I am quite pleased with the outcome, although there are still some minor things that could be improved.

You can get an inventory part list from the item catalog on Bricklink. From there you can see if a part is in different colors and which BL store has them.

I just have registered on Bricklink and see how you call up an inventory list for the Maersk Train. Can you elbaorate on how you find from there who has the parts to fit the inventory?

This thread is absolutely fascinating. You guys are brilliant at all these different versions. Very inspiring i must say and look forward to add a Maersk train soon.

Well chaps I have finally started my Lego trains Journey.

Firstly apologies if this post is in the wrong place, just seemed relevant.

Just purchased and taken delivery of the New Lego Cargo Train and Train Station. I paused at getting the passenger train only because I just prefer American style Model railroading. May well get it anyway just so the kids are happy and as they are a big part of this venture thats important. What took me so long to settle on Lego was for many years now I always wanted to go the DCC model train route with a big N scale layout. Through much discussion and thinking it through with the family its just not possible. Space and cost wise it just did not add up. Straight off the bat I looked at the Digitrax Zypher starter controller. Best and most affordable DCC controller I could find at £156. Then N Scale train with decoder N Scale Kato SD70M £69 plus compatible decoder at roughly £30. Compare that to the Lego Cargo Train set I just got for £100 from ASDA direct (of all places). Says it all really doesnt it?

Bottom line Im going to go a lot further in Lego trains than the traditional model train route. Now that I see the amount of options available to produce American Locos and rolling stock. Seriously excited and hope to learn a lot from you chaps.

On the Bricklink search, select Catalog Item from the dropdown box and put in the set number. In the case of Maersk train, it is set number 10219.

It'll give you a list of parts. If you click on a part, it'll give you details of the part like colors, years it was made, lots for sale in various colors, pricing over time, etc.

Warning: Buying parts from Bricklink can get addictive. Use with caution.

Thank you for that. I did find my way around but thanks for clarifying the way to find the parts. I thought my only chance of getting a Maersk train was through ebay and i just could not bring myself to pay the money they are asking. I know i should have bought this set while it was still available. Seriously kick myslef for that one. Heres hoping Lego brings out another set as good as that one was.

I suspect it'll take a bit of patience and searching to get all the bits together for the complete Maersk train but I'm not particularly fussy on the paint scheme. I always wanted to go Norfolk Southern black scheme if I cant go the Maersk colours. Its the containers and their carriers that I really want to add to my rolling stock.
