Bricktrain Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 Great look on the mountain so far, and surprising how much you have managed to fit in the space you have. Awesome. Quote
marook Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Looks really great! The train fits, yeah, but it also looks very narrow I think.. but maybe it's an old tunnel were new trains just barely fits.. ;-) Love your mountain look and waterfalls! Quote
Chase The Cop Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Very nice display! It all looks fantastic but I especially like the waterfalls, lake and park - they make Hem(b)lock Falls a very unique Lego town Quote
slovakiasteph Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 I like your town! I think it's more than a few plates slapped together...you have alternate builds (or at least one) :), there's some height with the mountain and falls, and you've added more plates to help with depth and adding more creativity. Have enjoyed this thread. Quote
LAKAbricks Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 I am also quite impressed by the city of Hemlock Falls. Both the quick development - all in less than half a year, as well as the size. Even though it is mainly officials sets, you have used for the city so far, you have made the landscaping rather creatively. Several levels which you slowly build together. - I can wait to see further development, not least of your skills as a builder. Welcome back to the world of LEGO, Hemlock Falls Quote
Hemlock Falls Posted June 3, 2015 Author Posted June 3, 2015 (edited) Things have improved yet again at Hemlock Falls. IMG_0090 I got the pool hall from my fiancee for my birthday, I think it looks really nice in there. IMG_0110 I also picked up the new Changing Seasons house, which I thought, at first, was really tiny. It is, but I do like the colors of it, and I think it looks nice up there. IMG_0091 But the most inspiring addition to the falls is.... IMG_0086 That's right! Citizen Brick's gentlemen's club! Three of my friends chipped in and spent A LOT on this bad boy. But check it out, this thing is awesome... IMG_0077 The lights are far more obnoxious than I had assumed. It's like a grenade of exhilaration exploding on my desk. The excitement never ends at Hemlock Falls!!! IMG_0095 Edited July 30, 2015 by Hemlock Falls Quote
lightningtiger Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Looking even better 'Hemlock Falls', and an adult club eh ? (my son's friend's are working on their own, and they are only 14 and 15 years old LOL) Keep going and Brick On 'Hemlock Falls' ! Quote
greg3 Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Stunning looking layout!! I love how you've included such a wide range of areas/terrain. Looking forward to seeing more!! Quote
Hemlock Falls Posted July 25, 2015 Author Posted July 25, 2015 Back in June I had the laborious task of disassembling Hemlock Falls. Even my daughter was asking, "Dad, how are you going to move all of this?" IMG_0187 We moved from an apartment to a house. I tried to keep my Lego kits intact as much as I could, to make re-assembly easier. I filled 9 boxes with Legos, 2 with instructions, and 2 more with Lego boxes. IMG_0412 For the past month I've been thinking that I'd put the Falls in front of this window, but when I actually tried it the whole thing just looked awkward, and the background wasn't very flattering. IMG_0694 At first I considered just completely rebuilding the table, but before I got carried away with that idea I thought I should try it some other places. It was built for a corner in our old apartment, it should probably be in a corner, or completely rebuilt (which I don't really have time for now). So I found a good corner for it, in this room that I had previously dedicated to guitars, piano and art supplies. Who am I kidding, I never play guitar anymore? IMG_0698 It's a basement room with no windows, completely covered in this 80's looking panelling. I thought if I ever want to take photos of Hemlock Falls this would be a way nicer background than a basement wall with pipes, floor joists and wires showing all over. And I spent my childhood (5-15 yrs old) in the 80's. back then Legos and panelling went together like Destro and the Baroness. At least in my world it did. IMG_0712 I spend a while day just rearranging stuff to look as aesthetically pleasing as possible, still not there yet. There's also a fireplace on the opposite side of this room. That's really groovy. I didn't want to set the Falls up exactly like it was in our apartment, but it occurred to me that the prior layout didn't happen in one day. It'd be foolish to think that I could magically come up with some thorough, well designed layout today that would be better than the one that evolved over months. I got boxes of Legos that need to be emptied today, no time to be reinventing the wheel for no reason, especially when I know that I am going to make the table bigger before summer is over, and have to rearrange everything all over again anyways. IMG_0737 So, here's where it's at. The 1st thing I am going to do is to extend the table to the right until it reaches the wall, that gives me four more baseplates in length, and that the downtown part that I really need room to accommodate the modular buildings, traffic and the train turnaround. I will also extend the left leg of the table about 4 feet (about 4 3/4 baseplates), still being only 2 baseplates deep and covered in friends, elves and princesses. I have larger plans beyond these initial modifications, but that could be months away. I will certainly be constructing additions to this display. I welcome any feedback or advice on my progress so far and potential directions I could take with the development of this Lego display. Thanks Quote
timmyc1983 Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Wow, that's a great space you have now, I'm looking forward to your expansions/redesignings/etc. I love having a 'clean canvas' for a town like you've had, it just feels like the world (or in this case Hemlock Falls) is your oyster!! I will follow Hemlock Falls with much anticipation! Happy building Quote
