Graydingo Posted July 5, 2015 Author Posted July 5, 2015 Hello good people of Lego Technic. Took a little break from the impala. When I came back I decided to fix the two main issues that had slowed me down: 1. The big tires wouldn't clear the fenders and 2. the roof was fugly. So now, she's a convertible! :-) I got rid of a lot of weight and now I can see my interior! I like how the interior turned out and just need to put a dash in and I'm done. Plus you get to see more of the door mechanisms. It's summer, The top's down and we're going to go cruz the Santa Cruz boardwalk. I swapped out the wheels to the smaller wheels as well. I still think they fit the scale and are probably more appropriate to the original car. no more DUBZ I also swapped out the front motor to help out on my massive new front bumper and hood weight. so now two L motors for the lower/raising of the car. It works like a dream with the new smaller tires. No clearance issues. I also swapped out a lower gear ratio to help push the added weight of the deck lid, the bonnet and the front end. I had to take some creative liberties with the hood, it's not very impala but it clears the higher lower/raising mechanism in the front. I've got some cosmetic and structural stuff on the front end, then it's the rear bumper and I think I'll wrap this one up. TC7...calls! What do you guys think? Quote
Coola1 Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Awesome, now all it needs is a video to show it in all it's glory! Quote

Graydingo Posted July 12, 2015 Author Posted July 12, 2015 Congrats! Good job. Is steering wheel active? Yes. Geared drive right off the servo motor. Also uses two XL motors for drive as well as two L motors for the "hydraulics" Quote
Block_Smarts Lego Technic Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 Love it! I give it 5 thumbs up!  Quote

Because of the low profile there was literally no where else to mount it but way back behind the rear axle, and because of the doors there wasn't a way to reinforce the weight. I had planned to replace with the rechargeable battery box -I think it's much lighter, but just didn't end up ordering it. Quote
Rockbrick Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 seeing the chrome bricks on the other thread makes me think this would be awesome with loadsa chrome Quote

Graydingo Posted November 17, 2015 Author Posted November 17, 2015 ^ha ha that's great. Yep. Originally I was going more for a street rod appearance, but it was fun doing the lowering stuff. I just blew the impala apart last night because I was going to build Jorgen's Alfa 4c. That was really tough, but ya gotta move on. Sorry there wont be instructions. I think maybe a few more MOC's and I'll have one that's worthy of making instructions for. BTW check out the torque on the lowering mech. Most of it was on these 5L stop axles. On the alfa 4c I got to page 21 and realized I'm missing a lot of parts like white flex axles. So...looks like I'll be starting a new MOC. Most likely an early Porsche 911. I just went through all my B sets and they are all race trucks which I have no interest in building lol. Quote
