I have already tried BrickFicincy (and another program whose name I forgot) but it seemed useless for any large scale project? I was limited to a combination of 5 stores max. when using it last week, and unless I reduced my list of parts to less than 50 different items, it never returned me any solution? probably I did something wrong then... I have a bit of issue with the head so far, it's the most problematic, I can't get the angles right. It's a very challenging build anyway, and a VERY complicated moc to move around after that I plan to do the same and find some way to strenghten the legs and the inner structure when I'll be there... Now, I'm waiting for invoices to come in: I believe I'll be fine with a total of 9 orders on BL. BTW, Cavegod quickly replied to my email and send me an updated parts list. I had a quick look at it, but I plan to follow the original (older) instructions he sold me since I have already ordered the parts according to those. Unless somebody tells me the modified instructions include improved structural integrity? I don't plan to review those in details to find out the differences... I placed a total of 9 orders, 3 of them ranging from 160 to 850 parts, and 6 smaller ones ranging from 4 to 90 parts. total parts ordered: 1640 (plus 4460 I already had): Total cost for the parts ordered: 470$ CAN (0.29$ CAN per part) Total cost for shipping: 250$ CAN (53% of the price for the parts) Total cost: 720$ CAN (0.44$ CAN per part) (580 usd or 500 euros) The price per part sems pretty hign, but a high percentage of those were rare and expensive parts. If I estimate the cost to get the parts I already had (0.12 $CAN per part, plus 25% shipping, or 0.15$ CAN per part)...the grand total would be: Total cost for 6200 parts: 1000$ CAN Total shipping cost: 400$ CAN Total cost: 1400$ CAN (1100 usd or 1000 euros) Of course price could be MUCH lower using parts substitutions or if you live in Europe, since shipping to Canada is estimated at almost 30% of the total cost. I wanted it to be a bit sturdier as I seemed to handle this a lot just to get it on its legs before putting the top on. Quote

And my plan is to start with the head anyway, since it seems to be a nice display piece by itself, and it might take some time before the whole build is finished... Quote

I've read it, more than twice, it's there that I've found the part about dropping rubber to get the angles for the head, but I'm still struggling... got the legs not even in place because with the added weight with the inner structure re inforced, kinda fear that working on the head while the legs are in place will cause major disaster ^^ Quote

Scoonix Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Hi Vassal, Just built it a few months ago, it was a real pleasure (nightmare also sometimes :D). In my version of the LDD I had two "problems": 1/ The body was 1 stud too long (if I remember well. The correction took me a few minutes) 2/ Under the feet they are tires (not showing in LDD version I had). This avoid the foot from sleeping. In my case I've made a lot of modifications to the legs in order to make them more solid to support the weight of the monster :) I hope you will enjoy this building ... Just realised the 1 stud too long, because the body flank in the front part seemed too short...omg, thanks for pointing that out, I'll need to rebuild the whole thing (and since I've strenghten the interoir, this is going to be funny. About the weight, this is indeed a factor, I wanted to create an interior, but then, realised the weight could become a problem, and not experienced enough yet to think about better legs mods ti increase durability. but that's the great part of the moc, it is open to interpretations:) Quote

deanorth Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 about the armor, Cjd223, I've actually installed the sides parts before dropping the body on the legs, then, after I've made the body stronger, I've grabed the AT-AT by the upper side, raised it, ask a friend to correctly place the legs, and attached them. This is though where I've stopped because I couldn't get the head done, silly me:) from now on I've just kept the body, I'll rebuilt it later, since for me it's an iconic build this one. Quote

ecmo47 Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 (edited) Don't give up now! It can be done! I'm sure that you have read most of my tips in this thread and the one over on Brickset tagged above. The first thing that you have to do is re-enforce the frame so that the top bar does become a handle that will support all the weight. The part that made the most difference was adding 4x32555 to the frame. I think I've got a picture of that addition but I need to go find it.Once the frame is modified, you can actually swoosh it around. Once done, here is the order I assemble it in. 1. Break the legs into 2 sections above the knees. 2. Set the feet on on two 48x48 plates as shown in one of these threads. 3. Place the lower portion of the legs on the feet. 4. Attach head to neck. 5. Attach head/neck assemble to the frame. 6. Attach upper portion of legs to the "hips". The front legs will stick out the front and the back legs stick out the back. 7. Attach the two sides and adjust as needed. 8. Now comes the part where help is very useful. Lift up the ATAT by the handle which will now support all of the weight. Hold it over the legs. Have your helper attach the legs. Let the body settle into the legs and let go carefully. 9, Set the 3 roof plates on. 10. Ta-dah! Edited July 23, 2015 by ecmo47 Quote

The project was on hold for a while, but after purchasing the pdf version designed by member cjd223, I decided to move forward. I will post pics as soon as I get back home. With cjd223's instructions, building is as easy as building any official UCS lego model, once you have sorted the pieces, that is. Wow...this thing is huge! pics to come.