Hemlock Falls Posted August 14, 2015 Author Posted August 14, 2015 IMG_1002 I've recently added a bricklinked CC to Hemlock Falls. The city is filling up, I need to make this table bigger, IMG_1036 I've just ordered 2 instructions for Brick City Depot's modular designs. I think they are well-crafted buildings with convincing architectural influence. And TLG just ins't putting out modulars fast enough. I'm not really crazy about the FB or TH, and I really don't see myself ever being interested in MS. Idk, there might be a place for FB in there. We'll see. But in the meantime, I've been trying to design MOC modulars on LDD, but it's time consuming and I've been pretty busy moving and stuff. So, I'm very excited to assemble some of Kristel's designs. And I kind of like the bricklinking process. I can order $100 worth of pieces if I can swing it, or I can do little $6 orders and still be making progress. The time it takes makes it more of a project for me to get into. IMG_1039 IMG_1037 Thank you for checking out my little world. Quote
knight_40k Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 Very cool. Love the detail on the waterfall and train pass through. Quote
scottwb2010 Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 Hi 'Hemlock Falls'. I can't believe I never noticed your posts of this WIP before your latest post on Friday. Ive now read over your development of Hemlock Falls from the beginning. Your story is like many, in that you came out of a long 'dark age' and were bitten by the Lego bug and became an AFOL by finding your love of the brick again! And like many who have come out of a 'dark age', you have had a vision to create your own layout, but unlike many, you have managed to do it. You have come a long way in such a short space of time, not only by creating a town, but then having to disassemble it to move house and re-build it. I envy you having a basement room and look forward to seeing you expand 'Hemlock Falls'. Its not just a Modular layout slapped full of official Lego releases, it has your stamp on it. And there is nothing wrong with starting with official releases, as these are a great way to discover building techniques that where not around before your dark age and I'm sure you will learn from these and other peoples instructions you buy and start populating your display with your MOC's. Anyway, keep up the good work and I look forward to updates. Quote
Hemlock Falls Posted August 16, 2015 Author Posted August 16, 2015 Anyway, keep up the good work and I look forward to updates. Thank you Scott, and everyone who has taken the time to check out my little display. I have a lot of other work to do from moving before I can really invest too much time into my display, but hopefully before long I'll be able to make further developments. Quote
Hemlock Falls Posted October 26, 2015 Author Posted October 26, 2015 (edited) IMG_1961 I have been very busy since the summer, between moving, getting married and a bunch of other stuff. But I have finally managed to finish the additions to my Lego table. IMG_1962 I've extended the right side (my downtown area) about 4 baseplates longer to the wall. Giving me more room for the modulars, once I figure out the best way to arrange them. Arranging them with the train tracks is becoming trickier. IMG_1954 IMG_1851 I have also extended the left side (my daughter's world) another 5 baseplates longer, and 1 plate deeper (making it possible for a train to turn around). I did cut a baseplate in half diagonally to fit in those two corners. IMG_1952 Eventually I'd love to make the train tracks go from my side all the way over to her side. Obviously I'll need more track, but I also have to figure out how the tracks should go. I think that some sort of figure 8 layout is the only way it will work, but I don't want the tracks to cross over water. Whatever, I'll save that problem for a time when I have enough track to do it. I also need to put the waterfall and jungle back together. Hopefully I have more room now to make those areas bigger. This photos pretty much shows the new additions clearly... IMG_1758 There's a lot to look forward to with this development, but I am happy that I've gotten one big step out of the way. I appreciate any interest, and I apologize if this isn't all that interesting. Edited October 26, 2015 by Hemlock Falls Quote
Hemlock Falls Posted February 22, 2017 Author Posted February 22, 2017 I haven't posted here in over a year. I just wanted to check in, I'm still AFOLing around. No huge developments. I just added the Haunted House to the set up this week. Since my last post here I've added the Ferris Wheel, Brick Bank and some smaller things, and still chipping away at this waterfall mountain. IMG_9521 I'm planning on expending the table again, so I can spread things out. I could either make it longer along the wall past the ferris wheel, or make a peninsula sort of extension where the round table is in the photo. I welcome any advice regarding future additions to the table itself. I took all of the little creator shops and added a middle part to allow the train to go through them, more for efficiency of space than for realism. IMG_9490 ..and I finally got around to replacing the billboard on the GE, it's not as good as I thought I would make, but it'll work for now. In the near future I'd like to finish the mountain and do something about the lighting situation in this room. Anyhow, thanks for your time. IMG_9517 better look at the waterfall IMG_9059 better look at friends neighborhood IMG_8680 and downtown, before I took all the speed champs out to make it less crowded. Quote
LegoSjaak Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 That horizon express made a lot of damage there... haha! Looks cool though!! Quote
NewTown Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 As you mentioned in another thread, you have the perfect layout for the new Fun at the Beach set and the new Jungle theme! I really like your modular buildings between your GE and BB. Thank you for sharing. Quote
Hemlock Falls Posted February 24, 2017 Author Posted February 24, 2017 Thanks, those two modulars are designs from brick city depot, there's 2 more next to the PC, and I'm still working on getting pieces for their Coveted Clutch building. Ive been wanting to design my own, but so far I haven't been able to. Quote

NewTown Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 I love your modulars Kristel. My town is full of 16 wide modulars too. Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 What a giant work move all those sets! Great final result! Quote

I am so sorry, Kristel, I thought BCD was your site. I think your modulars are absolutely fantastic, and I get more compliments on them than the official ones I got. I'm very sad to see that you're not selling the designs anymore (that's why I didn't use your name at first). Hopefully someday we will see more of your awesome ideas. Quote
